The logistics interface in the Port of Hamburg HHLA LOGISTICS BRIEF PROFILE HAMBURGER HAFEN UND LOGISTIK AG The megatrend towards containerization persists and continues to transform general cargo handling and transport. As part of HHLA, the largest cargohandling company in the Port of Hamburg, HHLA Logistics is abreast of the latest developments. The group applies its extensive expertise to developing economical and sustainable logistics solutions for the import and export business. What type of cargo can best be handled by which terminal? How should the goods be delivered or packed? Fully integrated and supremely well-informed, HHLA Logistics forms the port s logistics interface. Offering the best possible conditions for long-term, strategic partnership, it takes over planning and direction of all logistics activities for its customers. Its core expertise lies in project and contract logistics. Direct delivery of online orders is just as feasible as demanding pre-shipment handling of heavy cargo. Our sites in the Port of Hamburg have trimodal links and offer short distances to all the terminals.

The Port of Hamburg is one of the world s leading logistics hubs. More than 10,000 ships call here every year, and 950 seaports can be reached directly from the Port of Hamburg by liner services

Barge trains are an extremely environmentally friendly means of transport Well trained logistics experts for every task Superbly located in the Port of Hamburg The Port of Hamburg is one of the world s leading logistics hubs. More than 10,000 ships call annually, and 950 seaports can be reached directly from this port by liner services. Hamburg is renowned for its focus on container and East Asia trades, yet as a genuine universal port, it offers the right terminal with the appropriate handling equipment for cargoes of all types. The Port of Hamburg s central hub function enables it to serve more than 150 million consumers. As the last mainliner port before the Baltic, it represents the ideal point of dispatch for distribution to Eastern and Central Europe, the Baltic, and Scandinavia. Trimodal combination of transport Although around 97 percent of world trade volume is transported by vessel, oceangoing ships as a means of transport cause only three percent of global CO 2 emissions. On long-distance transport by land, rail emerges especially well, and the Port of Hamburg manages to handle 70 percent of its traffi c by rail. Almost one in every three German rail containers moves through Hamburg. For longer transport routes, with its combination of oceangoing ships and pre- and post-voyage runs by rail, Hamburg is particularly effi cient ecologically. With their combination of trimodal links and extensive warehousing capacity, HHLA Logistics facilities lend themselves extremely well to the consolidation of goods in large quantities. Along with various partners, the company organizes intermodal services that, where required, also incorporate environ mentally friendly inland waterway craft. Hamburg as logistics metropolis In Hamburg, as a logistics metropolis, highly specialized forwarders, liner shipping companies or other service providers make extremely competitive quotes for virtually any complementary service. HHLA Logistics has been a reliable partner in this network for years now and undertakes logistics control throughout the port for overlapping services. In addition, extensive logistics areas and a large pool of well-trained experts are both available in Hamburg as a base. They are accustomed to react fl exibly here to seasonal fl uctuations in volumes, as well as cushion peak periods in trading. This saves costs and guarantees quality. HHLA Logistics harnesses these ideal prerequisites for the good of its customers.

Handling heavy and project cargoes Project logistics and Breakbulk handling Machinery and equipment from Europe are in demand throughout the world, frequently being shipped via Hamburg. Yet the heavy and oversize cargoes seldom fi t into standard steel boxes. HHLA Logistics develops individual approaches to meet each requirement. That begins with consolidation of part-consignments, roofed and at a specifi c temperature, if required. Beforehand goods processing of every kind, assembly, as well as timed delivery for conventional shipment can be organized in advance. Prior to shipment, HHLA Logistics then plans assembly of the project cargo that optimizes resources and costs, as well as seeing to seaworthy packaging that meets all the requested standards. Breakbulk can be shipped via O Swaldkai, a multipurpose terminal with mobile cranes, container gantry cranes, and RoRo ramps. Haulage within the port can also be arranged to every other departure terminal by any desired mode of transport. For special challenges, HHLA fl oating cranes with maximum lifting capacities of 100 or 200 tons are available.

Modern high-rack warehouse with all-round service Contract logistics and warehousing Hamburg is a hub for imported goods. Around 2,500,000 standard containers are exchanged every year with China alone. HHLA Logistics receives them at the port with minimum delay a considerable advantage for goods requiring a quick turnaround. The sheds at the Übersee-Zentrum contain state-of-the-art, high-rack systems and alongside these, intermediate fl oors offer space, temperature-controlled where required, for value added services. Over and above traditional pick & pack, value added services of all kinds are provided. These can include delivery of products that have been ordered from the manufacturer s webshop. These are scanned, expertly packed, labeled, and tagged, with delivery notes added. The range of services here extends from running bonded warehouses to fi xing up the fi nal step in the chain. Notifi cation of dispatch is transmitted automatically to the consignee, with dispatch data being sent to the customer simultaneously. All these system-controlled processes run through a warehouse management system. This fosters productivity and ensures process quality.
