CHAIN OF CUSTODY GUIDE The Mark of Responsible Forestry Sept. 2015

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE Lewis is committed to Environmental Leadership. We believe in meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. Lewis does business with suppliers which adhere to responsible forest practices and are certified by independent third party organizations. Our eco-friendly portfolio provides quality choices for all environmental printing requirements. We are committed to implementing and maintaining our chain of custody control systems S. Wolf Road, Suite 100, Wheeling, IL T F

LEWIS AND SUSTAINABILITY Independent third party companies like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC ) and the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI ) ensure that paper products with their seal affixed, are protecting the long-term health of our natural resources. In order for Lewis to sell FSC and SFI certified products, we need to be certified ourselves. This is called CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY certification. The chain goes as follows: Forest> pulp> mill> merchant> printer The customer can only be guaranteed he receives certified paper if the chain is not broken. If we are not certified we can not sell the product as such, even if the carton says it is FSC of SFI certified. For our customers to claim they used certified products, they need to produce invoices from the merchant displaying the proper FSC and SFi claim. If Lewis is not certified, the customer will go elsewhere, as our competition is all certified. There are 3 FSC categories: 1. FSC 100%: virgin material originating from entirely FSC certified forests and not mixed with any other material. 2. FSC mix: virgin material originating from forest sources only some which are FSC certified and/or from recycled sources. 3. FSC recycled: material based on supporting responsible use of forest resources and use of only post consumer fiber.

Certification Procedures Purchasing Purchase Orders are generated by the General Manager, Assistant General Manager or Customer Service Representative. Each product has its own Lewis sku. The description flags the product as either FSC or SFI certified. This information carries over to the purchase order. FSC status of the supplier is verified through SFI certificates are on file. Verifying certified status of material purchased is done by checking mill acknowledgement against the purchase order. Receiving Warehouse personnel confirm that the bill of lading matches the purchase order. All receiving documents go to accounts payable where they are matched with the vendor invoice. All FSC and SFI information needs to match. Material Handling 1. Warehouse personnel put stock away; each sku has its own bin location. Products are not mixed. If an item is recently certified, older stock gets sold first and is identified by a not certified label. 2. Cutting is done by qualified warehouse personnel. FSC and SFI folio product cut to size is indicated on the sales order with a memo line. The cut product is appropriately labeled as FSC or SFI certified on the rewrapped material. 3. Warehouse personnel pull orders from computer generated pick tickets. Each certified item is identified individually. Out-put Documents Purchase Orders, Sales Orders and Invoices are all generated by the FACTS computer system. Certified material is identified by line item. Bill of Ladings are manually generated and the certification claims need to be copied from the pick ticket or invoice. Customer Returns A return authorization form detailing reason for return, stock information and customer signature is used. Credit is issued using the original invoice for pricing and certification information. Non-Conforming Products In case non-conforming products are detected after they have been delivered, Lewis shall: a) immediately cease to sell any non-conforming products held in stock; b) identify all relevant customers, and advise those customers in writing within three (3) business days of the non-conforming product and maintain records of that advice; c) analyze causes for occurrence of non-conforming products and implement measures to prevent its reoccurrence. d) notify their certification body;

e) cooperate with the certification body in order to allow the certification body to confirm that appropriate action is taken to correct this non-compliance. Customer Service Inside and outside sales representatives are able to access FSC and SFI information for each product using the Z field on the preference tab in our FACTS computer system. The Certification Item Report shows all certified items. Warehouse personnel need to notify CSR s to take off the certification memo line on the invoice if old not certified stock is used to fill the order.

Environmental Leadership Lewis offers a full portfolio of certified and environmentally sound printing and business papers. These papers are produced in a manner which minimizes the negative impact on the environment, therefore creating a positive benefit for ourselves and future generations. These papers are certified and audited by third party organizations. Think Green symbols used in our catalog are as follows: Forest Stewardship Council An international non-profit organization devoted to promoting responsible management of the world s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible way. FSC certification has strong recognition throughout the world. Sustainable Forestry Initiative SFI, Inc. is a fully independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. Their forest certification standard is based on principles that promote sustainable forest management, including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk, and forests with exceptional conservation value. The standard is used widely across North America, and has strong acceptance in the global marketplace. Recycled Content Paper made with varying percentages of recycled paper. Recycled content can range from 10% to 100% post consumer waste. EPA guidelines require a minimum of 30% post consumer content for uncoated papers, and a minimum of 10% post consumer content for coated papers. Using a higher percentage of post consumer waste has many environmental benefits and helps reduce the amount of material in landfill sites. Green Seal Certification mark of the Green Seal organization specifying that the paper: 1. Contains at least 30% post consumer recycled fiber or 2. Is manufactured without chlorine or chlorine compounds. Processed Chlorine Free Certification mark of the Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA) identifying that no chlorine or chlorine compounds were used in the paper making process and that the product contains a minimum of 30% post consumer fiber. Dioxin and other toxins and pollutants created by chlorine and its derivatives have been associated with adverse affects on the immune and reproductive systems of humans as well of those of fish and wildlife species. Biogas Biogas is a renewable source of energy produced by the decompostion of waste in landfills. Once collected, it can generate steam usable in the manufacturing of paper, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Green-E Certification used by the Center for Resource Solutions identifying products made with renewable energy including, but not limited to, wind power, solar power, geothermal, low-impact hydropower, and biomass. c Carbon Neutral Offsetting or compensating for greenhouse gas emissions generated by a product s manufacturing process.
