1 TOUCH IOT WITH SAP LEONARDO PROTOTYPE CHALLENGE IOT FOR EMREGENCY VEHICLES (TO MANAGE THEIR VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT SERVICE) BY ARUN SANTHANAM IoT for Emergency Vehicle IoT prototype challenge as part of Touch IoT with SAP Leonardo.

2 Story IoT on Emergency Vehicle My Aim I wanted to have an IoT based solution for Emergency vehicle (Ambulance to start with), which can be monitored by central office especially on the maintenance and overhaul part of it. Ambulance maintenance and repair is a very difficult task which needs a very high level of co-ordination as outage is not acceptable. Currently there are systems which can help track an ambulance movement in real-time through various telematics services. Therefore I m not going to talk about that, but I m going to focus on how to keep the emergency vehicle going with reduced downtime and provides maintenance visibility. My Target is to Achieve high Uptime through IoT Objective: To keep the emergency vehicle with a very high uptime and reduce the maintenance overhead. Where the Core problem is: statistically study that shows that Emergency vehicle downtime is high all over the world especially in developing countries it is even higher. The reason, they are not just a normal automobile alone; they are the carrier of sophisticated medical devices; these devices come with very high repair time as every component service is minute in nature. These factors delay the Emergency vehicle service maintenance. How to address this: The major problem with the Emergency vehicle maintenance is that, every time a vehicle is serviced it is services to full. Meaning, instead of doing a pointed service a complete service is executed which results in higher downtime and cost. To perform a pointed service, we need to have a visibility of what has gone wrong or which area in the emergency vehicle needs attention. This is where exactly I feel that IoT can be of great help. Target Users Command Centre for Ops. Mgmt Paramedic and drivers Centre for Emg. Vehicle mgmt Receive first-hand info through emergency call and pass on the same to respective Emergency vehicle. While driver focus on driving, paramedic to provide either First Aid or perform a procedure (if needed). This team will oversee all service related requirements for emergency vehicles. (Vehicles + medical equipment) Target Industries Healthcare owned either by government or public; it specially targets Maintenance and Repair scenario of Emergency vehicles. IoT has potential to increase uptime of vehicle and reduce the maintenance & repair time by a great extent. 2

3 Persona - Maintenance Engineer About Raman Verma Emergency Vehicle Maintenance Engineer I wanted to know what is going to fail and when (both vehicle and Equipment). I have a huge base of vehicles; therefore maintenance is really a daunting task. (User don t want to share his photo pubished) 45 yrs, very tall person, 15+ years of exp. in maintenance & repairs. Single point of contact for all emergency service maintenance and support pertaining to Chennai region Need to be on top of Vehicle maintenance information & history Liaison with various dept. like workshop engineer, medical equipment OEM etc. Responsibilities I m responsible to keep the Emergency vehicle available at all times. I m responsible to keep the vehicle in good condition. I m responsible to ensure the medical equipment works just perfect. Ensures services are done as per the preagreed standard operating procedure.. Main Goals Ensure No Emergency stand in middle of road while performing critical activities. Ensure back-up is provided in case of need. Ensure very less downtime for service and repairs. Needs Pain Points I wanted to know the latest and greatest status of Emergency vehicle and how it performs I need to know status of the medical equipment s like oxygen generator; ECG, Air conditioning system present inside the ambulance. I wanted to know the service history of the emergency vehicles. Huge time is invested in individually checking all emergency vehicles as they are large in nos. Since they are spread out for better coverage; inspection of vehicles becomes too tough Each vehicle will have 4 to 5 key medical components which need to be monitored. Every full cycle service (blanket service) increases the risk out outage by 20-30%. 3

4 As a _Emergency I need a way to know what is going to fail and when so that I can pro-actively fix the issue before it strikes.. I need a way to know what is the root cause for the issue so that i can perform a pointed service which saves lot of time and money. maintenance Engineer_ I need a way to keep the vehicle and medical equipment up and running without any fault. so that i can make emergency vehicle available at all times._ I need a way to contact the OEM s (vehicle + medical equipment) so that I can alert him and order for parts replacement.. I need a way to find out the service history of the vehicle + equipment_ I need a way to get advance notification on the services so that I can decide when to service what, and so on so that i can plan for alternates_. 4

OR B) What could be problem with Vehicle or Medical devices A) Is this person Communicating the exact issue that He / She face. A) Shucks!!! Last time only we fixed this issue. Why it is repeating. B) Can I see the service History for this vehicle or medical devices A) Hmm!! I have to place the order for this part. This order needs to exactly match the version.
