Tis information does not, owever, cover all te periperal conditions included in tis new guideline. TN01 is replaced y tis guideline. Tis document assumes tat forklt trucks are driven y trained and qualied operators. 1. Scope In tis guideline, te determination of te 90 acking aisle widt as een defined for major indurial truck types. rticulated counteralance trucks are not included in tis document. NOTE: Tis metod of calculation, due to its simpliic nature, may not necessarily represent te minimum possile safe acking aisle widt. More sopiicated metods are availale and may e more suitale particularly wen long or wide loads are eing andled. BIT guidance note GN9 is an example of suc a metod.. Terms and definitions In addition to te terms defined in ISO 5053, te following definitions apply: 3.1 Operating aisle widt Minimum dimension across te aisle at any level etween eiter unit loads located in teir nominal position or etween te rack ructure components. [Ref EN15878] 3. Operating aisle widt required for 90 acking (90 operating aisle Operating aisle widt required for elevated acking operations wit te unit load perpendicular to te aisle axis. In tis operation, te unit load is only moved witin te operating aisle widt wil aligning it wit te orage location in te rack. 3.3 Manoeuvring allowance Minimum dimension (total clearance on ot sides y wic te teoretical aisle widt determined from te dimensions of te indurial truck and te unit load is increased to give te operational aisle widt. NOTE: Te manoeuvring allowance is divided equally over ot sides of te aisle.

4 Page FEM (013 4 Determination of te operating aisle widt for 90 acking 4.1 Periperal conditions In general 00mm is adopted as te manoeuvring allowance (dimension "a" in figures to 6 and gives satisfactory levels of safe operation. However, due to oter factors, it may e necessary to increase te manoeuvring allowance. For example: - unusual load dimensions wic make precise manoeuvring and acking dficult; - productivity requirement; - operator skills. For pederian controlled trucks te minimum operating aisle widt is calculated ased on te tiller at te upper driving position. NOTE: It is normal practice to use a 00mm dimension is to enale comparison etween dferent trucks designs and sizes. 4. Influence of indurial truck design and unit load dimensions Te load lengt l6 and load widt 1 sall e determined from te actual dimensions of te unit loads to e ored including any load overang ( present see Figure 1. NOTE: Indurial truck data seets (VDI 198 are typically ased on andard pallet sizes i.e and , witout load overang. Tere are a numer of possile geometrical situations of truck and unit load to calculate te aisle widt and te large value sall e taken from te equations in figures to 6. NOTE: If unit loads at floor level are positioned using anoter type of truck tis may e possile witout turning troug 90 and witout entering te rack.
