2 TheWAVE... multi-purpose at multi-levels. The Wave Work Assist Vehicle provides significant savings opportunities by increasing safety, increasing productivity and increasing flexibility. Crown customers in hundreds of different industries benefit from its productivity-enhancing features. Retail applications often purchase a Wave to improve the efficiency and safety of picking and restocking. Within days, workers quickly discover other invaluable uses, such as assisting customers with out-of-reach merchandise, taking inventory, changing signage or light bulbs, setting up displays and more.

3 Elevate health and safety to your advantage. TheWAVE Work AssistVehicle. Until Crown developed the Wave, workers struggled to manually carry boxes, equipment or tools from one place to another. Now the dangers associated with using ladders and workers climbing on boxes, racks and shelves can be avoided. The Wave is a revolutionary, mobile productivity tool that allows one person to safely and efficiently accomplish what normally takes two. Health and Safety organisations in the European Union and elsewhere are placing special emphasis on falls from height in a major campaign to address one of the highest risk activities in the workplace. Warnings, fines and severe penalties are making the message clear comprehensive risk assessments and good work practices must be implemented and strictly enforced. A checklist published by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work asks the following questions: Has the most suitable equipment been selected to ensure safety, including for means of access and evacuation? Are ladders only used when other equipment is not justified in view of short duration and low risk? Is a ladder the safest and best method for the job? Is the ladder in good condition and suitable for the type and height of work? Can the ladder be placed to avoid overreach? If any answer is NO, prevention action is needed before starting the work. Source: OSHA Factsheet 15 - Accident Prevention in Construction. (2001) What about back injuries? The most recent report* by the European Commission reveals that strains and sprains accounted for 26 percent of all injuries that resulted in four or more lost workdays, and 14.9 percent of those injured had not resumed their usual work activities. * Eurostat: European social statistics Accidents at work and work-related health problems, 2002 Edition What about falling objects? Can your workers safely carry items and maintain a safe handhold? Can they safely reach and retrieve bulky or heavy items? Does more than one worker climb the ladder because items are too difficult for one to manage? Do they try to handle too many items at once to reduce the number of trips up and down the ladder? Does broken/shattered/ spilled product present a health or safety hazard? Cut yourlabour costs inhalf. The Wave helps people work twice as fast, which improves productivity and cuts your operational costs. You can also cut your labour in half, because the Wave turns many two-person jobs into one-person jobs without compromising safety. Time Savings. The Wave saves time because it provides a quick, safe and efficient way to transport and lift materials that would otherwise be carried by hand. It also eliminates the time-consuming need to move ladders from one place to another. With the Wave, the worker, merchandise and materials can be at the required elevation ready for the task at hand before a worker on foot could even walk to the location. Operators can travel up to 6 km/h on the Wave, twice as fast as the average walking speed. Additional productivity enhancements result from the Wave s ability to travel and elevate simultaneously (travel speeds are slowed at heights for safety). The Wave offers other cost saving and time saving advantages as well. It requires no set-up and reduces the risks of carrying or dropping materials. This means lower damage costs and less clean-up time. The elevating load tray carries up to 90 kg while the lower deck handles another 115 kg. In addition, the Wave allows the average male to easily reach up to 5 metres. With the Wave you always have room to move. An equivalent rolling ladder can block up to 3 square metres of floor space, whether it s in use or not. In many cases the ladder must be dedicated to a single aisle because it is too long to turn a corner. And since ladders are always at full height, extra care is needed to ensure that overhead signs, lighting and structures will clear the top rail. At only 750 mm wide and 1525 mm long, the Wave can pass through pedestrian doorways, navigate narrow aisles and turn in its own length. It s also light enough for most elevators and mezzanines. Which would you rather have standing in your aisles? An equivalent ladder is twice as long and 3 times as tall as the Wave. The shortest distance between two points is with the compact, highly manoeuvrable Wave. A rolling ladder cannot execute the same tight turning radius. The Wave eliminates the possibility of stumbling or losing one s balance while ascending/descending a ladder. The operator stands firm on a cushioned platform with padded wrap-around safety rails while the product rides securely on the steel load tray. With its ability to transport a worker and load, as well as travel at elevated heights, the Wave greatly reduces lifting requirements for your workers and has the potential to significantly reduce your operational cost, as well as product damage. Labour Savings. Many lifting and maintenance tasks require two people to position materials at heights. The Wave offers a safer, more efficient method, which eliminates climbing and reduces heavy and awkward lifting while providing stable footing. This reduces the risk of injury or product damage and allows one person to accomplish what normally takes two.

4 Working with confidence through intelligent control. 5 8 Hand sensors ensure the operator has both hands on the controls before the Wave will operate. A hand sensor override feature enables the operator to use one hand to steady a load on the tray if necessary. In this mode, travel function is reduced to creep speed. The suspended floorboard includes foot sensors to ensure stable operator positioning. The Wave will stop travel and lift/lower functions if either foot is removed from the pedals. A low step height and notrip entry ensures easy, safe access. The Wave s intelligent control system keeps the operator working through the task, securely Rail-guided applications for the Wave offer a number of timeand cost-saving advantages. Working in aisles as narrow as 900 mm, the Wave makes more efficient use of space and enhances productivity by allowing workers to travel and reach various heights in one fluid motion. Distribution Automobile Parts Plumbing and Electrical Pharmaceuticals Publishing Government Services Manufacturing Fabricated Metal Products Rubber and Plastics Commercial Printing Textiles Furniture and Fixtures Manufacturing environments offer unlimited opportunities for the Wave. Its uses include transporting, delivering parts to the line, putting away or retrieving products for assembly and assisting with a variety of light-duty manu - facturing and maintenance tasks. Narrow enough to travel through doorways and light enough for most elevators, the Wave makes an ideal service tool for offices, hotels, hospitals and other commercial applications. It can be used for a variety of housekeeping and maintenance tasks and confidently. The moment the operator turns the key a diagnostic test verifies that all operating systems and safety interlocks are in proper working order. The system controller continuously monitors all command and control circuits to ensure safe, dependable performance. The built-in safety system knows where the operator is during every function, whether travelling, braking, raising the platform or working at elevation. It can even detect if a bystander has stepped under 6Gates must be closed to travel or raise when the platform is above 510 mm. With the platform lowered, travelling at full speed (6 km/h) requires the gates to be open to allow unobstructed exit in the event of an emergency. 9A key switch prevents unauthorised use. In addition, a unique start up sequence can be programmed to prevent operation by untrained personnel. Time-out (auto shutdown) can be programmed to prevent inadvertent availability of machine to unauthorised users. Retail the raised platform. Department Stores Grocery Stores Furniture Stores Hardware Stores Catalogue Fulfilment 1 2 Raise & lower controls are positioned to allow simultaneous operation while travelling. A fully enclosed steel mast guards all moving parts. Safety is ensured with redundant chain slack sensors and hose burst valve to stop the platform in the event of an emergency A rabbit/turtle switch allows the operator to quickly set speed and performance profiles to suit conditions. Integral diagnostic display and battery discharge indicator provides visual and audible messages concerning vehicle function and battery condition. When recharging is needed, the Wave simply plugs into any standard 240-volt power outlet and the intelligent on-board charger does the rest. Maintenance free batteries are standard. 3Speed sensitive steering matches the turning radius to vehicle speed. Travel speeds are reduced when the gates are closed or when the platform is elevated above 510 mm.
