Press release Stable at a high level: volume of goods handled in 2013 reaches almost 30m t bayernhafen Gruppe invests in its locations Regensburg, 13 February In 2013, the bayernhafen Gruppe continued to pursue its approach of offering companies the best possible location facilities at all six bayernhafen locations in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau. As a location architect it invested in the trimodal infrastructure, optimised its real estate portfolio and thus put in place the foundations for further growth of its customers. Across all six locations, in 2013 the bayernhafen Gruppe maintained its high volumes of goods handled by ship, rail and truck: following 29.6 million tonnes in 2012, the figure in 2013 was over million tonnes, an increase of around 1.3%. In terms of goods handled by ship, the bayernhafen Gruppe managed to shift 3.6 million tonnes and was therefore almost at the same level as the previous year. 6.1 million tonnes of goods were handled by rail (previous year's figure: 6.7 million), a decline of around 9.4%. There was also a slight fall in container volumes, with the intermodal sector handling a total of 396,415 TEUs (standard units) in 2013, 5.9% less than in Joachim Zimmermann, Chief Executive of the bayernhafen Gruppe, says: "We think entrepreneurially and we act entrepreneurially. When it comes to the development of logistics locations, the preparation of areas for business development and the expansion of infrastructure, we act quickly, with our own financial resources and without placing any strain on the national budget. We invest more than 10 million euros every year and by doing so we safeguard the long-term success of our locations and the companies that are based there. As a site architect, we develop viable economic areas, spanning different companies and locations. The basic requirement for this is to have reliable links between all three modes of transport - inland barges, trains and trucks." Page 1 of 9

Investments in locations with a viable future In 2013, the bayernhafen Gruppe invested a total sum of around 11 million euros - in particular in the area of real estate in order to prepare areas for business development and in its trimodal infrastructure. At bayernhafen Aschaffenburg a junction was expanded to create a roundabout - as the authority in charge, bayernhafen is responsible here for constructing, maintaining and operating the roads in the area of the port which are provided for public use. bayernhafen provided around 650,000 euros of its own money to fund this - the new roundabout therefore did not cost the public purse a single cent. The roundabout helps to improve the transport infrastructure at bayernhafen Aschaffenburg and make the site able to accommodate further businesses that wish to set themselves up there. The development of areas of land for conversion is currently being prepared - a total of almost 19 hectares of new land will be available for companies to set themselves up on. For 2014, the bayernhafen Gruppe is planning to make a total investment of around 15 million euros at its various sites. One significant project in 2014 will be the redevelopment and reorganisation of areas of land at the south quay in the West Port at bayernhafen Regensburg, also with a view to the planned expansion of the container terminal. "Laying the ground for the future with strategic land management" Successful locations attract successful companies. Since 2009, it has been possible to newly market around 600,000 m 2 for new business development and operational expansions at the six sites. "The availability of land for development is the most important thing for us," says Joachim Zimmermann, "we offer current and future settlers the real estate they want in the right location, the right size and at the right time. In order to guarantee this, we are in the truest sense of the word laying the ground for the future with strategic land management." Land management at bayernhafen includes the marketing of some space for the first time as well as realigning and converting existing space. The company makes use of its many years of expertise as well as predictive planning, good judgement and flexibility. The aim is to be able to respond promptly to changes in the economy and meet the requirements of the market regardless of whether it is the size of the areas required, their layout or transport links that matter. The same principle applies to each of the six sites: "A port needs to be able to breathe." In 2013, the bayernhafen Gruppe reinforced its commitment to bayernhafen Passau in order to promote the development of the site and invested in a new multifunctional storage depot. The depot is also suitable for storing bulk materials which are sensitive to moisture. It is currently used for storing road salt, which predominantly arrives by inland barge. At bayernhafen Bamberg, the family company Herbst Transporte und Logistik will by the spring of 2014 have finished constructing a new Page 2 of 9

