4 Pre-emergent Fertilizer Combination Products Timing is critical Monitoring soil temperatures is one of the best ways to predict weed germination. Crabgrass germinates once soil temperatures have reached F for several consecutive days. In southern Ohio this happens around March 15- April 15. One of nature s signs of soil temperatures high enough for crabgrass germination is the forsythia bush in full bloom. An important note to make is that crabgrass will continue to germinate and emerge for several weeks after initial crabgrass emergence is observed, other grassy weeds tend to germinate later than crabgrass. Barricade Barricade Herbicide offers the longest residual and most consistent full-season, preemergence weed and grass control without staining. Active Ingredient: Dithiopyr Pendimethalin Pendimethalin provides consistent control of crabgrass, foxtail and other grassy weeds at a lower price than premium brands. Active Ingredient: Pendimethalin Chemical Family: Dinitroaniline Mode of Action: Microtubule assembly inhibitor. Plant cells cannot divide and multiply. Behavior in Plants: Root absorbed with coleoptile absorbtion in highly sensitive grass species 4

5 Pre-emergent Weed Control for Ornamental Beds Dimension 2EW Specialty Herbicide Dimension 2EW specialty herbicide provides pre-emergence and early postemergence control of crabgrass, and season-long control of crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail, spurge and Poa annua. With multiple formulations, including the new water-based Dimension 2EW specialty herbicide, Dimension can be used over the top of field-grown nursery ornamentals and landscape ornamentals, and in established lawns, golf course fairways, roughs and tee boxes, and commercial sod farms. Application rate:.74 oz. per 1000 sq. ft Active Ingredient: Dithiopyr Snapshot 2.5 TG Specialty Herbicide Snapshot 2.5 TG specialty herbicide provides up to eight months of control for 111 broadleaf and grassy weeds in 413 field-grown and 235 container-grown ornamentals without harming them. Should be watered in after application for best results. Application rate: 2.3 to 4.6 lbs. per 1000 sq.ft. Active Ingredient: trifluralin + isoxaben 5% Treflan Herbicide 5% Treflan herbicide is a small particle granular formulation of the well-known Treflan herbicide. It has activity on annual grasses and some broadleaf weeds for use in ornamental beds and ground covers. The granular form is a convenient option for landscapers. Should be watered in after application for best results. Application rate: 1.84 lbs. per 1000 sq.ft. Active Ingredient: trifluralin XL 2G Herbicide with Benefin & Oryzalin A granular formulation of Balan and Surflan for pre-emergent control of annual grasses and some broadleaf weeds. Must be applied prior be annual weed germination. Should be watered in after application for best results. Application rate: 3 to 6 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. Active Ingredients: benefin and oryzalin 5
