10 HULL We manage and operate Hull Container Terminal. The terminal covers over 13 acres, with 64,200 sq. ft. of covered warehousing and open storage areas. 27 RIVER MANAGEMENT PD PORTS IS THE STATUTORY HARBOUR AUTHORITY ON THE RIVER TEES. IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE SAFE NAVIGATION OF THE WATERWAYS. HARBOUR OFFICE Operating 24 hours a day, the harbour office is an integral part of river management on the Tees, providing support and assistance for over 5,000 vessels a year. A traffic control system operates during the movement of certain types of ships and cargoes. PILOTAGE Pilotage at Teesport and the Port of Hartlepool is compulsory for certain categories of vessel. BUOYS As the Statutory Harbour Authority, we re obliged to maintain safe access and egress from the port. We use a specialist buoy-tending vessel to do this. HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYING To ensure channels are maintained at the required depth, we have specialist surveying craft equipped with leadingedge technology that enables fast data gathering and frequent chart production. To achieve this, we ve put in place a team of Environmental Champions at each of our operating locations. These teams ensure we continue to adhere to environmental legislation and strive to keep improving our environmental performance. PD Ports introduced its own environmental management system in Since then the business has achieved International Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001, one of the first UK ports businesses to achieve this exacting qualification. WE TAKE OUR ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY VERY SERIOUSLY AND WE RECOGNISE THE POSITIVE IMPACT WE CAN HAVE ON OUR LOCAL REGIONS AND PEOPLE. This new charity was set up by port-related businesses along the River Tees to raise the aspirations of young people on Teesside by offering better training and employment opportunities. Working with the High Tide Foundation, the wider industrial community and local education and training providers, PD Ports runs effective programmes giving people practical skills and experience in port-related sectors. The first result of these programmes was the creation, in 2013, of 13 full-time permanent positions for apprentices in operational roles at Teesport. This represents a 100% success rate following the introduction of the bespoke 18-month apprenticeship scheme in PD Ports is an active member of Business in the Community. Since joining in 2011, we have become firmly established in a network of multinational household names, small local businesses and public sector organisations that all stand for responsible business.
