3 ФМС EnergySystems Description of a marine loading arm A marine loading arm is an articulated pipe system for the transfer of liquids or gases. This may be manoeuvred manually or hydraulically. A marine loading arm is comprising several components namely : base riser inboard arm outboard arm The articulation is assured by swivel arrangements. These arrangements (or styles) allow for complete movement in all planes. All the swivels incorporated in the styles have patented replaceable race ways. This exclusive feature ensures the long life of the swivel. This results in lower maintenance costs and downtime whereas conventional swivels showing signs of wear need to be completely replaced. 6 Loading/Unloading for cryogenic service FMC is the undoubted leader in the field of transferring liquefied gases at cryogenic temperatures (LNG/ Ethylene...). The world's first LNG export terminal was equipped with Chiksan marine loading arms. FMC has gone on to supply all the major terminals with their marine loading arm requirements. In an endeavour to give added assurance in handling such hazardous products FMC has devoted great time and effort to develop the most reliable and security conscious equipment available on the market today. The major breakthrough was the concept of the Chiksan cryogenic swivel joint with its patented snap-in races and its unique sealing arrangement. 9 Other applications ФМС EnergySystems Marine loading arms for special applications High temperature transfer of products such as tar, bitumen, liquid sulphur... can be successfully carried out by using special jacketed arms/swivels using steam/oil/hot water to assure the required viscosity of the product. Corrosive product transfer such as sulfuric and phosphoric acids etc... requires compatible contact materials. FMC has considered this when designing arms for such applications. Mobile installations Standard systems and jumper assemblies may be supplied mounted on road or rail trailers to provide loading speed and efficiency at terminals with limited dock space or where dock space is used more often for other than liquid cargo. 10 Marine loading arm accessories Manual Quikcon The manual Quikcon makes manual flanging operations faster than ever before without the use of special tools Hydraulic quick connect/disconnect coupler For even quicker flanging operations, the hydraulic quick connect/ disconnect coupler allows for connecting to three different manifold diameters without the use of adaptors. Powered emergency release coupling system This allows for almost instantaneou disconnect of the arms from the vessel in the case of an emergency The system may incorporate variou types of single or double valve arrangements to prevent product spillage.

11 EnergySystem Remote control unit / Radio remote control Small lightweight control unit which permits the arm selection and movement control from any desired point including the tanker deck manifold area. Control console/power unit The control console displays permanent information relative to the status of the arms and controls the overall movement of the arms. All the power unit generates the required hydraulic flow. Electrical components are grouped within. Position monitoring system An innovating microprocessor system which gives a permanent read out/ print out of the position of the flange within a predetermined area. The system computes all parameters to ensure that in the event of an emergency the disconnection would occur at a precise and predefined stage. This surveillance can be carried out from any point of the terminal. a о

12 Special offshore loading applications General Over recent years most offshore transfer systems were developed to cope with the size of crude tankers and the limited number of harbours that could accommodate them. Other motivations, either technical or economical, slowly emerge nowadays in favour of offshore transfer systems, either directly on the producing offshore fields or off the coasts of the producing or receiving countries. The new challenge is to conceive and develop systems even more dependable than those onshore. Offshore systems may be subject to almost continuous motion due to tides, currents and winds. Ships may be incorrectly moored and the supervision may be restricted. From storage barges/processing barges Barge to tanker loading arm (BTLA) While arms on canal barges can be considered as a classical application, barge-born arms in open seas date back from 1978 when two giant RCMA'S (16 inches 110 feet) were installed. The concept has since been refined to cope with rougher sea conditions. The BTLA design features, specially intended for barge to barge or barge to tanker connection are : a low profile in stored condition improved ease of connection minimum space required on deck counterweights travel vertically on a beam below deck. 13 EnergySystemi From buoys Submerged or semi-submerged swivel joints Since 1967 FMC have specialised in the design and manufacture of swivels for SPM. Sizes range from 4 inches to 65 inches diameter, and design pressures may be as high as 1000 psi. Special designs are available for pressures in the order of 5000 psi (for diameters up to 10 inches), and for constant motion. A new generation of cryogenic swivel joints have been developed for use in future offshore cryogenic facilities. In open sea (Boom to tanker loading arm) More specially developed for platform to tanker connection, the BIT system is designed for minimum tanker mooring (single point with bow or stern thrusters pull). The multi-position articulated piping copes with the fast motions of the ship, whereas the boom system follows the slow side drift motion with the help of microprocessor. Safe connections and disconnections have been particularly considered with a complete review of the concept of emergency disconnection. Main applications are for crude and LNG with medium flow rates.

14 General considerations/scope of service Engineering capabilities The engineering department is organized to respond to market and customer demand for all types of transfer systems for gas, petroleum, petrochemical and chemical products : R & D activity is focused on three major points : Improvement in the existing marine loading arm technology, primarily with respect to control, alarm and emergency systems, using the latest developments in microprocessors and programmable controllers. High pressure transfer systems for offshore service, where constant motion requirements are specified. Offshore cryogenic transfer systems for the LNG schemes where natural gas is liquefied and transferred offshore or off the coasts. Application engineering activity involves all aspects of engineering the interface between ship and shore : marine loading arms, their control systems (hydraulics, flameproof and intrinsically safe electrics), their emergency systems. This activity is supported by a comprehensive stress analysis, carried out on a job per job basis, for the most critical attitudes of the loading systems. Computerized contract processing activity : design and manufacturing drawings prepared through an Intergraph CADD system (Computer Aided Design and Drafting), bills of materials, spare parts lists, routings processed through MAPICS package run on an IBM system 38 ; stress analysis presently performed on a CDC 7600 through a Tektronix terminal.
