1 9/3/2015 VOLUSIA COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DIVISION Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors by providing essential services for the safe and efficient movement of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout Volusia County. JON CHENEY, Traffic Engineer Challenges So how do we accomplish our mission?? 2 Slide 3 MW2 J1 This sounds confusing. How about Short and long range planning AND PROTECTION of key countywide roads - after all, isn't that what LOS standards are all about? We get it but the public might now. ok Slide 4 MW3 J2 RESPONDING TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GROWTH WITHOUT RESOURCES IS A HUGE CHALLENGE. Will discuss during Slide 5 MW4 J3 THE PICTURES AND GRAPHICS LOOK GREAT! Agree Slide 6 MW5 J4 MW6 J5 MW7 J6 Replace COMP with either comp or comprehensive. Agree Spell out subcommittee May want to point out that we are doing well but we need resources to keep it that way. Jerry & John will handle during discussion of Road Program

4 Slide 8 MW8 I don't understand this part of the "square." What are you comparing? TIA and TIA Methodology - J7 The boxes highlight the difference b/w Workloads & review times Slide 10 MW9 J8 MW10 J9 You may want to call them Traffic Counts - rency counts is confusing. That may spark questions about concurrency. Some people don't know what that is! A big chunk of our time is taken with safety investigations and coordination. This happens before we get to the study part...we resolve so much in this phase too... Slide 11 MW11 J10 Oh my gosh - did you really put that in there? When I think of Emotional Appeal vs Facts, I think of people who ask for 4 way stops to slow traffic, people who complain about speeders when speeding isn't really an issue, it's only perceived. People who want us to solve enforcement issues with engineering solutions - it can't be done. I'll bring this up during discussion

6 Slide 17 MW12 J11 MW13 J12 MW14 J13 You should probably include "update" too... May want to add "Approving development with little revenue resources to improve the transportation system"...this is a huge issue. We don't have the money to build what these huge developments need - and developers won't pay for anything either. Refer to previous comment on this topic Trend is that non-residential development is on the rise. Added Slide 18 MW15 J14 I cannot believe you didn't include a picture of Michelle, Stephanie and me. Alrighty then... Talk to Steph - she produced graphic.
