1 M723A CHOPPED STRAND MAT I. DESCRIPTION M723A is a medium-fine fiber, rapid wetting chopped strand mat and is composed of silane sized, multi-length (one to two inch) chopped glass filament bundles that average 30 tex (gm/km). It is bonded together with a small amount of highly soluble powdered polyester binder and is designed to be randomly oriented and multi-resin compatible. M723A is produced using Advantex glass fiber. Advantex combines the excellent mechanical and electrical properties of traditional E glasses with the acid corrosion resistance of E-CR glass. Advantex meets the requirements for both E and E-CR glass per ISO 2078 and ASTM D M723A mat is manufactured in conformity with ISO 2559 and DIN standards and it is listed by NSF for potable water applications. II. USE M723A is recommended for skin coating and back up laminating in general purpose, open mold processes using polyester, vinyl ester and DCPD resins. It is designed to give good dry handling performance. M723A provides quick wet through and wet out, and good conformability with sufficient strength to allow wet handling. III. (4) The ignition loss includes the mat binder, sizing and moisture. The latter is not to exceed 0.2% by weight. (5) All test methods are available upon request. (6) These are manual methods for calibration and post production tests. Testing and control during production is done with automated scanning equipment and standard SPC methods. IV. VISUAL PROPERTIES a) Colour - The mat shall be white to off white. b) Holes - Holes over 25 mm in diameter are not allowed. c) Long strands - Long chop over 15 cm is not allowed. d) Foreign matter Foreign matter (dirt, binder spots, dark fibers, heavy bundles, etc.) over 25 mm x 25 mm (or > 625 sq mm in total area) is not allowed. 3 V. PACKAGING AND IDENTIFICATION a) Roll-up: The mat is wound on a mm (4") inside diameter tube to an approximate outside roll diameter of 286 mm (11 1/4"). b) Roll Lengths and s: The approximate weights and lengths of full rolls for standard products are: Nominal Mat Roll Width Nominal Full Roll Length Nominal Full Roll gm/m 2 oz/ft 2 cm. in. m. yd. kg. lb * 15.2 * 20.3 * 63.5 * * Slit rolls c) Standard Packaging: Full Widths - The mat rolls are packaged to provide adequate protection during shipping and storage as well as minimizing waste for the customer. Each roll is individually enclosed in Cling-Pak wrap, stood vertically, and palletized sixteen (16) rolls per pallet. The pallet load is banded with tape and Cling-Pak wrapped. Slit Widths As for full widths, with the addition of a further over wrap of Cling-Pak and support tubes placed inside the cores for stability. Other unitization methods may be employed to accommodate overseas shipments. Trademark of Owens Corning Page 3 of 5

4 VI. PACKAGING AND IDENTIFICATION - cont'd d) Wrap-in Rolls and Small Rolls: On occasion, it may be necessary to wrap-in 2 lengths of mat to obtain a full roll. Wrap-in rolls will consist of two (2) pieces only, the shortest of which will be at least 27 feet (9 meters). The approximate location of the wrap will be flagged by a strip of colored paper at the edge of the roll and shall also be identified accordingly on the roll label. If a wrap-in cannot be made, the resulting small roll can be included provided it is at least 80% of full diameter. Twenty-five percent (25%) of the rolls of any one shipment may be wrap-in rolls or small rolls. e) Identification: Each roll shall display a label with the following information (in both Imperial and SI units where applicable): Product Name Nominal Product Code Roll Width Roll Number Date of Manufacture Time of Manufacture Net f) Storage Conditions: Unless otherwise specified, it is recommended to store glass fiber product in a cool dry area. For optimal performances, following conditions should be respected: Temperature 10-35ºC Relative Humidity 35 85% Glass fiber products must remain in their original packaging material until preparing for use. Material should be acclimatized to workshop temperature before use. If storage temperature is low (< 15ºC) it is recommended that mat rolls be conditioned by transferring to the workshop and being left open at least 24 hours before intended use in order to prevent condensation. When stored properly, there is no known shelf life to the product, but retesting is advised after three years from the initial production date to insure optimum performance. Page 4 of 5
