Zone Time: GMT + 3 hrs GENERAL INFORMATION The Port of Al Maqal is located in SE Iraq and inside of the Basrah city (population 1.500,000 +). Situated in the confluence of Shatt al Arab River, it lies on the west bank of Shatt Al Arab River; a well protected natural inlet tidal harbor. (a) Lat ' N Long ' E. Pilot Boardin Position / Anchorage Position The present pilot boarding position is Outer Bar of Shatt al Arab. After pilots confirm with agents arrival of vessel, agents arranges a boat to collect Pilots from Al Faw to the vessel. Once pilot boards the vessel, they follow his instructions. Anchorage Position Vessels calling Al Maqal are waiting on the Shatt Al Arab River closer to the port. Once the Agent confirm the sea pilot boarding time then can proceed to the inner channel inside Shat Al Arab River. Al Maqal Port Port extends approximately 65 NM in a NW direction from Shatt Al Arab Out Bar. construction, with 15 marked Berths 1.2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 &15 all for general cargo, there is only 7 berths now ready and the others berths not operational because there is ship wrecks under water.the approach is via a narrow (150m) unmarked channel, The depths at the port is about 9.00 m to 9.50 m. 1

2 The depth at Shatt Al Arab River is about 9.50 m, also there is many wrecks still laying at the Shatt Al Arab but it's out of the navigational channel. DRAFT All berths draft 9.50 m (In High Water) DETAILED INFORMATION Waterway Control / Security. Responsibility lies with Iraqi Coastal Defense Force (ICDF) for all movements within the approaches in conjunction with the Harbour Master/Control for berths and movement within the port area. The Al Maqal Port Control can be contacted on Vhf Ch. 12, 16 hrs a day. The Ports Security is carried up by the local Iraqi Ports Authority, and local police. ANCHORAGES North or South of Harbour limit. Depths Approximately 9.50 m. Nature of Bottom: Soft mud. Weather Limitations This anchorage is relatively sheltered but is less effective when the prevailing conditions are from the SE. 2

3 HARBOUR CRAFT Tugs There are tugs available in Al Maqal to cater with the shipping demands. PORT LIMITATIONS Vessel Limiting Lengths and Widths. No limiting for vessel's lengths and Widths only the max draft should be less than 5.20 m High Water for safety navigation at Out Bar. Max Draft The maximum arrival draft at the channel should be 9.5 meters.but the Draft At the out Bar is only 5.20 M at high water. Dredging Operations in channel and port There Is No dredging in the Shatt Al Arab river or at The OUT Bar. Limiting Depths of Approach Channels, Basins and Berths.
