As they originate from real-time information provided by the airline, they also guarantee the accuracy of the summarised information to corporations and their travellers. 4 CO 2 indicator With this enhancement, Amadeus satisfies corporations needs to calculate and compare their carbon emissions. Estimation of aircraft emissions and their allocation to individual passengers is a complex exercise. Existing calculators offer significantly different results. Amadeus chose to partner with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) since its calculator guarantees the neutrality, global reach and legitimacy needed to provide CO 2 estimations that customers can trust. ICAO uses transparent and publically available information for the various factors which contribute to the calculation of the emissions associated with the individual passenger s air travel. Each recommendation of the travel itinerary will now feature its associated carbon emission, within a summary at the top of the page for Air. For multi-leg recommendations, the total carbon emission is displayed as well. ICAO does not cover Rail, however pre-calculated CO 2 emissions data can be processed (for SNCF, Deutsche Bahn and Swedish Rail) when uploaded beforehand by customers and/or partners. 5 Figure 4: Fare driven availability page with CO 2 emissions Figure 5: Trip summary page with CO 2 emissions Benefits: Corporations will be able to measure and control their carbon emission, based on a neutral emission calculator. This further reinforces their position with regards to environmental considerations, which is an expectation both from their customers and their employees. TMCs will respond better to their clients needs and expectations as well as to national carbon regulations. In addition they have the possibility to upload the branded CO 2 data they may have calculated in their own reporting systems within Amadeus e-travel Management With the CO 2 indicator, travellers awareness to carbon footprint is heightened and they have the possibility to choose the best itinerary comparing Air and Rail within corporate policy.
