4 Activity/Works KURA s Achievements on Core Mandate 172km of new roads developed, 167.7km rehabilitated, 36 bridges and interchanges constructed, 288.8km of pedestrian walkways constructed, 431.8km put under periodic maintenance and 9,797km of roads under routine maintenance (an average of 1,322km annually). 10 Other Projects With Strategic Development Partners Nairobi Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Integrated Systems in which information and communication technologies are applied, in among others; Traffic Management Center [TMC] Framework Road transport, including transport infrastructure, in transport vehicles and users, ITS Infrastructure Design & Installation Traffic management and mobility management at nodal and network level, Interfaces with other modes of transport e.g. BRT and railway Proposed Nairobi TMC E-Police cameras to record violations Pilot TMC at KURA HQ 10

11 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Designs of Lines 3, 4 and 5 Proposed Bus Rapid Transit routes Section of Outer Ring Road showing space left out for future BRT lanes KURA has initiated a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) concept and design in Kenya with Feasibility studies and Engineering Designs of Lines 3, 4 and 5 at advance stages in collaboration with development partners and other Government Agencies. 11

12 Proposed Viaduct Over Nairobi Railways Station Study Stage: Preliminary level Study Area: CBD and periphery of CBD as per the NIUPLAN concept Higher Plan: 2 metropolitan development projects namely NaMSIP and NIUPLAN respecting Kenya and Metro Vision Purpose: To improve accessibility to the CBD plus surrounding area and decongestion Necessary Harmonization: The Viaduct project and ongoing NaMSIP projects i.e Green mall project (to avoid overlap of the projects) Challenges: coordination with affected facilities (KRC Properties, Bus Terminal ( in front of railway station), Moi Avenue Parking Lot, NCC Market (Wakulima Market), 12

15 Proposed 2 nd Nyali Bridge Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintain and Transfer PPP Contract, for: New 600m Bridge across Tudor Creek, Mombasa; together with 1.7km New Roads Expansion of 5km of existing roads on a 30 Year Contract, with an Availability Based Payment Mechanism Estimated Capital Cost: $200m 15
