ABOUT US Meth Engineering & Consulting is a company active in the manufacturing sector. Our headquarter is in Arezzo (IT), and a local unit is in Naples (IT). We have operating groups in Italy and USA. Our story began in 2000, in Milan, when the company was founded. We started proposing us as a partner for the manufacturing industry putting in place all the experience and expertise of founders. The first customers were large companies in the engineering sector, for which we have carried out activities aimed at the design and installation of industrial processes, manufacturing forging and machining. Particularly significant our decades of experience in aeronautical sector where we offered engineering and quality service to the main Companies worldwide. At the same time we put our experience and organizational capacity to serve our clients taking care of companies in various sectors and sizes, from small manufacturing and service businesses to large multinationals. In 2012 the local unit was opened in Naples, to better follow the cluster's southern sector; in the 2014 the new local unit was opened in Francavilla Fontana (BR) to deal with production with additive manufacturing (3D printing) toward Aviaton Space Defense fields and general manufacturing. For this new activity a new company with a new brand METHALAB has been created.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING Methalab 3D Printer is a Stratasys Fortus 450mc machine, that use advanced technology to produce accurate prototypes from CAD drawing. Applied Technology is a «Fused Deposition Modeling» (FDM). Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM) allow to create finished parts directly from a CAD file. Fortus 450mc main characteristics: 1. Maximum construction area: 406*356*406 mm. (16*14*16 inches) 2. Standard Material (ABS M30;ABS M30i;ASA;ABS ESD7) 3. High Performance Material (ULTEM 9085; ULTEM 1010 starting 2015) 4. Engineering Material (Polycarbonate, PC ISO; Nylon 12) 5. Washing Tube: dimension 500*375*450 mm. 90lt.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE Aerospace is the industry sector where AM technology may have a great and final development. Aerospace has a long history of being an early adopter, innovator and investigator ( examples: carbon fiber; integration of CAD/CAM into design process) Aerospace is incorporating AM technology throughout all processes and functions: from the design concept to near end of life repairs. Aerospace continues to investigate new applications and invest in research to make them possible.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE How is AM technology being used in the aerospace industry today: 1. Prototype (i.e. produced the first 3Dprinted unmanned aerial system UAV) 2. Test (i.e. Flame retardant vents & housing, camera mounts for MARS) 3. Tooling/Assembly Jigs/fixtures design and fabrication i The final frontier is production, making finished goods with AM. Started with some secondary structure parts ( air grates, panel covers, interior parts ) Advantages in terms of cost and time saving are very significant.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE QUALIFICATION & CERTIFICATION MAJOR CONCERNS FOR AERONAUTICS. The major barriers that need to be overcome are concentrated inthe Qualification & Certification processes

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE QUALIFICATION & CERTIFICATION Qualification & Certification of AM technology starting materials and end products. GOAL Affordable, rapid and well documented parts/products certification/qualification (FPQ/PPV/PTTP/FAI). Qualification for material feedstocks: supply management, quality & storage. Affordable, rapid and well documented AM process certification/qualification (i.e. software, resources, materials, machine, documentations)

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE QUALIFICATION & CERTIFICATION STANDARDIZATION Standardization is important to facilitate quicker and more costeffectiveness certification of all materials, processes, products (procedures & specifications) KEY ASPECTS P di ti d l Predictive models Standardized testing Development of performance metrics Measurement method

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE QUALIFICATION & CERTIFICATION METH/METHALAB INTERNAL PROCEDURE An internal «AM Process Management» procedure delivered. Points considered d : Equipmentacceptance method during receiving ( Acceptance Plan/Report; Delivery Documentations, compliance with installation criteria, maintenance plan, etc.) Personnel Training & Recognition ( CAD, AM technology knowledge) Material Management ( Certificate of Conformance, test report, supplier recognitation, etc.) Software Management ( SW certification; Machine Control sw fully indipendentfrom CAD/CAM sw)

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IN AEROSPACE & DEFENCE QUALIFICATION & CERTIFICATION METH/METHALAB INTERNAL PROCEDURE PENDING CUSTOMERS/AUTHORITY CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATION METHOD STABILIZATION, APPLICATION OF INTERNAL PROCEDURE AND TESTING/INSPECTION THE FINAL PRODUCTS ARE THE CURRENT METHOD OF QUALITY ASSURANCE AND VERIFICATION USED, ALSO IF ADDITIONAL TIMEAND RESOURCES ARE REQUIRED.
