1 Item No.*9: 14T Cryogen Free System for measurement of physical properties: Specifications: Scope: Supply and installation of completely integrated and fully automated 14 Tesla cryogen free magnet system for measurement of physical properties as a function of temperature and magnetic field and is fully compatible with various measurement probes of Heat Capacity, vibrating sample magnetometer, Electrical Transport, AC magnetic susceptibility, Thermal Transport, dilution refrigerator, He-3 option etc. The system should operate over a wide temperature range of 1.8K to 400K and in magnetic fields up to 14 Tesla (140 koe). I. Basic Cryogen free magnet System (Low temperature and high magnetic fields): Both superconducting magnet and cryostat assembly should be cooled by single pulse tube type (two stage) closed cycle refrigerator (CCR) of appropriate cooling capacity of cold head and compressor. Cryostat Cooling Technology: Cryostat assembly which will include sample chamber and radiation shields and other assembly must be cooled by counter flow heat exchange mechanism for efficient cooling and efficient use of cooling resources. It should be equipped with double cold gas flow control systems, one for primary gas flow (max. flow rate ~ sccm) and a secondary fine flow (max rate ~1000 sccm) of gas/liquid to achieve quick and good temperature control. It should be continuous low-temperature operation. All the operations must be full automated without user intervention System should not use the inefficient mechanism of externally located helium reservoir and circulation mechanism and needle valve to control flow of gas, which results in very poor temperature control. The system should enable cooling of samples from highest temperature to the lowest at the highest specified cooling rate at any given magnetic field (up to 14T) without affecting the system performance or heating of magnet or resulting in a magnet quench. Same thing should hold good for heating the samples as well. Similarly one should be able to ramp the magnetic field to any value in the field loops of 0 to +14T to 0 to -14T to +14T at any sample temperature from 1.8K 400K. Any Liquid Helium and/or cold Helium gas flow into sample chamber or to any other parts within the system, and all low temperature operations must be handled

2 in fully automated way through electronic and computer controls. The system should NOT have any manual control in the entire operation of the system. The system should be equipped with number of thermometers at different stages/locations to monitor their temperatures through the main operating software. The system should have a built-in Cryo-pump that should be capable of pumping down to 10-4 torr. No external vacuum system need to be used to pump out sample chamber/or any other parts during sample changes or at other occasions in the normal operation routine. The main operating software should control and monitor the entire operation of the cryo magnet system and capable of running standard measurements. Various measurement probes when added, the main software should have either built-in capability or should be fully compatible with additional software and electronic modules that may be added as part of particular measurement probe. The system should have capability either built-in or should have full compatibility both in terms of hardware and software for the following measurement probes, irrespective of whether they are purchased now with the system or added at a later stage. The measurement options are (i) vibrating sample magnetometer, (ii) heat capacity, (iii) electrical transport, (iv) thermal transport, (v) ac susceptibility, (vi) dilution refrigerator and (vii) He-3 insert. The system should meet the following magnetic field and temperature parameters: Magnetic Field: a) Vertical Magnetic Field: 0 ±14 Tesla (continuously variable) with mt resolution b) Field uniformity of ±0.1% over sample space c) Highly stable bipolar power supply d) Magnet must be protected from quenches e) The magnet should have Oscillating mode so as reduce remnant magnetic field as small as possible. Low Temperatures: a) Temperature range: K with milli Kelvin stability and accuracy b) Fastest time to cool from 300K to 2K : 40 minutes or better c) Temperature Stability: ±0.1% for T < 10K and ±0.2% for T > 10K d) Temperature control modes: Fast Settle, No Overshoot, and Sweep mode Closed Cycle Refrigerator:
