4 1 Introduction The dangerous goods manual is documented in order to have a Standard Operating Procedure for handling of dangerous goods all around the globe A/c Emirates Shipping Line. These procedures are to be implemented globally with effect from 1 st November 2006 and shall replace all previous procedures relating to dangerous goods and are to be followed by each and every person handling dangerous cargo bookings, the cargo and / or containers a/c Emirates Shipping Line globally. 2 Objective The objective of this document is to provide guidance as to how dangerous goods are to be booked, registered, documented, loaded, transited, transshipped, and discharged. To identify essential tasks to be undertaken, information to be exchanged and the roles and responsibilities of all parties involved. The objective of this document is also to ensure safe transportation of hazardous commodities on Emirates Shipping Line vessels and thorough compliance of rules and regulations. 3 Dangerous Cargo and Its Classification A dangerous substance is a substance which, by its nature (even in small quantities) can harm or cause damage to people, animals and environment. Dangerous substances are classified according to the degree of danger. The following table is an insight to the type of danger each class possesses along with a few examples for your reference. 5 IMO Type Description Examples 1 Explosives All explosives which by themselves,or in certain mixtures,or by shock or friction,may cause an explosion followed by a fire. Dynamite, Fireworks, Cartridges, Detonating Cord, Missiles, Ammunition etc 2 Gases A chemical substance with a physical state gas, vapour or even liquefied gases. 3 Flammable Liquids 4 Flammable Solids 5 Oxidizing Substances A liquid Physical state Liquid or Fumes can catch fire and extend into a blaze. A solid physical state can catch fire and extend into a blaze. Are those rich in oxygen and undesirable in case of fire. Can cause fire or even explode when the oxygen ignites 6 Toxic Can poison a living organism Death when ingested, inhaled or absorbed by the skin. 7 Radioactive Can cause radiation disease cancer of contamination to containers and in worst cases, even a ship. 8 Corrosive Can cause burns to human beings and even damage the equipment. 9 Miscellaneous Substances not covered by any other class however have dangerous characteristics and may be harmful to the marine environment. Nitrogen, Oxygen, Propane, Butane, Acetylene etc Petrol, Ethers, Alcohol, Bitumen, Paints, Thinners, Adhesives, Flammable solvents etc. Charcoal, Fibres, Hay, Wax, Calcium Carbide, Magnesium Alkyls etc. Organic Peroxides, Fertilizers, Hair colouring peroxides, Bleaching agents etc Tear gas, Cyanides, Lead Compounds Weed Killers etc. Uranium ore, Cobalt60, Thorium 231 etc. Acids, Alkalis, Dyes, Detergents, Mercury etc. Lithium Batteries, Cargo Under Fumigation, Asbestos etc Note - There are also divisions within each class which are called sub divisions. Class 1 has sub divisions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4,1.5 and 1.6 Class 2 has sub divisions 2.1, 2.2. and 2.3 Class 4 has sub divisions 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 Class 6 has sub divisions 6.1 and 6.2 P.S. - Certain Substances / UNNO may also have two or more IMO Classes assigned to them according to the degree of danger. 6 Fluorine, Compressed is a toxic gas which is also an Oxidizing Agent and also Corrosive). 4 Rules And Regulations A wide range of rules and regulations need to be adhered to when transporting any cargo that is classified as Dangerous goods. They are as follows :- International Maritime Organization (IMO) Regulations Code of Federal Regulations (CFR49) Local port rules and regulations Emirates Shipping Line In-house rules and guidelines Consortium Partners In-house rules and guidelines 4.1 IMO Regulations IMO regulates various aspects of hazardous cargo shipment from classification and identification of each commodity, packing and labeling, stowage and segregation to emergency handling procedures. The complete IMO regulations pertaining to hazardous cargo can be found in the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) Code. The IMDG Code is renewed / amended every two years. 4.2 CFR49 Regulations Code of Federal Regulations (CFR49) is controlled by the Department Of Transport (DOT) of the United States and has its own set of rules and regulations and has some difference from the IMO Regulations. However the CFR49 has to be complied for all hazardous cargoes / containers moving from / to the United States Of America ONLY. The CFR49 is renewed / amended every year. 4.3 Local Rules And Regulations Various national and local port rules are also in place for safety and security at various ports according to their local law. The Emirates Shipping Line agents at each country or port are the best entity to understand their local rules and restriction at all time. General acceptance, restriction and prohibition of each hazardous commodity at each country and port are updated on the Emirates Shipping Line Intranet site and also the LRP system. 4.4 Emirates Shipping Line In-house Rules and Guidelines Besides IMDG Code and CFR49 regulations, there are additional set of rules and requirements implemented by Emirates Shipping Line Dangerous Goods desk in order to ensure optimum safety level of our colleagues working onboard the ships (crew), our vessels and the marine lives. 7 4.5 Consortium Partners In-house Rules and Guidelines Similar to the Emirates In-house Rules, our Consortium Partners too have their In-house rules, which could be found on the Emirates Shipping Line Intranet site. There is a possibility that certain cargoes are accepted by the Consortium Partners But not by Emirates Shipping Line and vice versa. The policy YOU ACCEPT, I ACCEPT between consortium partners applies. 4.6 Non-Compliance of Rules and Regulations Failure to understand and follow these rules (see 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5 ) may result in serious repercussions, such as; Loss of life, or injury to crew Fire and explosion Heavy fine and penalty 5 Process To understand the Process for registering, regulating data and approval of Hazardous shipments it is necessary to understand the flow of information too. 5.1 DG Reference Number The dangerous cargo information is stored in the LRP system (Emirates Shipping Line In-house system).the identity of every DG booking is its DG reference number which is automatically generated once the DG booking is saved, after entering all relevant DG details. This DG number is to be reported in all DG reports and requests. 5.2 Information Flow Emirates Shipping Line hazardous bookings are entered into LRP by the Customer Service Desk and sent to the DG Desk for approval, who in turn checks the application and changes the status of the booking (accepted, rejected, query etc) in the LRP system. The Customer Service Desk can thus view the status of Emirates Shipping Line Hazardous bookings in LRP and communicate with the shippers accordingly. Emirates Shipping Line Partners do not have LRP (in-house system)and therefore send in their applications through to the DG Desk, where the bookings are entered in the LRP by the Dg desk and also directly reply with the status through e mail (approved, rejected, etc) along with the LRP DG reference number, after checking all data with rules and regulations. 8 5.3 Division of Process The three divisions are as follows:- Partner s cargo on Emirates Shipping Line vessels Emirates Shipping Line cargo on Partner s vessels Emirates Shipping Line cargo on Emirates Shipping Line vessels Partner s cargo on Emirates Shipping Line Vessels Partner DG Desk reviews data / documents, checks House rules, IMDG / CFR49, Port clearances and sends booking to Emirates DG Desk for approval via to dg@emiratesline.com. Emirates DG Desk enters all contents in LRP system, reviews cargo as per Emirates & partner Houserules and either approve / reject / query the Partner via . A final summary of Approved DG to be sent to central planner for planning, by Hazardous Cut-off time. Incase any Partner bookings received before Hazardous Cut off Time, however for some reason pending for approval (lack of info, awaiting documents etc) a provisional list to be submitted to planner to keep stowage for same Emirates Shipping Line cargo on Partner vessels Shipper send application to Customer Service Agents (CSA) with Dangerous Goods Declaration, Container Packing Certificate, Tank Inspection Reports, Material Safety Data Sheet. CSA enters the data in the LRP system and sends to DG Desk For Approval along with documents. DG Desk reviews data / documents, checks Emirates as well as Partner House rules, IMDG / CFR49, Port clearances and sends booking to partner via . Partner Approves / Rejects Booking and sends back to Emirates DG desk vide to dg@emiratesline.com. Emirates DG Desk changes status of the booking in LRP system. 9 5.3.3 Emirates Shipping Line cargo on Emirates Shipping Line Vessels Shippers send application to Customer Service Agents (CSA) with Dangerous Goods Declaration, Container Packing Certificate, Tank Inspection Reports, Material Safety Data Sheet. CSA enters the data in the LRP system and sends to DG Desk For Approval along with documents. DG Desk reviews data / documents, checks Emirates House rules, IMDG / CFR49, Port clearances and actions booking in the LRP system. A final summary of Approved DG to be sent to planner for planning by Hazardous Cut-off time. 5.4 Flowchart PPaaggee 99 oof f 2244

10 6 Responsibilities All parties involved in handling dangerous goods are responsible for their actions and smooth functioning of Dangerous Goods a/c Emirates Shipping Line. The guidelines of their responsibilities are as under:- 6.1 Pricing / Sales / Marketing Team The pricing / sales / Marketing team should :- Prior giving the rates to Customer, get clarification from the Customer whether the cargo, desired to be shipped, is hazardous or non-hazardous cargo. If Hazardous ask for Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Institute of Packaging Certificate (issued by respective countries Competent Authority), dangerous goods declaration, tank inspection report (in case being shipped in tanks), shipper declaration (see annexure for example of certificates) and forward to dg desk for their approval. If Non-hazardous ask whether the cargo is non-hazardous chemicals. If yes, please obtain the MSDS and indemnity letter (see annexure for example of certificates) and forward to the DG desk for their checking / approval. Only upon receipt of the Dg desk approval, the rate to be given to customer. 