2 AgSkilled is a direct partnership between Cotton Australia, the Grains Research & Development Corporation and the NSW Government. AgSkilled provides training and funding to both increase the skills levels of current agricultural employees, plus attract new people to the industry. 3 ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for AgSkilled you must either be currently working in or seeking employment in the NSW cotton or grains industries. Training must relate to an applicant s current role or career aspirations. In addition, you must be: An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen Living or working in NSW No longer at school 15 years or over A requirement of your enrolment includes providing your USI (Unique Student Identifier). The USI register is an Australia-wide registry and provides ongoing access to your records and results. You can register and obtain your USI at usi.gov.au HOW TO APPLY? Applications are open year-round for our AgSkilled courses. The AgSkilled program runs until June 30, All you need to do is: TAFE ENTERPRISE - AGSKILLED BROCHURE Complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form, found at tafensw.edu.au/agskilled 2. Submit your EOI to AgSkilled@tafensw.edu.au 3. Once received, TAFE NSW will review your EOI and contact you to outline the options available to you 4. 4 Statement of Attainment INTRODUCTION TO WELDING AND THERMAL CUTTING The skills gained in this Statement Of Attainment are targeted at repairing equipment that is required in the cotton and grains industries. Delivered in two day workshops for four weeks. Statement of Attainment AGRICULTURAL CHEMICAL SKILL SET AHCCHM303 AHCCHM304 Prepare and apply chemicals Transport and store chemicals The TAFE NSW Statement of Attainment in Chemical Application will teach you how to safely and correctly apply chemicals in order to control weeds in agricultural, horticultural or land management based enterprises. You will learn how to prepare, handle, apply, store and transport chemicals in a responsible and effective manner, and how to choose appropriate weed control measures. AHCCHM401 Develop procedures to minimise risks in the use of chemicals Two days face-to-face, including both theory and practical assessments. 4

5 FUMIGATION OPERATIONS CPPPMT3006 Manage pests by applying pesticides You ll learn: Fumigation legislation and licensing Record keeping Fumigation safety and use of personal protective equipment Fumigation methods Selecting fumigants Application of fumigants including calculations Fumigation equipment Setting up the site Monitoring the equipment and site Ventilation of fumigation area Site cleanup. CPPPMT3011 Manage organisms by applying fumigants to commodities and environments The course will run for three days, however if students have completed a farm chemical certificate such as SMARTtrain Chemical Application course (or similar) then students may be given Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The Fumigation Operations course can then be completed in 1.5 days. GIS ESSENTIALS CPPSIS4022A Store and retrieve spatial data Learn how to visualise data, make selections, analyse data, create basic maps and get familiar with GIS software. On completion, participants will have a sound understanding of basic spatial concepts and the skills to create, edit and work with spatial data using GIS software. This short course will also cover the basics of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), including collecting data with GNSS receivers and using suitable software to view and analyse collected data. GIS ANALYSIS & PROBLEM SOLVING SKILL SET This short course is an extension to GIS Essentials. It is expected that learners have a basic understanding of spatial data and software and would like to extend their knowledge to include spatial data editing and updating, performing GIS analysis to solve basic problems and creating GIS processes, spatial data maintenance, archiving and quality control, metadata creation and editing, cartographic map design and presentation. 6 COTTON PICKER OPERATION AHCMOM305 AHCWHS301 Operate specialised machinery and equipment Contribute to Work Health and Safely processes The training will provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to be able to safely operate a cotton picker, carry out basic maintenance and conduct operations in a safe and sustainable manner. This training will provide participants with the necessary skills to support employment in the cotton industry. AHCMOM302 AHCWRK309 Perform machinery maintenance Apply environmentally sustainable work practices Participants will complete training over 1 week with the remainder of the training and assessment completed on the job during the picking season. Students will be required to complete a log book as part of their training. COTTON PICKER MAINTENANCE AHCWRK309 AHCMOM302 Apply environmentally sustainable work practices Perform machinery maintenance The training will provide the participant with the skills and knowledge to be able to safely perform basic maintenance of a cotton picker and apply environmentally sustainable work practices in the field. This training will provide participants with the necessary skills to support employment in the cotton industry. One day face-to-face, including both theory and practical assessments. The skills and knowledge acquired from completing this course would apply to the agriculture sector, primarily farmers and agronomists. Statement of Attainment DRONE IN AGRICULTURE AHCAGB402 Analyse and interpret production data This short course will provide you with an introduction into the exciting world of drone technology. It will cover the practical handson use of the technology, as well as the CASA regulations that govern how it can be used. You will capture and use imagery to analyse and interpret farm production data. This information will be represented in maps so that the learner develops a special understanding of the data. AVIY3073 AVIW3038 CPPSIS3011 Control remote pilot aircraft systems on the ground Operate and manage remote pilot aircraft systems Produce basic maps Blended (online and 2 days face-to-face instructional training). All practical training is carried out on the Phantom Drone, and a class set is provided. Participants may bring along private drones as a talking point. Online learning may take between 10 and 12 hours. 6

