Course Overview This course is an analysis of logistics activities, distribution network alternatives, and customer service aspects; examination of freight traffic functions within the firm s logistics system, analysis of rate and classification systems and carrier selection; evaluation of logistics procedures and strategies and their appropriateness to different industries. Pre-Requisites SCMS 2610 Required Texts Bowersox, Closs, Cooper, and Bowersox: Supply Chain Logistics Management, 4 th Edition p. 1

2 Related Materials Other readings and materials will be distributed as appropriate Location of Course Materials: The textbook is available in the campus bookstore, and other materials will be distributed in class or through e Courseware Course Objectives: 1. Accurately define the terms supply chain, logistics, and transportation. 2. Understand the components of the supply chain including, but not necessarily limited to, procurement, customer service, warehousing, inventory management, transportation, order processing, site selection, reverse logistics, and logistics service providers. 3. Our working definition of supply chain management will be all activities associated with the flow and transformation of goods from the raw material stage to the end user, as well as the associated information flows. 5 Final Exam Schedule The final exam for this class will be scheduled according to the Registrar s academic calendar website, and with certain pre-announced exceptions, will cover only the material covered after Exam # 2. Course Policies All students will be required to maintain their University of Memphis (@memphis.edu) account. You will receive all official course correspondence through this account, or e Courseware. Any inability to receive e mail in a timely fashion will be the responsibility of the student. Attendance Students are expected to attend class and participate in the discussions. Academic Integrity The University of Memphis has clear codes regarding cheating and classroom misconduct.
