1 OCEAN TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY GUIDE TO MAY Freight Receipt and Invoice (Ocean) FUNCTIONAL GROUP ID = IO This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Freight Receipt and Invoice (Ocean) Transaction Set (310) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used to provide ocean bill of lading information. It is sent by ocean carriers to interested parties and can be used as the receipt for the shipment; to substitute for a paper bill of lading where the parties have agreed that a paper bill of lading is not necessary; to allow shipper or forwarder to verify bill of lading information before an original is printed and released; for information purposes, i.e., as a bill of lading copy; by the carrier to convey manifest information to a terminal operator; and as an invoice for freight. This transaction set is sent by the carrier to a port authority or marine terminal. It provides all selected information traditionally presented on a paper manifest and can be used as a substitution for this manifest. Header REQ. PAGE # SEG. ID NAME ASC X12 REQ. It is recommended that codes be used where possible. City text names, state/province codes and ISO country codes should be sent with all locations as they are more reliable for locations qualified by R and E. Operational locations are needed to determine which Ocean tariff applies to the cargo movement. Sometimes carriers provide several service possibilities at different rates. The correct rate can only be determined by knowing the expected load port at the time of booking. See general discussion on port function codes. M R Port or Terminal Function Code M ID 1/1 Code defining function performed at the port or terminal with respect to a shipment 31 See general discussion. 530 The minimum information is R and E.
