1 Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Human Resources Department 375 Via Almar Palos Verdes Estates, CA (310) Classified Employee Material Support Technician JOB DESCRIPTION Supervisor Director of Purchasing Work Year 12 Months Salary Range 18 DEFINITION Under general supervision, to drive a District vehicle in the pickup and delivery of office and instructional materials, mail custodial supplies, and other items to schools, cafeterias, and offices; to check in and sort incoming mail for distribution; to process and deliver outgoing mail; plus inventory and computer systems; and to perform related work as required. Training & Experience Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated on this job description and the ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is experience in warehousing and/or delivery driving. One year of responsible delivery experience involving the use of a light and/or medium delivery vehicle is preferred. Experience in a public agency is preferred. Qualifications High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalency. Must pass a baseline physical examination prior to the first day of employment. Knowledge of: Basic record keeping methods applicable to storekeeping; Geography of the school district; determine and evaluate the best driving route for the specific time schedule; Traffic and safety laws and safe driving techniques; Proper lifting techniques and methods; Routine delivery practices; Basic math; Basic English usage and literacy;; Appropriate safety precautions and procedures; Possession of a current California State Class III Driver s License, good driving record, and proof of insurance.

2 Major Duties & Responsibilities Loads, uploads, and unpacks materials, equipment, and supplies from delivery truck; operates a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment to store food, deliver warehouse supplies and deliver and pick up hot and cold carts on a specific time schedule. Pull food, supplies, and equipment to fill orders and pack and warp materials for delivery. Deliver, pick up, processes, organizes, sorts, weighs, packages, meters and records postage and distributes District and US mail. Pick up food service money, daily cash receipts, invoices, completed forms, miscellaneous paperwork, a/v materials, etc., at school sites and deliver to food service office and central kitchen; take deliveries to District office daily. Maintains records of deliveries from central warehouse which require signatures; completes and maintains necessary forms for UPS shipping, warehouse orders and purchase orders; makes entries on delivery slips. Perform daily safety inspection of vehicles and operate vehicle to and from school sites, public office and vendor locations obeying traffic laws and observing defensive driving practices; fuel vehicles. Notifies supervisor of any problems; performs preventative maintenance and maintains vehicle cleanliness. Fill stock requisitions, complete food service orders, and complete related reports. Receive supplies from trucking companies and store in warehouse. Communicate with supervisor about daily duties. Load, unload, transport, and move furniture and equipment. Assist with heavy loads as required. Deliver food and supplies each day to Preschool programs (MELA & VELA). Re-stage and store high order items, such as textbooks and school supplies to meet overflow demand needs during the school year. Transport canned good, food and supplies from satellite storage to central kitchen. Deliver transfers from central kitchen and various sites to other sites. Every morning report to central kitchen to load food carts and deliver food to all elementary sites between 9:00 and 11:00 am. Every afternoon pick up carts and return to central kitchen by 2:30 pm. Maintain and monitor the food service inventory at the central warehouse. Refill all propane tanks and move barbeques as needed. Pickup, transport and deliver box/sack lunches, supplies, paper goods and other items as necessary to assigned satellite locations. Maintain complete warehouse database on a computer workstation related to inventory and requisition process. Perform related work as assigned by supervisor Ability to: Perform varied storekeeping duties in the receipt and distribution of supplies, equipment, furniture, and food stuffs; Follow routes and maps to various locations;

3 Operate a light truck and/or medium duty delivery truck, observing legal and defensive driving practices; Keep records connected with mail processing duties; Learn and apply applicable postal regulations; Properly operate a forklift, hand truck, and dollies; Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Speak English at a conversational level and demonstrate basic literacy in English; Obtain and maintain in current status the licenses and certificates listed on the class specification; Participate in employer mandated training and re-training programs; Comply with rules and regulations of the Classified Service, Policies/Regulations of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, and provisions of collective bargaining agreements. Training & Experience Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated on this job description and the ability to perform the duties of the position. Conduct periodic physical inventories. Communicate with school sites and vendors. After administration of the exams, coordinate with the drivers and principals to pick up testing materials. Re-inventory boxes and affix UPS label to each and arrange for the freight company for pick up before deadline. Assist and facilitate for smooth operation of surplus sales (obsolete books, computers, equipment, etc.). Contact vendors, buyers, and supervisors to transfer assets to the winning bid. Sign documentation, forward to proper department heads and load all surplus material into vendor trucks.

7 Coordinate with summer school principals the timely delivery of books, office supplies, files and storage cabinets to the corresponding sites. After summer session make arrangements for pick-up of supplies and storage in the warehouse. Coordinate with the technology Department to securely deliver computer equipment to different sites as requested. Accurately log pertinent information and affix security labels to equipment. Have good working knowledge of the books adopted by the District and quickly determine if it is in stock or if the Curriculum department needs to order for school sites. Work closely with school site staff to facilitate the process. Maintains records of deliveries from central warehouse which require signatures; completes and maintains necessary forms for UPS shipping, warehouse orders and purchase orders; makes entries on delivery slips. Completes, maintains, reviews, and updates relevant records, files, lists, logs, forms, and other documentation; accurately enters data into computer system.
