1 Press release 2015 financial year: cargo transported via inland waterway grows 7.8% to 290,125 t bayernhafen Passau excels with environmentally friendly transport modes of inland waterway and rail Passau, 18 March 2016 bayernhafen Passau, along with Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth and Regensburg, one of the six bayernhafen Gruppe port locations, recorded a growth in goods moved by the environmentally friendly transport modes of inland waterway and rail in 2015, with the 290,125 tonnes moved by inland waterway representing a 7.8% increase on 2014; rail freight handling increased significantly by 29,398 to 32,623 tonnes. This results in cumulative freight transferred by rail and inland waterway of 322,748 tonnes, up 18.5% on Inland waterway cargo handling continues to be dominated by human food and animal feed and agricultural and forestry produce with a combined total of approximately 187,000 tonnes, followed by fertilisers at around 35,000 tonnes. Likewise coming in at around 35,000 tonnes was the minerals and earths freight class, which also includes de-icing salt that is delivered by river barge and temporarily stored in storage depots in bayernhafen Passau. In 2015, large quantities of construction materials for renewing rail track at the Deutsche Bahn railway station of Schalding were moved by rail. Scheduled ro-ro service links Passau to Bulgaria Since July 2015, a new scheduled ro-ro service has been in operation on the Danube between bayernhafen Passau via Enns in Austria to Vidin and Ruse in Bulgaria. The service is operated by Donau Star BG EOOD. All types of rolling equipment are transported, in particular oversized and heavy-lift freight, such as parts for wind turbines destined for onward transport to Turkey. The ro-ro service operates under the name of STAR LINES. Depending on the requirements of the customer and the volumes transported, it is possible to call at all ro-ro-ready Danube ports along the route. Gateway to the world for Bavarian machinery construction bayernhafen Passau acts as the gateway to the world for Bavarian plant manufacturers. For example, the technology group, The Linde Group, uses bayernhafen Passau to load its machinery onto river barge, where it is transported to the seaports and then by cargo ship on to destinations around the globe. Modal shift in long-distance freight transport is one of bayernhafen Gruppe s primary goals. Key to achieving this goal are ports with excellent transport connections that enable intelligent interlinking of the three transport modes in the transport chain: road, rail and inland waterway. The transport performance of the individual transport modes is reflected in tonne kilometres. For inland shipping, this amounted to around 176 million tonne kilometres in Passau in The average transport distance for river barges was 605 km. According to information provided by the Research Information System of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), in 2013, freight was transported an average of 263 kilometres by river barge, 303 kilometres by rail, and by road, which in particular handles the initial and last mile legs, only 97 kilometres. Dieter Haack, the Branch Manager of bayernhafen Passau, is convinced of the advantages of the environmentally friendly transport modes of inland waterway and rail for long-distance Page 1 of 6
2 freight transport: Passau is Bavaria s Gateway to Southeast Europe it has great potential for the future that we intend to tap. We are linked to Austria and the countries of Southeast Europe via the Danube - and via the Main-Danube canal to the major seaports on the German North Sea coast, Holland and Belgium. This makes us the logistics hub between West and Southeast Europe, and the ideal partner for companies involved in importing and exporting. Our location in Passau-Schalding provides perfect conditions: trimodal links to waterway, rail and road; plus, the water levels on the Danube in Schalding only fluctuate slightly. Until 2008, bayernhafen Passau was principally located in the Racklau area of Passau, where it had increasingly reached its limits: there were no rail links and it was at risk of flooding. Hence, bayernhafen Gruppe, which sees its role as a site architect, was faced with the question of where it could re-locate bayernhafen Passau. Where was there room for growth and development? A site was chosen in Passau-Schalding a brownfield site on which a cement factory, a car dealership and a factory that produced reed mats had previously stood. bayernhafen Gruppe purchased the site and turned it into the new, trimodal location of bayernhafen Passau. Popularity of river cruise sector high In recent years, there has been a real boom in river cruises in Germany. In Passau, the high demand meant that some cruise ship companies had to use piers in nearby Austria. Since the end of 2015, hotel ships have also been able to dock at bayernhafen Passau under the coordination of the river cruise services specialist, Eichberger Reisen. The future utilisation of Racklau is the subject of intense dialogue with the city. The new docking possibilities for cruise ships are the first step. As a result of the renovation of the locks, hotel ships also docked at bayernhafen Passau-Schalding in the past year a total of 61 hotel ships in The cities that the cruise ships visit also benefit from the river cruise sector: Studies have shown that each cruise ship passenger spends on average 30 to 50 per day on guided tours, souvenirs, taxis or in cafés. Most of the cruise ship passengers that come from America and Australia spread the word by telling people back home about the cities they visited. Frequently, cruise passengers plan a return visit with more time. Page 2 of 6

4 bayernhafen Gruppe comprises six locations: Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau. What makes its locations so outstanding is the combination of direct proximity to economically important geographical hubs and efficient linking of the transport routes of inland waterway, rail and road. In 2015, a total of million tonnes of goods were moved (3.44 million tonnes by inland waterway, 6.27 million tonnes by rail, million tonnes by road). bayernhafen Gruppe is an active facilitator in the development of logistics solutions and networks. It acts as a site architect that develops strategies spanning different companies and locations, invests in highly flexible infrastructure, and cooperates closely with the companies settled in the ports to tap new potential for value creation. Its objective is to further strengthen the position of the ports as logistics hubs and as major platforms for the global exchange of goods. Strategic land management ensures a mix of industries from the transport, warehousing, logistics, service provision and production sectors. 800 hectares total port area and around 500 settled companies providing over 12,000 jobs also make bayernhafen Gruppe one of the best-performing logistics networks in Europe and one of the major drivers of the Bavarian economy. bayernhafen Gruppe itself has 210 employees. The operator of the locations of Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Regensburg and Passau is Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG. The Chief Executive Officer is Joachim Zimmermann. The locations of Nuremberg and Roth are operated by Hafen Nürnberg- Roth GmbH, with an 80% share held by Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG, a 19% share held by the City of Nuremberg and a 1% share held by the City of Roth. Page 4 of 6
