5 NAMPO 2015: THE BIG ONE This year Ronin Precision Farming Systems, in partnership with Trimble, launched a joined marketing exercise to strategically introduce Trimble s Connected Farm, a software solution for effective management of precision farming activities, to the South African market at NAMPO Ronin also exhibited in its own capacity in the Santam Agri hall representing Trimble, DICKEY-john and RDS. In order to ensure that both Ronin and Trimble were visible at NAMPO 2015 marketing efforts were directed toward print and radio to deliver effective exposure for both brands. Overvaal stereo and Grain SA radio aired Ronin 30 second spots before and during the show and Grain SA radio broadcasted presence and brand on-site at NAMPO. Ronin PFS s general manager, Mr. Jaco Viviers, personally attended two live interviews to answer questions regarding the application of precision farming in the local commercial agricultural sector. Multiple live reads regarding Ronin s precision agricultural solutions were also delivered by professional broadcasters over the ground s PA system for the duration of the show. In tandem with radio the print campaign which included noted publications such Farmers Weekly, Landbou Weekblad, AgriSA, Senwes Scenario, AgriMag and Agrisales proved to be effective call to arms to the market. Both stalls representing the two connected brands of Ronin and Trimble were ensured effective exposure to the desired demographic pre-show and during. 6 NAMPO concluded on the 15th of May 2015 and can be reported as an success for both Ronin and Trimble. From time spent at the show and conversations that were engaged in with interested parties it was evident that there exists an eagerness in the South African commercial farming community for technological solutions proven to add value and efficiency to daily farming operations. Being able to manage precision farming activities from a smart phone, tablet or computer is deemed valuable to the farmer who wants to be both mobile and productive simultaneously. This definitely qualifies Connected Farm as an asset and engenders optimism that the sheer functionality of Connected Farm will prove the software solution s worth in our local agricultural market. During the show Ronin also ran a small promotional competition at it s own stall situated in the Santam Agri hall in order to entice the public to enter and learn about precision farming applications. It is important to educate the public, whether they are farmers or not, about the significance and application of precision farming systems. The wider knowledge and awareness of our systems and solutions are spread the better the agricultural market will be primed for future interactions with the technology. The competition was titled The Ronin Brilliant Barbecue Competition and Die Ronin Kwaai Braai Kompetisie. 4 Braais were handed out during the show. Draws were held at 16H00 every day for the duration of the show. 8 MISSION UKRAINE Not much will stand in the way of Ronin completing a project. Just about two months ago a Ronin GMS projects team, comprised by Mr. Maruis Steyn and Mr. Munro v.d. Westhuizen, travelled to Kalush; a city set in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (province) of western Ukraine, to complete an ART installation in the region. Although the much publisized political instability in western Ukraine was a risk factor our research into the region revealed that eastern Ukraine and the area of Kalush was stable and represent a minimal risk. Regardless, a risk still existed and our project specialist could have opted to sit this one out. Ronin however is a company with a can-doattitude and this project would afford it a beach head in a country that is estimated to have a grain storage capacity of 45 million tons. This was an opportunity that could not be ingnored and all involved agreed that the installation proceed. At the time of the writing of this article both Mr. Steyn & v.d. Westhuizen have returned home safe and the installation deemed a success. Training was provided to key personnel while the team was on site and regular communications ensure that the wheels keep on turning at this Ronin foothold in the Ukraine. Further orders have already originated from the facility as the Art solution expands to include the remainder of the facility. We are optimistic that once the technology is proven at this site that our operations in Ukraine would expand along the same model as established in the Southern African grain handling industry, where Ronin evidences an proven and established Art install base.