steel logistics centre with 10,000 m 2 of useful floor space and a high-bay storage system. The new logistics depot with seven crane tracks will be utilised by the company Köstner Stahllogistik. In 2013, BayWa Agrar opened its biggest grain procurement and transshipment facility at bayernhafen Regensburg. The company made a commitment to the location of the future and invested around 14 million euros in the expansion of the facility, which has been sited at the port since the 1960s, to transform it into an extremely efficient hub for transporting grain from Bavaria to the whole world also saw the commissioning of the plant belonging to TraSt Logistics GmbH - this young company provides handling and storage primarily of bulk materials. At bayernhafen Nürnberg, in 2013 a new logistics centre was constructed for Kühne + Nagel Nürnberg: the total area of 30,000 m 2 comprises roughly 25,000 m 2 for handling and storage and 5,000 m 2 of office space; it began operating in mid-january Schenker Deutschland AG also combined the various logistics skills of the Nuremberg branch offices for national land transport, international land transport and air/sea freight in a state-of-the-art logistics centre at bayernhafen Nürnberg. The new facility began operating at the end of Inland shipping almost at level of previous year and this in spite of the adverse conditions with the once-in-a-century flooding that occurred in June and the massive impact on shipping caused by the strikes by lockkeepers on the Danube during the summer. Up until the end of April 2013, the volume of goods handled by ship by the bayernhafen Gruppe was +20.8% above the same period for the previous year. Over 2013 as a whole, inland barges managed to handle million tonnes of goods, just 45,880 tonnes or 1.25% less than in the previous year. 28% of goods moved by ship were agricultural and forestry products as well as other foodstuffs and animal feed the drop of around 146,000 tonnes compared to 2012 can be explained partly by the weather, which resulted in a poor yield of corn crop. 23% of the goods transported were rocks and earth, an increase of around +16% compared to the previous year. Crude oil, mineral oil products and gases come 3rd in the list of classes of goods handled with a figure of 15%, which is also a significant increase of +35% compared to (See graph "Goods handled by ship by classes of goods" on page 8) Gateway to the world for the German plant engineering industry Once again in 2013, companies used the bayernhafen sites for importing and exporting high-value plant modules, machinery and transformers. Across the Group, bayernhafen handled around 34,000 tonnes of heavy cargo, which is almost the same level as in the previous year. One example were the 30 twelve-metre-high fermentation tanks, each weighing around ten tonnes, which Ziemann International manufactured in Bürgstadt am Main for Passau's Hacklberg Brewery. From here the 30 tanks were transported by ship along the Main, the Main-Danube Canal and the Page 3 of 9

Danube to bayernhafen Passau. There bayernhafen's heavy cargo experts "took hold" of the tanks, lifted them from the barge onto land using the port's mobile crane, and they were then transported on to the Hacklberg Brewery on special trucks. Driving force of river cruising at the bayernhafen sites of Bamberg and Regensburg, in future also in Nuremberg In 2013, 553 cruise ships docked at the port in Bamberg, a slight fall compared to 2012: the flooding in June and the strikes by lock-keepers on the River Danube which followed meant that there were over 50 cancellations at bayernhafen Bamberg alone. In Regensburg, where the docking facility for river cruisers is operated in cooperation with the city council, a total of 788 cruise ships docked in 2013, compared to 770 in Within the framework of a management agreement for Nuremberg City Council, there are plans for the bayernhafen Gruppe to operate the landing facility for cruise ships there too. This will produce further synergies from the three bayernhafen locations which will then have an interest in river cruising. As a result of the bookings which are already in place, the bayernhafen Gruppe expects to see continuing growth in 2014 as well. "Intermodal transport offers economic and ecological benefits" Unaccompanied intermodal transport at the bayernhafen locations of Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg and Regensburg fell compared to 2012 by 5.9%: from 421,214 TEU (standard units) in 2012 to 396,415 TEU in The primary reasons for this are the ongoing weakness in the economy in parts of Europe and the restructuring of production processes by an intermodal transport operator at bayernhafen Nürnberg. At bayernhafen Regensburg, over 100,000 TEU were handled by the terminal operator CDN GmbH for the first time. The location has regular rail links with Germany's North Sea ports, and inland barges