7 12 Case Study Case Study 13 Pen y Cymoedd, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Neath Talbot Keeping Britain Trading The Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project is a 76 wind turbine development located within Rhondda Cynon Taf and Neath Talbot in South Wales. The project is being developed by Vattenfall on land managed by Natural Resources Wales. Once operational, the project will generate enough electricity to annually meet the domestic needs of 140,000 homes and will hold the title of being Wales largest onshore wind farm. All of the components for the project were unloaded from vessels berthed at ABP Swansea. Between autumn 2015 and autumn 2016, the port handled and stored over 600 individual wind turbine components from 15 different vessels. ABP South Wales was able to offer the Pen y Cymoedd project a bespoke service that meant all port-related requirements were met. ABP South Wales has significant experience with heavy-lift and project cargoes which allows quayside operations to run smoothly and efficiently. A vast land bank allows the ports to accommodate storage requirements, and strong links with third party suppliers consistently result in a complete service being offered to customers in order to meet their needs. Travis Perkins, Cardiff A new 7,820 sq m distribution centre opened in December The facility is one of four Range Centres across the country; supplying hundreds of local Travis Perkins branches to ensure that customers have immediate access to a wider range of stock.