6.2 Shipper / Consolidator / Consignor The shipper / consolidator should :- Offer only legal merchandise, packed, labeled, segregated and documented as per the IMO, CFR49 rules and regulations. It is the shipper / consignor s responsibility to declare and classify the cargo as per the degree of danger and as per the IMO norms. The shipper must forward the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Institute of Packaging Certificate (issued by respective countries Competent Authority), dangerous goods declaration, tank inspection report (in case being shipped in tanks), shipper declaration, indemnity letter (see annexure for example of certificates), whenever asked by the Emirates Shipping Line Dg Desk through the Customer Service. Not be allowed to offer Dangerous goods bookings after the Dangerous cargo closing times of a particular vessel. PPaaggee 1100 oof f 2244

11 6.3 Customer Service Team The Customer Service Should :- Upon receipt of booking enquiry from shipper, find out if the commodity is acceptable on Emirates Shipping Line vessels and collate all the additional information that is required as per Emirates Shipping Line houserules, from the shipper. If unclear send a mail to the DG desk with the Material Safety Data sheet for clarity. Enter details as submitted by the shipper into the LRP system as soon as possible and well before the cutoff time, which is 48 hours before vessel ETA at a particular port. (2 working days prior to vessel ETA). Not enter incomplete details into the LRP system. Ensure that for all N.O.S. (Not Otherwise Specified) entries a Technical Name is supplemented. Ensure that for all class 3 and sub class 3 cargoes a flashpoint is given. Ensure the shipper has all the required Documents and call for them when necessary. Ensure the full routing is input in the LRP system from place of receipt to place of delivery (including haulage, railroad, connecting main liners and/or feeders, barges etc ) Check well before closing time whether booking has been approved and / or whether additional information has been requested by the Dg desk. Take notice of remarks sent back by the Dg desk and action accordingly on priority. Incase missing info or clarification required from shipper the Customer Service should follow up and get details soonest. Be aware of costs relating to Dangerous goods shipments (The additional costs could be a port requirement, damages to container etc etc) and inform all concerned as well as the Dg desk. Should check for all transit, transshipment and discharge port clearances for the cargo being booked into the LRP system, reference to be taken from the intranet site, LRP system and / or send query to respective port representatives for information. Send the Container Booking Forecast with all expected DG cargo to the planner as well as the dg desk. Provide the port operations department the list of all dangerous goods approved on a particular vessel to be loaded on the vessel. Re-apply dg in the LRP system when any dg details, container type /size or vessel / voyage is changed for re-approval from the Dg desk. Check the feeder approval by local office and return the feedback to DG desk Avoiding Delay In order to avoid delay in booking acceptance, you just have to make sure all required details are provided, such as :- Name, Voyage number and ports information of all the vessels involved in your shipment is provided / updated. 12 Correct technical (or) chemical name of the commodity is provided for N.O.S. entries. Complete and accurate information about the packaging is provided. Total net weight and gross weight of each and every commodity in each container is accurate. Emergency contact information such as name and telephone number is provided. Complete fumigation information such as name of fumigant, amount of fumigant used (dosage) and date of fumigation is provided for fumigated containers. 6.4 Dangerous Goods Department The Dangerous Goods Department should :- Check bookings against regulations and advise through the LRP system or / phone to the Customer Service of missing or wrong information and/or additional requirements and the reason for rejection, if applicable. Advise planners of any additional stowage requirements, whenever applicable (if not already mentioned in the company houserules) Cross check the CBF with the actual Dg bookings booked in the LRP system. Call for any hazardous documents, if required. Facilitate all departments with information, suggestions etc with regards to Dangerous Cargo. The DG Desk is responsible for keeping track of quantities of each specific commodity booked on each vessel in order to ensure that the maximum permissible quantity on board as well as port restrictions in transit ports are adhered to. It is the responsibility of the DG Desk in conjunction with the local operation department / central planner, that the Charter Party is checked to ensure that any dangerous goods to be booked on a Charter Vessel is allowed to be loaded, and cross checked with the ships certificate of compliance, prior acceptance is given to the shipper. 6.5 Operations And Port / Terminal team The Operation and Port Terminal team should :- Compare the DG details from the LRP System with the DG details in the Documents and advise discrepancies to the DG Desk. This is applicable for Emirates Shipping Line Cargo as well as Partner cargo on Emirates Shipping Line Vessels. Check whether all documents (Dangerous Goods, Declaration, Container packing certificate, Weathering certificate, Competent Authority Approval etc) are available and correctly filled in (along with proper signatures). Ensure there are hazardous stickers of their relevant IMO class on the containers. Advise the DG desk of the DG shut out cargo with reasons. PPaaggee 1122 oof f 2244

