Getting Ready to Start Starting out is the hardest part of being a consignor for JBF. Once you have mastered the practice of being quick and efficient consigning will be easy! Place a tub or box in the closet, throughout the year add items that no longer fit or are played with. Get the kids involved, offer them a percentage of the money if the items they choose to give up sells. Don t wait until the last minute to get started, get the most out of your items by putting time and care into the process! Prep and tag as you go. If you don t wait until the last minute, you will be surprised at how little time it takes to get ready for drop-off. Resources are available! Check out our videos, groups and JBF 101s! No time to tag? Check out our Valet tagging services! How to be a Successful Consignor Anyone can be a successful consignor, but not everyone is a successful consignor. To get the most out of your time and energy, it is beneficial for you to be successful. Be selective with the items you consign - only bring your best. We inspect items to benefit you and all of our shoppers we have a reputation of offering the best and we want to keep that standard at all of our events. Try to bring at least a few big ticket items. Items that always sell are pack- n- plays, cribs, exersaucers, and large or outdoor toys. Price to sell. If you don t sell as many items as you had hoped, look over your tags and consider the pricing. Were the items priced too high for the brand/condition? Look around at other similar sale items and see what they are priced if it s a good deal, people will buy it. Reduce your items, especially clothing and small toys. You might want to raise your original price a little and let it go for half price. That way, if it sells for full price, it will be more than you expected. If people feel a sense of urgency, they are more likely going to buy your item. Pick up items to resell at clearance and garage sales. There are many JBF consignors nationwide who make $5,000-$10,000/sale by purchasing new/like new items at a significantly reduced price and then consigning the items at JBF. A bargain is a bargain and this is a great way to make some extra spending money without investing a great deal of time or family funds. Don t bring an item back more than three times, and without reducing the price each time. If your item did not sell the first time there is a reason and you should figure out what it is that caused you to miss out on the money! Separate batches of items into piles: JBF Spring/Summer JBF Fall/Winter Donates Trash Get the donates and trash out quick! Use large trash bags, tubs or boxes to store separated items. They take up less space, are easy to stack and you can easily open and close them. Gather supplies so you have them in one place and are ready to tag. Hangers Safety Pins Ribbon & Zip-ties Scissors & Tape White cardstock (65#) Ziploc bags in various sizes. First time using the tagging site? Start by entering 6-12 items like books, toys and games to get used to how it works. Enter, save then print. Verify your preferences are correct -- reduce? donate? Then attach the appropriate tag to your item. YOU DID IT! Follow "5 & 15 minutes" first then start with a small pile you can get through in 30 minutes. Separate clothes by size & gender. As you go, doublecheck to make sure clothing items do not have stains, rips, missing buttons or holes. Prep the shoes! They must be near perfect! Scuffed toes are not accepted. Wash off dirt and clean the velcro. Toss clothes in the dryer with a fabric sheet to freshen them up and remove wrinkles. Toys with various sized pieces: place small parts in ziploc bags taped closed and attached to larger part of toy. Toys with multiple pieces: gather together in ziploc bags and tape shut to make sure pieces stay together. Hang clothes on hangers with the hook facing open to the left (like a?) Safety pin multiple pieces together. Tag clothes in batches so that you have a batch done from start to finish! Then sort the clothes by size and store safe until drop-off. Make it a game with the kids! Have them gather up all the toys that they no longer play with and tell you what they'd like to spend their earned money on! Inspect items in different kinds of lighting to make sure there aren't any stains hiding. Clip loose threads, check buttons and zippers. Look for stains on the sleeves, the button holes of sleepers and collars. Taking time to prep your items properly pays back in higher sales! Have a prepping party! Grab a JBF friend and tackle each other s stuff together! When you get ready to tag toys, try to do it when the kiddos aren't around. Nothing worse than having items tagged to sell only to have them fallen in love with all over again... ack! If you have items which do not meet the $2 minimum selling price, pair or package it with other lower cost items to reach that minimum. Still need help with pricing? Check out our helpful pricing guidelines online (under "sell tab"). Login to your JBF profile and click on "Enter my tags" at the top. Set up your tag preference. Donate all items or not Season box Reduce price or not Print tag setup for 9 tags per page. Be sure it's set to landscape. TOYS SELL! Tag your toys first when possible. Since I keep everything in my garage many times I'll take a picture with my phone and look at it while I'm entering tags. It beats having to haul it back inside! It doesn't hurt to hang a little air freshener in the closet with your clothes to keep them smelling fresh, you can also place a dryer sheet in the box or tub. Save often and print in small batches! Print tags 9 tags per page. They are easier to handle and saves ink. Get help on our JBF Reno Consignors Facebook group or JBF How-To-Videos! We are all here to help each other out. Smaller pieces should be bagged and taped or zip tied to the larger part of the toy. Group sets in a Ziploc bag. Remember that it must be kid or family friendly. Check all books for torn pages, scribbles and worn bindings. Use saran wrap to group or secure books, puzzles, and games. Use a magic eraser and baby wipes to clean dirt, scuffs or marks off large furniture, toys or baby equipment. To clean play pens and umbrella strollers fill the tub with hot water. Poor in a cup of vinegar, a cup of backing soda, and a cup of laundry detergent. Swish around and let sit for an hour. Hose off out back when done. Let dry. Use a fabric deodorizer on all fabric to give it a fresh scent. Hair Accessories should be on an index card in a Ziploc bag. When preparing socks, lay flat in ziploc bags, check each sock for holes or stains. Group socks together in large groups (sized) for bestselling results. For shoes use a fork, safety pin or brush to clean Velcro. Use a zip tie to attach shoes together securely if there is no way to attach place in a bag. Diaper bags, Baby slings and carriers should be zip tied to a hanger. Make sure the long straps are pinned up. Hang the sling on the hanger as if it were your shoulders. Feeding Items such as bottles and sippy cups always sell better in sets. If nipples are used it must be stated on the tag. Items must be free of scratches, marks and stains. We have 2,500 shoppers in the span of 4 days! All of our admission fees are donated to The Women and Children s Center of the Sierra (WACCS).

Preparing Your Clothes to Sell Maternity clothing should be on adult hangers, avoid wire hangers when possible. Bras and belly wraps should be placed in a ziploc bag. Verify your items are free of tears, stains and holes and wash all items. As you sort clothes by size and season, check again for tears, stains and holes. Group clothes into sets, pair up pants with shirts that match or two shirts. Try only bringing season appropriate clothing to each sale. Check your items for stains in a well-lit room, working late at night may hide stain. When hanging, all hangers must face like a? (question mark). Safety pin the heavier item of a set to the hanger, then the lighter item to the heavier item. This will prevent it from stretching the material of the clothes. Pin the pants to the TOP ANGLED PART of the hanger, not the bottom straight edge. Use LARGE safety pins to attach pants. When hanging two pairs of pants or shorts, hold the pants back to back and slip the hanger in between. Use a LARGE safety pin to pin through both pairs of pants and the top angled part of the hanger so both pieces can be viewed without unpinning them. Pair up to 5 onesies in a set. Hang one of the onesies on a child size hanger. Arrange the other pieces in a pile and use a LARGE safety pin to pin them to the back of the hanging onesie, going through the top angled part of the hanger. Do not pin the clothing through the front or it may not be accepted. Do not pin items to the bottom of a shirt, or jacket. Always pin to the top part of the hanger. Tagging guns can make this easier, but be sure to go through a seam. Consignor Referral Programs There is no better way to sell your stuff than to tell others about our sale event. The more people who know the more people will come to shop and that means more money in your pocket! Anyone who refers at least 5 brand new consignors who each sells 50 items at our sale will receive a 10% bonus on their sales! New consignors must note referred by on sign up to qualify. Shopper referral cards are available to all consignors. We will ship you 10 referral cards a couple weeks before the sale. If you need more, you just let us know and we will meet you somewhere to give you more! You simply put your name on the card and if your friend brings it back then we will pay you $1! ($1 for each one up to $20!) Consignor Tip: Tag all of your other items before starting your clothes. You can get more bang for your buck with your toys, baby equipment, furniture and infant items. If you tag your clothes first, you may run out of time and find yourself not bringing home as big of a check that you could have if you had tagged your items first.

The goal is to price so that shoppers know they are getting a great deal. Allowing your item to be sold 50% off on Sunday is highly encouraged! Shoppers are looking for half-price items on Sunday. ** This is only for reference, if you have any questions please reno@jbfsale.com. Attach JBF tag with scotch tape (do not tape directly on item surface if removing tape will cause damage). Using painters tape allows tagging without damaging the item. The goal is to keep tags attached without damaging the item (items without tags will not be sold). For large items with multiples pieces Examples of multiple sets: a table and 4 kid chairs, a Little Tykes play set with 3 pieces or a car seat with an extra base, a stroller with a car seat. DO NOT PLACE TAGS ON LARGE ITEMS UNTIL DROPOFF! Make a tag on each piece. The first tag will be your normal barcode tag with all of the necessary information but also write "1 of X", (X is the number of pieces). Write this "1 of X" directly onto the tag below the barcode. For all other pieces of the set, use cardstock to write your consignor number, the description, and "2 of X", "3 of X" etc. on subsequent pieces, these will NOT get a separate claim ticket. Put the barcode & price on the first tag ONLY. Please do not put the price on any other tags. Only use multiple tags for items that belong together and may become separated. Do not use multiple tags for clothing items. Claim Ticket Process All Consignors will be responsible for attaching claim tickets to their large items at drop-off. These tickets will enable our shoppers to purchase your items quicker and easier! Do not attach tags to any of your large items while tagging. Grab an envelope and put all your large item tags inside so you don t lose them. At Drop-off (after item has been inspected) you will cut your tag on the dotted line. You will attach the top and bottom half of the tag as shown. You will then attach the claim ticket to your item. Items with Claim tickets may be placed on the floor.

Entering Your Items All items must be tagged using our online tagging system: Myjbftags.com. Once a tag is printed, price, options and info cannot be changed without a new tag being printed. Hand written changes will not be honored at the sale. Recalled Items will not be accepted. Check WeMakeItSafer.com for more details on the most common recalls. Use detailed descriptions on tags so that lost tags can be matched back with the item. Ex: "gymboree red shirt with ice cream cone" is better than "red shirt"! Do NOT mix sizes. Verify your size is correct when you enter your tag. You may change user defaults under My Profile to donate or reduce on all tags. You may choose to donate and reduce all of your items, or change each item individually. Sort your items by gender and size before entering and use the Rapid Entry option for quicker entry. Pricing Your Items to Sell Consignors price their own items but remember that the way you price your items will influence how our shoppers feel about our sale events. If you find that many of your items did not sell, often times, pricing is the culprit. Check out our consignor group, Reno pricing guide or reno@jbfsale.com if you are unsure. Pricing throughout the sale impacts all consignors. The reputation of our sale depends on great quality and great prices, if something is extremely overpriced it does not help bring customers in. We don t make money unless you make money. We are here to help you succeed. o A few rules: use only 50 increments, (items cannot be priced $2.99 etc). All hanging clothes have a $3 minimum. Items must be priced no more than 1/3 to 1/4 of the original price. Sets sell better, bunch sets of three shirts for $5 instead of doing each shirt for $3. If you chose to reduce your item no star will be printed on the tag. During our half price portion of the sale, this item will be available for sale at half of your set price. Be selective on what you do not reduce. Items with no stars tend to sell better throughout the entire sale, even full price days. If you are going to donate your items, please select them to reduce no matter what. Setting items to reduce and donate also gives you an opportunity to earn money last minute at the 75% off sale for our volunteers who break down. Feel free to post on the JBF Reno Consignors group on Facebook. This group is for JBF friends to share tagging tips, ask questions, and get quick advice.

Printing Your Tags Before printing, sort your items by price to ensure you did not accidently enter an extra 0. ($400 instead of $4.00) If printing with a laser printer be sure to select heavy paper or the ink may smear and the tag may scan improperly. Tags must be printed on white or very light-colored cardstock. Paper tags will be rejected. (65#) Avoid using Chrome to print tags, Mozilla Firefox is best. If at any time you have issues with the system do not panic, please us! Save paper and ink by printing tags via the PDF option (prints 9 tags) Be sure that your printer setting is set for landscape, if you do not change this the tags will print smaller than allowed. Tagging Your Items Tags must be located to the upper right shoulder area of a shirt or upper right front hip of pants. Please tag through seams or the inside tag on clothes, avoid making a hole on the clothing item. Do not tag over labels, stickers or decals. Do not use box tape or hard to remove tape on books or puzzles. Painters tape works best. When using zip ties, place a piece of tape before you put a hole in it so that the paper is reinforced. Gently tug tag to make sure it is properly secured, tape over the hole and tagging barb/safety pin if necessary. Please Note: Clothes that have a hole because of an improperly placed tag may not be accepted. Preparing your items (and yourself) for Drop-off JBF saves you time and money by accepting only high quality items that follow our guidelines. Please do not be offended if your item is not accepted. The lighting is different at the events center than it will be in your home. Be sure to go over our general guidelines, all items will be inspected top to bottom. These tips will make your drop-off easier: Before drop-off: Sort all clothes by size and gender before arrival. Box like items together (Bottles, books, shoes with shoes). Double check all items for stains, rips and tears in a different light than in which you tagged. Do NOT attach tags to large items. All large item tags will need to be attached to a claim ticket at drop-off. Our Responsibility to You Provide the BEST experience for you as a consignor. Do everything we can to provide people to buy your items. Be honest, up front and realistic to those consigning. Respect that it takes you time, energy and effort to consign your items. Provide you with support and communication in a timely manner.

