2/9.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum requirements to properly identify and highlight: ) Areas requiring identification as an Access Point 2) Areas requiring identification as a Potential Safety Hazard 3) Areas requiring identification as a Safety Device 4) Areas requiring identification as a Maintenance Location 5) Areas requiring identification for Operator information 2.0 APPLICATION This specification, applies at any Vale locations indicated with approval on the cover page, with the following exceptions: 2. EXCEPTIONS None. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTATION The following documents were used in the development of this document or have instructions and procedures applicable to it. They shall be used in their most recent revision. N/A 4.0 CONTEXT Due to the wide variety of mobile equipment utilized there are often differences in the location of handhold points accessed by operators and trades people to either mount or dismount machines. Additionally a number of safety devices, potential safety hazards, or maintenance related features might require highlighting to ensure they are readily recognized. Therefore a standardized format for identifying these locations through the use of labels, contrasting paint colours, or other materials has been devised. 5.0 QUANTITY Identify all areas that need to be labeled and/or highlighted:

3/9 Grab handles and steps required to meet 3-point contact mounting and dismounting criteria used in conjunction with the SAE J85 standard. o All areas where personnel require access for operating, moving about the machine or conducting maintenance and repair. Emergency exit (alternate egress system) pull pins or window punch-out locations. o All pull pins / rings requiring details on proper usage. o All window punch-outs requiring details on proper usage. Equipment identification. o All equipment requires unit identification numbers. Hot mechanical component / machine surfaces. o Exposed hot surfaces where a person needs to access that immediate area with the machine running or immediately after stopping the machine to check fluids, top up fluids, or make adjustments. Potential safety hazards. o Pinch Point or Crush Zone locations such as steering articulation points, boom swing locations, pressure vents, etc. o All potential safety hazards that personnel may come in contact with during operation or maintenance. Safety devices used to prevent inadvertent movement or to mechanically connect to the machine. o Steering articulation locks, boom swing / lift locks, power lockouts, wheel chock brackets etc. o Towing points, sling anchors, etc. Connection points used as stored energy drains, remote power source input etc. Maintenance locations such as fluid fill points, lubrication points, routine adjustments, pressure test ports, oil sample ports, etc. Machine controls / information. Usage labels such as maximum load, maximum speed (gear selection and/or km/hr), and/or maximum capacity (passengers, etc). Operator / Maintenance information storage location.

4/9 6.0 QUALITY 6. ACHIEVE PROPER IDENTIFICATION 6.. Access point Grab handles and Steps Mine Safety Green paint will be used for all access points. Steps, platforms, and walkways will have approved surface friction enhancing material applied to surface prior to green marking. Reflective tape will not be used on grab handles unless it meets specified construction and performance criteria (see below) Emergency exit (alternate egress system) All emergency exit pull pins / rings and or punch-outs will be clearly labeled as to their operation Potential Safety Hazards, Pinch Point or Crush Zone protection All potential safety hazards to be highlighted with red markings. Pinch points or crush zones will be labeled with approved labels (see table). A warning label will be placed on each side and each section of a potential pinch point (i.e. a centre steering articulation joint will have 2 labels X 2 sides) 6..4 Equipment identification numbers Use the assigned number / letter combination. Install in 2 places Left side and right side of unit. Identification numbers to be in a contrasting colour to machine 6..5 Safety Devices Will be highlighted with red markings and a correct usage information label will be provided near by unless procedure is obvious.

5/ Connection points Remote connection points for stored energy drains, remote power sources, etc will be highlighted with red markings and labeled Maintenance Locations All daily or routine maintenance locations are to be labeled All fluid fill / lubrication points will be clearly marked indicating type and/or grade of product. Warning labels to be provided for fluid fill points as required indicating applicable vent procedures prior to removing fill cap, filling procedures, fluid level check procedures, etc. Manual venting points to be highlighted in red. All central lubrication points / reservoir fill points are to be labeled indicating product to be used and highlighted in red. All individual daily lubrication points are to be highlighted in red. All main fluid drain points are to be highlighted in red and labeled if not obvious as to function. Accumulators to be guarded and labeled as to function and pre-charge settings. Routine lifting points that are attached to a weldment shall be painted red. All other lifting points will be referred to in the equipment service manual. Hood prop-rods to be painted red. All pressure test points and oil sample points will be highlighted in red and labeled indicating function. Wheel fastener tag - Refer to Equipment Standard Surface Wheels, Tires, and Fasteners for content Machine controls, gauges, indicator lights, meters, warning buzzers / horns, or other similar devices to be labelled using English text. Additional identification with standard universally recognized graphics is acceptable.

6/9 Identification using only standard universally recognized graphics may be permitted where space constraints would permit legible labels to be applied Usage labels Maximum vehicle capacity. licable for vehicles where product(s) carried varies i.e. scissor lifts, crane trucks, forklifts, etc Operator information storage location Storage location for copies of manuals and pre-check sheets. Container to be dust proof / waterproof as applicable for enclosed / open operator compartment. Storage location to be clearly identified and easily accessible. 6.2 PRODUCT PERFORMANCE CRITERIA FOR LABELS AND IDENTIFICATION MARKINGS Shall make personnel aware of potential hazard. Shall not assist in the creation of a new hazard (i.e. grab handle markings will not reduce friction characteristics or cause sharp edges if they deteriorate). Shall have similar attributes to those used on other equipment by using industry standard colours, text and graphics. Shall be clearly visible and legible to an operator or to maintenance personnel. Product will be such that attachment, visibility, and legibility (overall durability): Shall withstand repeated normal wash down with a low-pressure (<00 psi) water hose. Shall withstand repeated indirect spray from high-pressure power washing. Shall withstand repeated exposure to standard cleaning agents and de-greasers used. Shall withstand repeated exposure to fuels and machine fluids used.

7/9 6.3 LABELLING CRITERIA Labels used to identify safety devices, safety instructions, or potentially dangerous locations shall be red with white text. Labels used to identify daily maintenance locations (fill point, lube points, etc) shall be red with white text. Labels used to identify components, adjustment procedures or settings, or provide general information shall be black with white text. Label and text size will be appropriate for the location and will be sufficient to allow for information to be legible in all lighting conditions. Weight capacity labels for scissor lifts, crane trucks, lifting booms, forklifts, etc. to be extra large and conspicuous to the operator. Typical Required Operation Related Labels: lication Location Description Label Colour Brake Label Operator compartment Daily Operator Pre-use Test Information Red with white text Control Labels Adjacent to each Text description of control associated control function Emergency Exit Label Adjacent to emergency Identification / Description of Red with white exit release emergency exit operation text Load / Speed / Capacity Label Operator Compartment.