13 Supply a Complete DG Manifest to the Master / Vessel before vessel departure. Distribute the DG documents to the transshipment and discharge ports and send a complete Terminal Departure report to all concerned with dangerous cargo containers mentioned separately with UNNO and IMO Class and Container Numbers mentioned. Stop all containers from being loaded which have not been approved by the DG Desk (unless approval from DG Desk can be obtained on time). Report all Dangerous cargoes being imported / exported to the port authorities. Update the Dangerous goods containers numbers and stow positions in the LRP system. Co-ordinate with the planner and Dg desk for all dg related matters. 6.6 Vessel Planner The vessel planner should:- Prepare the Pre-stow basis the final dg summary recd from the respective ports and cross-check with the summary received from the DG Department. Check with the DG department prior accepting any late DG bookings and / or COD requests. 6.7 Vessel Crew The vessel crew should :- Check all dg cargo details and documents being submitted to them and ensure that the EMS numbers are mentioned on the dangerous goods declaration / manifest, for easy and quick responses during unfortunate incidents. Keep the Vessel Planner / Next Port and DG desk informed of any minor / major reporting with regards to Dangerous Goods Containers and cargo. Ensure the hazardous labels / stickers are affixed on the container on all sides. Regularly check the status of hazardous containers onboard the vessel. Be alert regarding leakages and fires onboard. Always think for their safety first in case of mishaps General Provisions in the Event of Incidents Recommendations on emergency action may differ depending on whether or not the goods are stowed on deck or under deck or whether a substance is gaseous, liquid or solid. When dealing with incidents involving flammable gases or flammable liquids with a flash point of 61 C closed-cup (c.c.) or below, all sources of ignition (such as naked lights, unprotected light bulbs and electrical hand tools) shall be avoided. In general, the recommendation is to wash spillages on deck overboard with copious quantities of water and, where there is likely to be a dangerous reaction with water, PPaaggee 1133 oof f 2244

14 from as far away as practicable. Disposal of spilt dangerous goods overboard is a matter for judgment by the Master, bearing in mind that the safety of the crew has priority over pollution of the sea. If it is safe to do so, spillages and leakages of substances, articles and materials identified in the IMDG-Code as MARINE POLLUTANT shall be collected for safe disposal. Inert absorbent material shall be used for liquids. Toxic, corrosive and/or flammable vapors in under deck cargo spaces shall, where possible, be dispersed before undertaking any emergency action. Where a mechanical ventilation system is used, care will be necessary to ensure that flammable vapors are not ignited. If there is any reason to suspect leakage of these substances, entry into a hold or cargo space shall not be permitted until the Master or responsible Officer has taken all safety considerations into account and is satisfied that it is safe to do so. Emergency entry into the hold under other circumstances shall only be undertaken by trained crew wearing self-contained breathing apparatus and other protective clothing General Guidelines for Fire Think safety first! Avoid any contact with dangerous substances. Keep away from fire, smoke, fumes and vapours. Sound the fire alarm and start fire-fighting procedures. Keep the bridge and living quarters upwind if possible. Locate stowage position of cargo that is burning or evolving smoke. Identify cargo. Obtain UN Numbers and the EMS FIRE SCHEDULE of the dangerous goods involved. Consider which measures of the EMS FIRE SCHEDULE are applicable and shall be followed. Check if other dangerous goods may potentially be involved in the fire and identify the relevant EmS FIRE SCHEDULE. Wear suitable protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus. Be prepared to use the Medical First Aid Guide (MFAG). Contact the designated person of the company responsible for the operation of the ship or a rescue co-ordination centre to obtain expert advice on dangerous goods emergency response measures General Guidelines for Spillage Think of safety first! Avoid any contact with dangerous substances. Do not walk through spilled liquids or dust (solids). Keep away from vapors or gases. Sound alarm. Keep the bridge and living quarters up wind if possible. Wear full protective clothing resistant to chemical attack and self-contained breathing apparatus. Locate stowage position of leaking cargo. 