3 1 Chairman s Message It is my honour and great pleasure to report that the Logistics & Transportation (LT) Division has been officially launched in Session /. By now, we have over 300 members in our LT Division which is one of the fast growing divisions in HKIE. In the past year, we have successfully organised a number of seminars, site visits, and social events. Some of these events were jointly organised with other divisions of HKIE (e.g. Civil Division), and other institutions such as the Hong Kong Polytechnic Universities and Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies etc. All of these events have been well received by our fellow engineers in the field. In particular, we have organised the Inaugural Conference cum Dinner on 6th March. This is an inaugural event for our Logistics and Transportation Division. In the Conference with about 200 participants, we have heard from a number of excellent speakers, all experts in the fields, including our keynote speaker, Hon. Ir Frankie Chi-Ming Yick, Legislative Councilor, the Hong Kong SAR Government, to provide deepen insights on the contribution of Hong Kong logistics and transportation engineers in innovation and development for the industry and to discuss what challenges lie ahead and how our engineering profession may gear itself to meet these challenges. In the evening dinner, we were very pleased to have the President of HKIE, Ir Victor Cheung to present the Opening Address, and our Guest of Honour, Secretary for Transport and Housing, Prof. Anthony Cheung, who have shared their vision and views in our engineering profession and local industry. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the committee members of the Logistics and Transportation Division and give thanks to those who have contributed so much to make all these events such a success. I cordially invite you to join our Division and make your contribution to logistics and transportation engineering professional development in Hong Kong and in the region. Look forward to your support and participation in the Session /16. Ir Professor William LAM Hing Keung Chairman, Session / Logistics and Transportation Division Page 3
