Measuring range sybol 1. : Backlight indication, the backlight will be off after no further operation for 15 seconds. 8 Substrate ad standard piece Standard piece: a. All the saple with a known thickness could be used as a standard calibration piece and in short referred to as standard piece. b. The coated standard piece An even firly-coated standard piece with a known thickness could be used as a Standard Piece too, and in ters of the application of this product, the coating ust be non -conductive. Substrate: a. The standard substrate's roughness and electrical property, ust be close to those of the aterial to be easure. To identify the suitability of the substrate, copare the outputs fro the standard piece with the aterial to be easured. b. If the thickness of the aterial is in the range of the regulated, two ethods could be selected to calibrate. 1). To calibrate a etal Standard Piece that with sae thickness as the aterial to be easured. 2). use a siilar electricity standard etal gasket piece which have enough thickness for calibration, be sure that there is not spacing between substrates. c. If the curvature of the aterial is too big to be calibrated on the flat surface, please ensure that the coated standard pieces curvature has the sae thickness as the aterial to be easured

6 FILM/COATING THICKNESS GAUGE DEL /ON UNIT Connect between handle sub- unit and ain unit Pay attention to indicator direction Sae direction Turn on the unit 1. Pull up the snap of the battery door to open it and insert the battery included in the package, then close the door and lock it up. /ON 2. Press the key to turn on the unit, as shown in following figure: Main unit plug Sensor plug Plug in and Plug-out ethod: Plug the sensor into the ain unit's sensor socket with sae direction. Press until the sensor plug produces a locking sound to ensure the connection was in a locking status. When plug out, push up the sensor plug's etal cover to disable the locking status. Then pull out the sensor plug. Press Caution: Pay attention to the polarity of the battery less daage the instruent. 3. After the entire screen displays for 1 second, the default state is single test ode,if the LCD screen displays the sybol or, please proptly replace the battery, as shown in following figure: Low battery indication Caution: Do not handle it violently less hurt the surface!

7 1 Calibration To ensure the precise test result, please calibrate the instruent at the test scene. The instruent has three different calibrations ethods: zero point calibration, two point calibration, and basic calibration. Zero point calibration: a.take a easureent on a standard substrate or on an uncoated substrate. LCD display a data, for exaple,.3 μ, like the following picture: Two point calibration: a.calibrate zero point first. b. take a easureent on the standard piece which thickness close to the target piece.(like 1μ), if the LCD display 18μ, like the following picture: Al substrate Al substrate b.do not lift the detect tip and press the /ON key, the buzzer will sound, that signal indicated the zero point calibration is copleted. LCD displayes as shown below: c. Do not lift the detect tip and press the and key to adjust the reading as sae with the standard piece, after these calibration is coplete, the instruent is ready to use. LCD displayed like the following picture: 2 c. Repeat step a and b to ake basic easure value less than 1μ, this can iprove easureent precision. To ensure a precise two point calibration, repeat step b and c to iprove easureent precision and reduce incidental error

8 Basic calibration: It is necessary to change the basic calibration under the following conditions: the top of the detect head is worn off after the detect head is aintained Special use the product has not been used or calibrated for a long tie 2 a. Prepare six standard pieces. /ON b. Hold the key and press the key to turn on the unit, LCD displayed as following: Press and key to adjust the display value to be equals with the standard piece's thickness, and then place the next standard piece on the base to calibrate. d. Repeat the above steps until the last standard piece is calibrated, after the unit auto power off and the new calibrated value have been saved in the eory. Turn on the unit, and it is now ready to easure. 2 When LCD display.u, you can take zero calibration. C. Choose a standard piece at thickness 5, when obtain a reading for 5., LCD displays as following:

9 Unit selection Single easureent Press /ON key to turn on the unit, and then press UP/ DOWN key to change the ode, when LCD display UNT, that eans enter the unit selection ode. The default unit is u, LCD displays as shown below: Prepared target piece you want to test. Press /ON key to turn on the unit, the default test ode is single test ode, LCD displays as shown below: UNIT Press key, you can select your desired unit on u to uil, LCD displays as shown below: Contact detect head with the test surface vertically and press the detect head lightly, LCD displays a value, for exaple, 19 μ, and buzzer sounded at this tie, LCD displays as shown below: 2 il il

10 When the second easureent is finished, SNG counter will autoatic upgrade to 2. The axiu SNG counter is 15. When it is full, it will stop to increase the nuber. 2 Continuous easureent Turn on the tester, and press / key to select the test ode, when LCD displays CTN, that eans Continuous easureent ode. LCD displays as following picture: Every tie detect head contact the test surface vertically, an reading will be generated with a beep of buzzer. For another easureent, lift the detect head, and repeat the operation above. Place the detect head to the target piece you want to easure, and then press the detect head lightly to easure, the buzzer will not sound during the easureent, LCD will display the easure result continuously, the last easure value will be saved in the test autoatically, the quantity of the data are also be eorized, LCD display CTN1 at the sae tie, LCD displays as following picture(the ax eory is up to 15th, including SNG eory): 2 Caution: During self-calibration,keep the sensor at least 15c away for standard base