15 Identify cargo. Obtain UN Numbers and the EMS SPILLAGE SCHEDULE of dangerous goods involved. Consider which measures of the EMS SPILLAGE SCHEDULE are applicable and shall be followed. Be prepared to use the Medical First Aid Guide (MFAG). Contact the designated person of the company responsible for the operation of the ship to obtain expert advice on dangerous goods emergency response measures. 6.8 Transshipment port Staff The transshipment port staff should:- Check with import list of all vessels arriving their port and apply for DG approval for the connecting vessel incase the second leg approval is not yet obtained. Ensure all dg documents are in their possession and inform port authorities of the transshipment details. Get a report from the surveyors / stevedores that all containers are discharge and re-loaded in sound condition. Inform all once containers are loaded from the transshipment port to the discharge port. 6.9 Discharge Port Staff The discharge port staff should :- Ensure all documents are in their possession and inform the port authorities of the the dg details. Get a report on the status of dg containers expected to be discharged. Incase of inland transport, submit to the truck / rail authorities and / or barge authority the dg details for smooth movement to destination Documentation Department Prior to releasing the Bill Of Lading, The documentation department should ensure that an indemnity letter is taken from the shipper / forwarder for all Non-Hazardous chemicals, account Emirates Shipping Line Logistics and Maintenance / Repair Team Advise the Dg desk and pricing department regarding the type of damages caused by the Dg cargo (previously shipped) in order to review the dg houserules and / or collect extra freight for that particular cargo in future. 16 6.12 General Responsibilities and References Until you have obtained approval from the DG Desk, no container is to be released to shipper for stuffing of Dangerous Goods Cargo. Rules may be changed overnight without any prior notice by an authority (see 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6), thus please DO NOT take it for granted that the same cargo you shipped yesterday is still valid today and tomorrow. You should therefore treat each and every shipment as a NEW shipment. IMO cutoff should be Strictly maintained and all are requested to book Dangerous / special cargo well in advance as there are many approvals to be sought before the cargo can actually be approved. After Office hour approval will be subject to DG Desk personnel accessibility to systems and other reasons. 7 Documentation Except as otherwise provided, the shipper or consignor who offers dangerous goods for transport shall describe the dangerous goods on a transport document and provide additional information and documentation as specified in the IMDG-Code. 7.1 Form of the Transport Document One of the primary requirement of a shipping document for dangerous goods is to convey the fundamental information about the cargo. A dangerous goods transport document may be in any form, provided it contains all of the information required by the provisions of the IMDG-Code. A dangerous goods transport document may consist of more than one page, provided pages are consecutively numbered. The information on a dangerous goods transport document shall be easy to identify, legible and durable and properly signed and stamped by the declarant. 7.2 Required Documents Onboard Emirates Shipping Line Vessels Basically there are two documents required :- Dangerous Cargo Manifest, and Multimodal Dangerous Goods Form (or) a combination of Dangerous Goods Declaration Form and Container Packing certificate for each container. Prior to loading Dangerous Cargo Manifest must be provided to the Master upon vessel arrival in port. PPaaggee 1166 oof f 2244

17 If there is no dangerous cargo to be loaded, NIL D.G. manifest must be provided. If there are fumigated container/s being loaded, separate manifest for fumigated containers must be provided to the vessel. 7.3 Quality Of Documents The Language in all dangerous cargo documents MUST BE in English. All documents MUST BE of clear and readable quality, unreadable fax-after-fax copy quality document are not acceptable. 7.4 Other required Information and Documentation In certain circumstances, special certificates are required such as: A Weathering Certificate, as required in the individual entries of the Dangerous Goods List. A certificate exempting a substance, material or article from the provisions of the IMDG Code (see individual entries in the dangerous goods list of the IMDG Code for charcoal, fishmeal, seedcake) For new self-reactive substances and organic peroxides or new formulations of currently assigned self-reactive substances and organic peroxides, as well as certain packaging, a statement by the competent authority of the country of origin of the approved classification and conditions of transport. 7.5 Container Packing Certificate When dangerous goods are packed or loaded into any container, those responsible for packing the container (shipper) shall provide a "container packing certificate" specifying the container identification number and certifying that the operation has been carried out in accordance with the following conditions: The container was clean, dry and apparently fit to receive the goods; Packages, which need to be segregated in accordance with applicable segregation requirements, have not been packed together onto or in the container, unless approved by the competent authority concerned; All packages have been externally inspected for damage, and only sound packages have been loaded; Drums have been stowed in an upright position, unless otherwise authorized by the competent authority, and all goods have been properly loaded and, where necessary, adequately braced with securing material to suit the mode of transport for the intended journey; Goods loaded in bulk have been evenly distributed within the container; PPaaggee 1177 oof f 2244

