3 Project Owner: Calumet Montana Refining Owner s Engineer: CH2M HILL CMR Goal: Expand the refinery production capacity Challenges: Cost is critical. Refinery expansion must be achieved within defined cost parameters to be economically viable Schedule is important. Revenue must be generated to pay for capital cost of expansion 3

4 Opportunity Identified and Pursued with Support of CH2M HILL New equipment manufactured for cancelled project is in USA is available for purchase. Opportunity? Requirements: 1. Plant configuration must accept pre-designed equipment 2. Equipment must be able to be modified for use at CMR plant. Requires modifications to adjust capacity 3. Installed cost must be right 4. Need to be willing and able to accept equipment As Is Where Is 4

5 Largest Unit Purchased by CMR: Hydrocracker unit Asia Manufacture, Current Location in Western USA Total weight ~1000 tons 3 pieces ~300+ tons Limited information regarding shipping pieces weight and dimensions. Accuracy not certain Manufacturer warranty available however could be voided if alterations made to unit DECISION: Purchase the unit and find a solution to transport 3 subassemblies without modifications to CMR plant, assemble on site, install. 5

6 Problem Solved: Hydrocracker purchased New Problem: Hydrocracker is in Wilma, WA CMR and CH2M HILL determined to source transport to move the subassemblies from Wilma to Great Falls, Montana Possibility of transporting 3 pieces by road to site: Very low Possibility of transporting 3 pieces by rail to site: Very very low Possibility of transporting 3 pieces by combination of road and rail to site: Solution: 6 Best Opportunity for Success Combine resources of 2 very qualified transporters with heavy transport expertise in road and rail in joint contract to perform the 3 transports: Bigge Crane and Rigging / Specialized Rail Transport The path to success