11 Standard Deviation easureent Turn on the tester, and press / key to change the test ode, when LCD display DIF, that ean the tester turn into standard deviation easureent ode. Data record/ recall and delete 1. Record: The easureent result will be saved autoatically after every easuring and the easureent quantity will be increase one by one, the ax nuber is Data recall: Press and key to review the easureent values when he easureent nuber is flashing. Place the sensor head to the target piece you want to easure, then press the detect head lightly to easure, the buzzer beeps, LCD will display the value of the difference between the last reading and the current reading, LCD displays as shown below: 2 3. Delete: a.delete the current data: when you do not want to delete one of the stored data, you can press the key to go back to the last one when the easureent nuber is flashing, and then take another easureent for replace the stored data. b. Delete all the data: you can delete all data by pressing the DEL key for 2 second when the easureent quantity is flashing

12 Data analysis Display Data Nuber (NO): The tester also provide data analyse function after have easured several groups of data, press / key to change ode, LCD will display average value (AVG), MAX, MIN, Standard Deviation(dFR), data nuber(no), LCD displays as following picture: Display average value (AVG): Display Maxiu value (MAX): Display Miniu value (MIN): Display Standard warp (dfr): Caution: a.when the easureent nuber is flashing, please press /ON key to stop it. And press / key to change ode. b.the displayed value in the operation instruction is erely exaples to illustrate, please refer to the value obtained in your practice. c.the tester will power off autoatically in 8 seconds. If no further operation happens

13 3.Other ites -22- Attentions 1. Factors which affect the easureent precision and soe instruction: A. Electrical property: The conductivity of the etal, deterined by the aterial content and heat treatent, will finally influence the output of easureent, so please calibrate with the sae electrical property of the standard sheet as the substrate aterial. b. Thickness of substrate etal: Every instruent is subject to a critical thickness of a certain substrate etal which allows the easurent could be taken when the thickness is lager than the critical. This unit's critical thickness(iniu substrate thickness) is.5. c. Verge effect: The unit is sensitive to the steep change on the surface of the target piece. So the output obtained near the verge or inner angle of the piece is not reliable. Therefore, easureent on curved surface, the result is not reliable. d. Curvature: The curvature of the target piece ay affect the easureent result. This effect will be increased as the curvature's radius reduced. e. Roughness degree of the surface: The roughness degree of substrate etal and coating ay affect the easureent. The bigger the roughness degree is, the bigger the effect is. Rough surface will cause syste error and incidental error. You should increase the easureent nuber at different place to reduce incidental error. If the substrate etal is rough, you ust adjust point on the substrate etal which is not coated and has siilar roughness with the target one; or you can use ipregnant which can not erode the substrate etal to dissolve the coating, and then to adjust the point. f. Adhesive layer: The unit is sensitive to the attachent between the test head and the coating, so you ust clear the layer to ake sure the test head contact the coating diretly.. g. the detect head's pressure: The pressure on the target piece can affect the easureent value, so to aintain a basic constant pressure. h. Detect head's angle: The angle of the test head affects the easureent. You ust be sure the detect head to be contact the target piece is at a right angle. i. the target piece's distortion: The detect head can ake the target piece of soft coating distort, if the distortion is too big, the easureent value is not correct. 2. Attentions in operation: a. The property of substrate etal For eddy current ethod, standard pieces in line with the substrate in conductivity and roughness of the surface roughness is siilar. b. the thickness of the substrate: Check whether the substrate's thickness is less than the critical thickness

14 c. verge effect: Do not easure at the locations where there are steep shape change of the easured, i.e. Verge, hole or inner corner and so on. d. Curvature: Do not easure at the distorted surface. e. The readings: Because the readings ay not be identical all the tie, so you should several easureents at the sae area. The local difference of the coating also requests to easure several ties at the specified area especially rough surface. f. Cleanness of surface: You should clear all the adhesive layer on the surface like dust, grease, rust etc. Before taking easureent, but do not reove any coating. 3. About the easureent reading: a. As per statistics, single value in not reliable enough, so all the output readings are average value of ultiple easureents that is carried out by the unit within hundreds of illiseconds. b. To ensure ore precision reading, you can easure several ties, and then delete the ax error one, at last use analysis function to get five statistical data: average value (AVG), MAX, MIN, standard warp (dfr), data nuber (NO). c. According to the international standard, the final easure result can expressed as the following forula: CH=A+/-2D CH---the thickness of the coating A----the average value of the easure data (AVG) D-----standard warp (dfr) Maintenance and warranty Maintenance: 1. Replaceent and upkeep of battery: a. After power on, if an icon appears on the LCD, you need to replace the battery iediately, for details please refer to figures and contents on page 9 of this anual. b. Reove the battery fro the unit if it is not required for extended periods of tie in order to avoid daage to the battery copartent and the erosion resulting fro a battery leakage. 2. Do not store or use the unit in following circustances: a. Splashes of water or high levels of dust. b. Air of high salt or sulphur content. c. Air ixed with other gases or contents. d. High teperature or huidity (above5, 9%,) or direct sunlight. 3. Do not disasseble the unit or attept any internal alterations. 4. Never use alcohol or diluents to clean the housing for doing that will especially erode the LCD surface; just clean the unit lightly as needed with little clean water. Warrity: 1.