9 PRODUCT SHOW CASE: THE MINI GAC One of Ronin s most popular off-the-shelf products is the Mini GAC+ by DICKEY-john. The mini GAC technology is based on the commercial and laboratory moisture tester Series GAC 2100 and is the preferred portable moisture tester for the serious farmer. Moisture testing on the farm is a serious matter. If you aren t using a moisture tester, you are throwing your profits away. The Mini GAC+ will measure moisture content and test weight which are the two most important factors for a profitable harvest. This compact whole grain moisture tester includes an internal scale to eliminate pre-weighing and it has no screw caps to deal with. The moisture range is 5 to 45%, depending upon the grain type and has a grain temperature range of 0-50ºC. The sample size is approximately 1 pint and the Mini GAC+ can hold 20 twenty-grain calibrations but the user can choose from 450 calibrations that are available from the manufacturer. Each unit includes a 9V battery, carrying case, funnel assembly, belt clips and instruction manual. A USB cable allows the user to directly download alternate calibrations from the manufacturer website. 11 RONIN PFS IN THE TRAINING FIELDS Ronin is committed to ensuring that our project teams in GMS & PFS remain up to date and trained on all the latest technologies and solutions related to our markets. Our members of staff have recently returned from the Netherlands and have in the past travelled to France, England, Germany and Denmark for training in order to ensure that all Ronin project staff remain on the cutting edge. Featured in this article is a local training session that was presented by Trimble on site at a farm in the Klerksdorp area. Here Ronin PFS staff received training on the application of the CFX & FMX integrated displays in the field levelling process. Further training was also given in Field IQ applications.

12 RONIN PFS ON THE JOB Ronin will aways go that extra mile for it s customers, as was the case with the base station mast erected in the images above. The mast was manufactured by the client and Ronin assisted with the commisioning of it. At around 25 metres high, this is probably a new landmark in the Rondebult area. Our man on the spot was Mr. Francois Terblanche, one of our top PFS installation specialists. Mr. Terblance recently spent some time in the Netherlands where memebers of Ronin PFS received training on the latest Trimble precision farming systems.

13 INTRODUCING AIMS 300p SERIES Ronin IMS, situated near the port of Richards bay, is a service focused Ronin company that offers moment-in-time bulk verification and tally services to port, marine, industrial, agricultural and mining concerns. In the last edition of the e-solutions we focused on the company s port side activities and in this edition the focus will fall squarely on the bulk verification service that Ronin Inventory Management Systems offers to its bulk handlers and managers. There are a number of reasons why this service is of great value to our clients, but of paramount importance is the need to confirm exact volumes currently in storage. Possessing this critical information ensures that all future planning and negotiations can be done with confidence. Recorded book value, if not verified on a regular basis with bulk verifications or with automated systems*, can lead to financially damaging situations such as short shipment. Normally this only becomes evident after all stock has been cleared. With an AIMS moment in time bulk verification this situation can be prevented. To this day moment-in-time bulk verifications are still performed by Ronin with our AIMS 40p series scanning rig, the mobile cousin to our Artemis 40i series in bin/bunker automated bulk commodity management solution. Though a highly effective tool the system cannot operate effectively in high saturation environments (day light). This limits operational hours to night time only. Because Ronin constantly strives to improve systems and solutions our technical minds engaged in a lengthy R&D to introduce the AIMS 300p series, a system capable of sourcing distance measurements over 300 metres during high saturation conditions (day) regardless of the commodity s absorbency. Bulk verifications are now no longer limited to the night time. To wrap up; the AIMS 300p will soon be applied by Ronin IMS operations personnel to perform bulk verifications during the day or night, under roof or open air, on free standing or walled bunkers and in inclement weather conditions. The AIMS 300p delivers results with a standard deviation of only 0.25% on volume, and depending on the complexity of the scan, all verification information will be available within one working day. Ronin IMS is a ISO certified company and results are accepted by banks, auditor, insurers and other financial establishments and can also be used to clear up disputes. 15 RONIN ON SHOW With NAMPO succeffully completed I reviewed various show stands that the marketing department had executed through the years. If there is one single marketing activity that is of paramount importance to Ronin it is that of the carefully selected trade show.
