Course Overview This course is an analysis of logistics activities, distribution network alternatives, and customer service aspects; examination of freight traffic functions within the firm s logistics system, analysis of rate and classification systems and carrier selection; evaluation of logistics procedures and strategies and their appropriateness to different industries. 2 Course Objectives: 1. Accurately define the terms supply chain, logistics, and transportation. 2. Understand the components of the supply chain including, but not necessarily limited to, procurement, customer service, warehousing, inventory management, transportation, order processing, site selection, reverse logistics, and logistics service providers. 3. Our working definition of supply chain management will be all activities associated with the flow and transformation of goods from the raw material stage to the end user, as well as the associated information flows. Grading and Evaluation Criteria Over the semester, you will have a variety of opportunities to earn points towards your final (overall) letter grade in this course. Any inability to receive e mail in a timely fashion will be the responsibility of the student. Attendance Students are expected to attend class and participate in the discussions. Note that Turnitin will be used extensively on submitted work, especially research and associated writing. Strong evidence of plagiarism will result in a zero on the submitted assignment with a potential opportunity to resubmit in a corrected form for partial credit. Participation: Student participation is expected and will be considered when final grades are calculated. Extra Credit: There will be no special assignments given to any student to improve his/her grade in the course.