18 The container and packages are properly marked, labeled and placarded, as appropriate; When solid carbon dioxide (CO2 - dry ice) is used for cooling purposes, the container is externally marked or labeled in a conspicuous place, such as, at the door end, with the words: "DANGEROUS CO2 (DRY ICE) INSIDE. VENTILATE THOROUGHLY BEFORE ENTERING"; and A dangerous goods transport document has been received for each dangerous goods consignment loaded in the container. NOTE: The container packing certificate is not required for tanks. 7.6 Multimodal OR Dangerous Goods Declaration - 12 point Checklist The concerned receiving this document from the shipper should conduct a 12 point check of the document. Basis the following checklist, customer service agent / operations / documentation teams need to check the details as follows :- 1. Shipper 2. Booking Number 3. Consignee 4. Vessel / Voyage Number 5. Port of Loading 6. Port of Discharge 7. Destination 8. Consignment Information UN Number preceded by the letters UN Proper Shipping Name (PSN). For N.O.S. entries, the technical name of the product will be required to follow on from the PSN. For clarification of the PSN, check the wording for the UN number entry is the Dangerous Goods List in the IMDG Code Volume 2. Trade names are not acceptable. Hazard Class, including the division or compatibility group letter where applicable, followed by any subsidiary hazard which should be shown in brackets Packing group, where assigned, which may be preceded with the letters PG The above four pieces of information are required to only be shown in one of the two following acceptable sequences;- Example;- UN1098, Allyl Alcohol, 6.1 (3), I or Allyl Alcohol, 6.1 (3), UN1098, I In addition, where applicable, the PSN should also include the Flashpoint, and include the words, where applicable, Marine Pollutant and Limited Quantity, which can also be shown as LTD QTY Flashpoint (if applicable) Marine Pollutant, the goods shall be identified as Marine Pollutant as part of the PSN PPaaggee 1188 oof f 2244

19 Limited Quantity, if declared as limited quantities, the words Limited Quantity or LTD QTY shall be included in the PSN Emergency Telephone Response Number required The number, type and kind of packages Weights, gross and nett 9. Container and seal Number 10. Container type and size 11. Ensure the Container Vehicle Packing Certificate is signed 12. Ensure the Shipper s declaration is signed 8 Empty Unclean Packaging Or Tanks As per IMDG Code section 5.1.3, empty unclean packaging or units including tank containers containing residue of dangerous goods must be treated as previously contained dangerous goods in them and is considered hazardous as per the IMDG Code. Thus all provisions such as declaration, documentation, labeling and placarding, stowage and segregation, emergency handling etc,. must be done accordingly. Net weight of cargo in such shipment should be almost NIL, for declaration for packaging s and per empty tank the net weight should be 100 kgs (since it is not possible to determine the amount of residue inside). Gross weight should be the weight of the packaging in such cases. and for tanks, it should be the tare weight of the tank. 9 Emergency Response Telephone Number Whenever a hazardous material is offered for transportation to or from ports in North America, the shipper must provide a 24-hour emergency response telephone number (including the area code or the international access code) for use in the event of an emergency involving the hazardous material. The telephone number must be: Monitored at all times when the hazardous material is in transportation, including storage incidental to transportation; The number of a person who is either knowledgeable of the hazardous material being shipped and has comprehensive emergency response and incident mitigation information for the material, or has immediate access to a person who possesses such knowledge and information; Entered on the Dangerous Cargo Declaration and Manifest in the appropriate column. The Emergency telephone number shall not be a (Toll Free 800-number), as these numbers are only valid within the North America. PPaaggee 1199 oof f 2244

20 As per CFR (c) the requirement for an emergency telephone number does not apply to shipments made in accordance with the IMDG Code if hazardous material: Is not offloaded from the vessel. Is offloaded between ocean vessels at an U.S. port facility without being transported by public highway. 10 Non Operating Reefers with Chemical Cargo Non - Operating Reefers are NOT TO BE USED for hazardous or non-hazardous chemical cargo as they can ruin reefers due stains and/or taint (eg.. Your steak could taste like you are drinking perfume or thinner and your fish would not need garlic to be added).
