2 Course Description This course provides students with a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills needed to assist in the international logistics function in a global enterprise. Since the costs associated with the movement of goods in an international trade transaction can be as high as 30% of the final landed cost, effective logistics management is a critically important element in the profitability of any business operating internationally. The course looks at the roles and responsibilities of the various players in the global logistics field and thoroughly examines Incoterms? 2010 and their significance to decisions concerning the movement of goods across national borders. A detailed analysis of the key modes of transportation, routing alternatives, packing options, and insurance implications provide students with the tools required to identify and evaluate the most optimum means of transporting products internationally. Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to write the first level examination in the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) certificate program. CIFFA charges an administrative fee to candidates who sit for their examination. Program Outcomes Successful completion of this and other courses in the program culminates in the achievement of the Vocational Learning Outcomes (program outcomes) set by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in the Program Standard.