You ll learn how to develop techniques for solving agricultural problems and improving the efficiency of production. OPERATE QUAD BIKE AHCMOM212 Operate Quad Bikes Working with quad bikes can be a dangerous activity. Make sure you are competent in all work health and safety principles and learn how to operate, maintain, load and unload quad bikes onto trailers and other vehicles. One day face-to-face, including both theory and practical assessments. 7

8 ENTER AND WORK IN CONFINED SPACES RIIWHS202D Enter and work in confined spaces This course is to train participants in the requirements of AS2865:2009 (Safe working in confined spaces) and covers all aspects of working safely in confined spaces, and the safety equipment used. Two days face-to-face including both theory and practical assessments. ON-FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (COTTON AND GRAIN INDUSTRY) In the Introduction to On-farm Business Management you ll learn to: Confidently market commodities Better control business risks and relationships Perform computerised bookkeeping Manage payroll, superannuation, budgeting, business tax and GST compliance matters Support the operation of a business and/or gain employment in the cotton and grains industries. 9 WORK SAFELY AT HEIGHTS (RESOURCE AND INFRASTRUCTURE) This course will allow you to gain the competency required to undertake safe working practices when working at heights or depths. It is appropriate for people working in the Cotton and Grains industries in operational roles. RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights One day face-to-face, including both theory and practical assessments. SIDE-BY-SIDE VEHICLES AHCMOM211 Operate side by side utility vehicles This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake work using a side-by-side utility vehicle used for general transport, carrying loads and towing small trailers. One day face-to-face, including both theory and practical assessments. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Participants MUST be 18 years or older to participate in this course. 9

10 FORKLIFT LICENCE TLILIC2001 Licence to operate a forklift truck This unit of competence (TLILIC2001) specifies the outcomes required for the operation of a powered industrial truck (equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachment) for licensing purposes. This will prepare the participant for their assessment. The national assessment is designed for users and operators of forklift trucks who wish to obtain a SafeWork NSW High Risk Work (HRW) license (LF). Three days face-to-face, including both theory and practical assessments. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Participants MUST be 18 years or older to participate in this course. Participants MUST provide documents of identity that add up to 100 points on the day of assessment. These documents should be the same documents that you will provide to the Australia Post Customer Service Officer as evidence of identity when you lodge your application. A detailed list of the POI requirements will be made available to the participant upon registration into the course. The course fee does not include the Application Fee for the high risk licence. The cost for the licence is approximately $ If the participant requires a verbal assessment, this must be specified at the time of registration. A verbal assessment will incur an additional fee of $180. Statement of Attainment IN FRONTEND LOADER OPERATIONS This unit teaches the skills and knowledge required to conduct civil construction wheeled front end loader operations. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles. Where equipment being assessed requires the fitting and removal of attachments to be demonstrated, an integrated tool carrier unit should be used. 11 TRACTOR OPERATIONS AHCMOM202 Operate Tractors This unit covers the process of operating tractors with or without attached equipment, and defines the standard required to: carry out pre-operational checks and maintenance including tagging defects; set and secure attachments according to manufacturer s directions; operate a tractor in a safe and controlled manner; implement shut-down procedures; store machinery and equipment and record maintenance and operation details.
