The extract was analysed applying gas chromatography with subsequent mass spectroscopy of the individual fractions. No extractable substances could be detected. Additionally, the absence of leachables was confirmed using 10 % DMSO in water as eluent (not shown). Long term cryo storage Cryo.s were subjected to multiple long-term storage tests and are approved for cryogenic storage temperatures of -80 C and -196 C (LN2 vapor phase). The specific Cryo.s TM tube and screw cap design, combined with silicone gasket, facilitate resistance to rapid temperature changes and exposure to ultra-low temperatures without breakage or leakage. 96 way Cryo.s are height-optimised, yet feature an 0.8 mm thick wall. 30 years of experience have proven this minimum wall thickness provides secure storage of aqueous samples without diffusion and evaporation through the tube wall. Readability of each code is guaranteed and verified according to the AIM standards for direct part marking. Datamatrix codes on Cryo.s are laserengraved, yielding a very durable tube identifier with the code completely integrated within the tube. Applied datamatrix codes are resistant to chemicals used for disinfection, cleaning or sample preservation in the context of cryo storage such as isopropanol (70 % / 100 %), ethanol (70 % / 100 %) and DMSO (10 % / 100 %). Codes were partially damaged using a hot stamp and readability was assessed. Partially damaged codes remained readable. Cryo.s may be ordered off-the shelf with pre-defined unique datamatrix codes or on a customised basis per customer specification. The required alpha-numeric or numeric sequence for custom codes are specified by means of a specialised form to accompany the order (for more details please refer to chapter Ordering Information ). Each datamatrix symbol is checked for uniqueness against a database containing all previously produced codes.

6 Automation compatibility Cryo.s with datamatrix and accessory storage racks (Figure 3) are optimised for automated laboratory equipment such as decappers, liquid handling systems and automated storage systems. Greiner Bio-One recommends closing 96 way Cryo.s with the automated LabElite I.D. Capper or LabElite DeCapper from Hamilton Bonaduz AG at 7 Ncm. For manual contamination-free application, removal of screw caps and for manual picking of individual tubes from rack, a manual tool is available (shown to the right) and contained in each box.
