5 Overall aim of the Motorway of the Sea s project Rostock - Hanko provision of adequate port infrastructures (berths; storage and handling capacity) Port of Rostock (DE) Adaptation of two existing berths according to new ship dimensions Reconstruction / Enlargement of terminal areas for unaccompanied trailers and similar transport units Development / Construction of new terminal areas for unaccompanied trailers and similar transport units Port of Hanko (FI) Reconstruction of terminal access areas in the Western harbour Reconstruction / Enlargement of terminal areas for unaccompanied trailers and similar transport units, including claiming of land Improvement of IT solutions to ease and optimize the transport chains (tracking and tracing)

6 Technical background of the project - Ship lengthening by Finnlines Lengthening of six ro/ro vessels 218m in length new capacity: 4,200 lane meters (+1,000 lane meters or +30%) Fitting with exhaust gas scrubbers to improve environmental impact