What to Expect During Drop-off We do a full inspection at time of drop-off. This is time consuming, and we apologize for that. However, we feel it is important that we maintain our standards. Please read below how our process will work. Drop-off in 5 Easy Steps: 1. Check-in: You will be met by someone who will check you in. If you don t have your consignor, crib or car seat waivers, don t worry, we will have them for you to fill out. Your Inspector will give you details on our procedure at that time. 2. Unload: After check-in you will be assigned an inspector, the you will unload your large items fist. A limited number of rolling racks are available but feel free to bring a wagon or cart. There may be volunteers available to help unload, please ask if you need help. 3. Large Item Check: You must put together all large items at drop-off (playpen, inflatables etc.). Your inspector will begin with the large items and once they have been checked you will be required to attach your tag to the claim ticket. Instructions will be provided and you will need to attach the claim tickets to the items. 4. Clothing and Small Items: After you have brought in your large items and while they are being inspected, you can bring in the remaining items you have. The Inspectors will go over those items as well. You are not responsible for putting them out on the floor, unless you are a Perfect Consignor, but do wait around for any items that were not accepted. You have the option of fixing those items and bringing them back to the second drop off on Friday. 5. Check-out: Once all of your items have been inspected and any unaccepted items have been scanned into our database, you may proceed to the check-out table. At the check-out table your items that do not pass the inspection will be returned to you to take home. Please remember to sign up for volunteer shifts, if you haven t already, so you can earn the extra 10% on your items and shop earlier. There will be a list of available shifts for you to choose from. You will also receive your presale passes at that time. It is best if you leave children at home for drop-off, if you have no choice children must remain with you at all times, no exceptions. Please do not allow them to play with toys. Wait, so what about inspection? Don t worry, we are still going to inspect your stuff, quality is important to us. Please know it is nothing personal when some of your items are not accepted. To help you get in and out quicker, we will take care of putting it out on the floor for you. So what does this mean for you? Drop-off times are greatly reduced and you will get in and out quicker. Large items that are not accepted will be returned to you before you leave drop-off. Other items that do not pass inspection will be returned to you immediately, this way you have the opportunity to fix whatever is wrong with them and possibly bring them back on Friday at our second drop-off. If you have no more than 3 unaccepted items that are pulled during inspection or from the floor during the sale, you will be put on our Perfect Consignor list for our next event. That means you won t have to go through inspection next time.

Presales and How to Get a Pass Presale passes will be available during drop-off. Don t forget to stop by the check-out table when you leave. You will be responsible for bringing your pass to the presale to get in. Consignors shop after our volunteers, but before our public presales. Help us out and get in earlier. Presale Rules: Children are welcome, BUT MUST REMAIN WITH YOU, AT ALL TIMES. Only our volunteers are permitted to have guests. One pass per person, entry will not be allowed without a pass (no exceptions).

Joining Our Team Earns You More Without our team, we would not be able to run our event to sell your items. Aside from shopping earlier if you join our team, you will also earn more on your sales. We have provided several options to give you the opportunity to become a team member. We have some 2-hour volunteer shifts available, you may choose to work one 2- hour shift, or more (however, these are meant for nursing mothers, so if you don t have that requirement, please don t take these shifts). We also have 4- hour shifts and if our schedule doesn t work, let us know when you can volunteer and we will figure it out! o Volunteers who work 2-hours are qualified for 60% of their sales. o Volunteers who work 4-hours (or more) are qualified for 70% of their sales.