are also used for relocating empty containers. Plans to expand the container terminal are ongoing: the intention is to increase capacity by around 60%, trimodally, with direct links to the terminal facility from the water. This project could be completed by as early as For Passau as a site, the bayernhafen Gruppe carried out an analysis of market potential: "The aim is to incorporate bayernhafen Passau as an intermodal location into the Group's intermodal network in a permanent way in order to exploit the local potential," says Alexander Ochs, authorised representative and the person responsible for intermodal transport at the bayernhafen Gruppe, "we are doing everything we can to persuade shipping agents from commerce and industry to get involved. Intermodal transport offers economic and ecological benefits when it comes to the intelligent shifting of transport from roads to railways and waterways, there is still plenty of room for improvement in the future." 5 New container service from Aschaffenburg to ZARA via Mainz Arranged in 2013 and launched in January the bayernhafen Gruppe is expanding its network and connecting the container terminal at bayernhafen Aschaffenburg via Mainz to the ZARA ports on the North Sea (Zeebrugge, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp). Since 3 February 2014, the new "ContainerConnect" inland waterway service has been connecting the container terminals of Aschaffenburg and Mainz on a weekly cycle. There are plans to increase the frequency to two trips a week in the near future. The cooperation partners for this are TCA - Trimodales Containerterminal Aschaffenburg GmbH, Frankenbach Container Service GmbH and IGS Intermodal Container Logistics GmbH. The areas of trucking and empty container management are also benefiting from this cooperation. This arrangement improves the service provided to companies in the Rhine-Main region. Industrial and commercial companies benefit from the joint capability of the cooperation partners: the ship and rail connections of the Frankenbach Group from Mainz to the ZARA ports and of IGS from Aschaffenburg to the German seaports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg. Rolling Road with a pair of trains over the Brenner Pass The Rolling Road across the Alps from bayernhafen Regensburg to Trento in northern Italy was on the verge of closing at the end of Thanks to teamwork involving bayernhafen, the terminal operator in Trento, Interbrennero, Trenitalia, Trasposervizi and the private German railway transport company, Lokomotion, it then proved possible in December 2012 to secure the future of the Rolling Road. In 2013, a total of 12,553 trucks were transported over the Brenner Pass by rail. bayernhafen Aschaffenburg welcomes over 20,000 visitors to its port festival "Offering to engage in dialogue brings people closer to the business and creates a level of acceptance for the port as a commercial site," says Joachim Zimmermann, "and this is why in 2013 we once again continued to pursue our dialogue activities." For example, on 15 September 2013 bayernhafen invited people to come to a port festival at bayernhafen Aschaffenburg. Under the motto "Experience the port firsthand", the whole of Aschaffenburg was out and about. Over 20,000 people, young and old, cyclists and pedestrians, lots of families with children, wanted to see what makes bayernhafen Aschaffenburg so special. "Logistics is exciting - and of vital importance." The bayernhafen Gruppe also increased the level of acceptance of logistics with the "Limitless" competition for students from all Bavarian universities and colleges, which has now been held four times. "With the subsidy prize for logistics which is awarded each year, we are aiming to build a bridge between science and practical use," said Joachim Zimmermann, "we bring together teaching and employment and offer students a practical platform for unusual ideas. At the same time, we emphasise the Page 5 of 9

importance of inland ports and a networked infrastructure in a lasting way logistics is an exciting area to work in which deserves to have the best brains." In addition, the bayernhafen Gruppe, together with the Federal Association of Public Inland Ports, supported the "water and shipping school" project for children in the 3rd and 4th classes at primary school. This was expanded in 2013 by the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration South to include the topics of inland ports and logistics. "The division of labour is the source of our wealth, logistics is the consequence of this," says Joachim Zimmermann, who is also a member of the steering committee of the Federal Association of Public Inland Ports, "the transport of goods therefore has a key role to play in a globalised world. Logistics is exciting - and of vital importance. What logistics is capable of and the contribution it makes to people's lives is one of the things that children should learn in primary school."
