2 Congratulations! Congratulations on your purchase of the Lionel Drawbridge! Throw the switch on the controller, and the bridge lifts into the air with the red warning lights flashing so that boats or trains can pass underneath. Note! 3 Installing the Drawbridge To prevent the trains from crashing into the raised bridge or going off the track, we recommend that you place your Drawbridge on an insulated block of track with a separate accessory power supply. Before and after the accessory, the center (powered) rail will be disconnected, causing the trains to come to a stop if they get too close. Note! The Drawbridge was designed for use only with O gauge track. 1. Remove the center pin from the track section that connects to the fixed platform and replace it with an insulating pin (available separately, ). Connect that track section to the fixed platform. Refer to Figure 1 for the track plan. Note! You may choose to place this insulating pin a few track sections away, allowing more time for runaway trains to stop. 2. Place another track section to the other side of the bridge. The rails on the moving bridge section must rest on the metal pins. 3. Remove the center pin from the next track section and replace it with an insulating pin. Connect these track sections. Note! Again, you may choose to place this insulating pin a few track sections away, allowing more time for runaway trains to stop. 5 Powering the Drawbridge Follow these steps to power your Drawbridge with a separate accessory power supply. Keep in mind that the accessory will operate best at volts (AC). Refer to Figure 3 on page 6 for the complete wiring diagram. You will also need to connect the center rail to the Drawbridge. The center rail in the isolated block of track will only be powered when the bridge is down. Caution! You need the ends of the wires to be stripped back 1/4" to 3/8". To strip the wires, use a pair of wire strippers or a sharp knife. Only an adult should perform this task! Always use care when stripping wires. 1. Power your layout. Make your track power connections anywhere outside of the Drawbridge s electrical block of track. 2. Attach a Lock-On (available separately, ) outside of the Drawbridge s electrical block of track. Connect the #1 terminal on the Lock-On to the CENTER RAIL OUT terminal on the Drawbridge. Remove the thumbscrew to expose a hole in the post. Insert the bare end of a wire into each of the hole, then retighten the thumbscrews to secure the wires. 3. Attach another wire to the Power/A terminal on your power supply or to the #1 Lock-On terminal (connected outside of the block) and connect it to the POWER A terminal on the Drawbridge. 4. Attach a final wire to the Common/Ground/U terminal on your power supply or to the #2 Lock-On terminal (connected outside of the block)and connect it to the POWER U terminal on the Drawbridge. 5

7 Operating the Drawbridge Once the accessory is in place and connected, you are ready to raise and lower the bridge.
