ipipe Integrated Pest Information Platform for Extension and Education Progress Through Sharing Dr. Moneen Jones Assistant Research Professor Entomology

What is the ipipe? The ipipe is comprised of crop-pest programs that incentivize growers and consultants to submit observations on target and endemic pests by providing tools and information for timely management decision-making. Coordinated by extension professionals from across the nation, programs address a variety of crops and pests and provide undergraduate students with hands-on extension and diagnostic experiences. Risk-based research will prioritize detection efforts for target pests and direct in-field scouting for endemic pests. Observations housed in a national pest observation depository will enable future research using geographically extensive, multiyear databases.

Pest Data Sharing Created to promote the exchange of pest data among agricultural professionals. It is an information technology platform that provides tools and models for managing and analyzing data in order to generate products and commentary in support of agricultural decision-making. The ipipe brings together extension professionals; county agents; crop consultants; and industry, federal and state partners by allowing the exchange of pest observations while protecting client privacy.

ipipe at a glance What you can see: Observations overlaid on model output Observations tracked through time Variety of model types: HYSPLIT trajectory Aerobiological Epidemiological Local physiological, or growth, stages Products that can be overlaid with observations: Weather variables Crop distribution Pest predicted spread Pest local development How will your data be protected and shared: Data shared anonymously with participants only, contributing to regional picture of pest activity Individuals view their own observations as points Shared data displayed at county centroids Data sharing rules take into account pest regulatory status and observation confidence

ipipe at a glance Pest sharing rules consider pest regulatory status: Regulated, quarantine (e.g., late wilt of corn) Regulated, nonquarantine (e.g., Goss s wilt) Nonregulated, supervised (e.g., soybean rust) Nonregulated, nonsupervised (e.g., corn rootworm) Pest sharing rules consider observation confidence: USDA-APHID PPQ-certified lab Non-federal certified lab Extension specialist Diagnostic in-field test Without confirmation e-notebook Scheduled automatic product delivery Convenient way to export your observations

ipipe at a glance A. Roles/Tool Bars Lists all roles and tools available to user B. Main Panel Displays features enabled under each tool, such as observation maps C. Right Panel/Product Selection Enables the selection of available products for display D. Left Panel/Data Tree Allows selection of available data elements for display E. Calendar Permits selection of observations and products for display by time period and across years F. Mapping Tools: Layer Selection Lists available products for display in the main window; toggle between my organization and shared data G. Query Tool Provides ability to query data, commentary, and locations for HYSPLIT trajectories H. Add to Scheduler Ability to request an automated delivery of a product or e-notebook on a scheduled basis
