1 First Prize Ordnance Factory ORDNANCE FACTORY VARANGAON Jalgaon (Maharashtra) Unit Profile Ordnance Factory Varangaon is engaged in manufacturing of small arms ammunition required by Army, Navy, Air force as well as various units of Ministry of Home Affairs. OFV was established in 1964 and started production in Ordnance Factory Varangaon, One of the prominent member of a family of 41 ordnance factories, is located on the bank of river Tapti in the Maharashtra state. The factory is stretched in approx acres with a dedicated band of committed workforce, staff and officers working round the clock, the factory is always busy in meeting the requirements of services and para-military units in quality and quantity as per laid down time schedule. OFV is certified with Integrated Management System (ISO-9001, ISO14001 & ISO18001) and Energy Management System ISO 50001:2011 from BIS. Statistical quality control technique is fully operational in OFV to maintain high degree of quality and reliability of end product. In addition to the production activities, the other activities in the field of research & development, quality improvement, value engineering, Total Productive maintenance, Total quality Management, Six Sigma, Energy conservation management as well as computerization and automation are also given due importance at Ordnance Factory Varangaon for the optimization, capacity utilization and resource conservations. 500

3 Implementation of Energy Saving Initiatives 1. Energy meter for each production section and utility section for the accountability of specific energy consumption in direct and indirect way. 2. Installation of flow meter in process to determine the cost pattern of steam/ LPG/Water and its optimum utilization/steam generation. 3. Power factor improvement: - Capacitor banks with APFC has been installed at various location at load centre to achieve power factor near to unity. 4. Replacement of Oil cooled Transformer with Dry Type Transformer :- Old oil cooled Transformer Dry type Transformers. 5. LED Street Light:- LED lights installed in place of 70W SV lights in street and 85W LED lights in-place of 250W HPMV in workplace. 502

4 6. Energy Efficient Tube Light (EETL) :- 28W Energy Efficient Tube Lights & 36W Tube lights installed in place of 40W Fluorescent Tube Lights. 7. CFL Light :- 70 W SV Lights, 300W GLS lamp & 160W blended lamp replaced with 45W CFL & 23W CFL. 8. T5 Lamps :- 70W SV lights & 500W halogen lamp replaced with 28W/56W T5 Lamps. 9. Metal Halide Lamps :- 500W halogen lamp replaced with 150 W Metal Halide lamps. 10. Ceiling Fans :- 80 W Ceiling fans replaced with 45 W ceiling fans. 11. Solar Water Heaters :- 1000LPD Solar water heater Installed at various locations KW Solar System- Proposal for 170KW Grid connected Solar Plant at the roof top of Admin block. 13. Air Turbo Ventilators- AIR TURBO VENTILATOR has been installed on roof of manufacturing section to reduce the temperature inside the workplace. 14. Possibility of replacement of existing drying unit in building no. 99 with solar heating system:- Proposal under study and auto control system for the existing manual operated heating system will be replaced. 15. Mini electrically operated/ solar operated steam generation unit in low steam consumption area. :- Solar water heating panel has been installed in various location. Replacement/ modification of existing steam line. 16. Realignment of compressor line and all line should be in closed loop circuit with intelligence control unit for better performance of compressors.:- 17. Intelligence street light control system for reducing the electrical consumption. 18. Recirculation of water / rain water harvesting system for admin building. 19. Solar feed water preheating system for boilers :- Private firm has been consulted and their proposal in under study. 20. Installation of solar operated hot water unit to reduce the steam utilization. 21. Energy Audit by certified Energy Auditor from BEE :- Internal Energy Audit has been conducted by CEA and same is being implemented in phase wise manner. 22. Rolling shield/ individual award on best specific energy consumption :.Training on energy conservation is being regularly conducted and individual motivational award has been given on various platform to promote energy conservation movement of the organization. 23. Possibility to find out the reduction of petrol/ diesel consumption by MT Section.:- Vehicle pool system has been adopted to reduce the oil consumption. 503
