21 Hierarchical Encoding of Supply Particular characteristics of modelling with VISUM: Line hierarchy Line Line number and operator All these levels together provide the timetable. Line route (line route course) Path and distance between route or stop points Time profile (time profile course) Run time between stop points, Stop time on stop points Vehicle journey Vehicle journey section Departure time, Start and end stop point Departure time, Valid days, Vehicle unit/ combination, Start and end stop point Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 20

26 Deployment of Timetable Information Lines with line routes, time profiles and vehicle journeys can be generated in VISUM: manually or by importing timetable data files. To the submodel of public transport for Thuringia data of the Travel Information System of DB German Railways are used: this system includes timetable information by train and also by bus and by tram, It allows an intermodal search for connections (by train, bus and tram). DB s Travel Information System is publicly available at Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 25

31 Accessing Timetable Information DB s Travel Information system: is based on the timetable information system HAFAS of the software vendor HaCon, is using so-called HAFAS data. HAFAS data have a special data format the HAFAS raw data format. It consists of many text files with a fixed column format. Basic Data Files Transport Types, Stop Directory, Stop Coordinates, Timetable Period Data, Valid Days of Trips, Operator Data Timetable files Bus Timetable, Tram Timetable, Railway Timetable All these files of HAFAS data are necessary to generate lines with VISUM. Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 30
32 Accessing Timetable Information HAFAS raw data format (examples) Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 31
33 Integration of Timetable Information VISUM includes a HAFAS-interface: enable users to import data sets in HAFAS raw data format into VISUM. Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 32
34 Integration of Timetable Information The generated network contains: Nodes with assigned stop points, Direct distance links between the stops, Lines, Line routes, Time profiles, Valid days, Vehicle journeys. Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 33
35 Integration of Timetable Information 1. Stop points are integrated into the network : Insertion the nodes with the assigned stop point on network nodes or on network links. Importing this network data into the existing network file 2. The complete line hierarchy is integrated into the network: Using a shortest path search for implementation: the shortest paths between stops are searched for using the transport network, it is done on the basis of the timetable. The generated network contains: Nodes with assigned stop points, Direct distance links between the stops, Lines, Line routes, Time profiles, Valid days, Vehicle journeys. Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 34
36 Sub-Systems of Public Transport Sub-Systems Allocation of transport systems to network objects (e.g. links, turns, nodes, stops) Bus (city bus, regional bus) Tram Regional trains (DB) (Regional express train, Regional Train) Regional trains (non-db) (e.g. STB Regional train) Inter-City Trains (Intercity train, Intercity Express train, Euro Night train) Integrated Transport Model of Thuringia 35

41 Using of Passenger Surveys Passenger Surveys RES continuous passenger survey by DB Specific passenger surveys by other companies Passenger Surveys: Contain information to: the number of boarding and disboarding passengers and data of train/ bus occupancy. Are necessary to the calibration of the transport model: links and line routes can be attributed with the number of boarding passengers and disboarding passengers.
