Page 5 / 12 Packaging SPECIALTY SOLUTIONS FOR COMPLEX DEMANDS )2 CASE NO: 02 LOCATION: South East USA COMPLETE BUNDLING & PACKAGING LINE The customer required a unique unit to perform bundling activity for both square and round tubing. The final design is simple and versatile, allowing for a variety of sizes with a simple mechanical movement. This unit integrates two automated strapping machines, a mill runout conveyor, Brandt bundler, and an exit drag chain and was optimized to reduce changeover time and maintenance costs. The system automates the bundling of round, square, and structural HSS from 6-5/8 to 12-3/4 in lengths ranging from 20 to 60 and is able to stack, count, and configure bundles of pipe in multiple customer-defined configurations. Producing integrated product packaging solutions that meet the demands of the steel industry is a challenging task. It calls for an experienced team, the best equipment, and requires intensive planning to ensure maintenance and proper packaging is completed safely and effectively. Creating the capacity to move, position, count, and layer pipe according to spec is a specialty that Brandt s mechanical and automation engineers, working together with our manufacturing team, deliver with absolute precision every time. Automated and controlled from a touch screen operator station, Brandt bundlers build the programmed configuration, fully containing the sides to maintain the shape until strapping is completed. Once completed, a lateral transfer system stages the bundles onto an unloading table for their final transfer. Page 6 / 12 Finishing Floor FAST, PRECISE, EVERY TIME CASE NO: 03 LOCATION: Canada COMPLETE THREAD LINE The customer needed to produce API and Premium threaded connections in a tight area, requiring the material handling equipment to go both indoors and outdoors. We installed the threaders inside the building with pipe to be handled outdoors. We had to create an efficient, high-speed line, while also being able to turn the pipe 180 degrees due to the threaders being located on the same side of the line. A pipe turner was designed and fabricated by Brandt, and the entire line was delivered to the customer using only electric cylinders, as no pneumatics or hydraulics were allowed. HIGH RELIABILITY. )4 CASE NO: 04 LOCATION: North East USA END TO END TESTING FACILITY Brandt supplied a complete turnkey project that allowed for the layout, design, equipment specification, manufacturing, and commissioning of handling and testing equipment for the entire mill. Due to the in-depth involvement of Brandt at the design/layout stage of the project, the mills are able to achieve high output without sacrificing the maintainability of the site. Included in the supply of the project were pipe skids, conveyors, multiple hydrotesters, cooling beds, salvage bins, blowout stations, drift stations, thread tables, NDT conveyors, and WMMS among other components. Brandt has been successfully designing, manufacturing, and repairing a broad range of pipe testing equipment for many years. Our WMMS units reliably ensure that pipe weights, lengths and stencils match the specification you require. Brandt hydrotesters are fast and accurate and able keep pace with the production line without sacrificing the quality of the test and our drifters are designed for your line speed and ensure that the ID of the pipe is correct every time. Brandt handling equipment for NDT stations will ensure that the pipe is tested accurately, and we will help integrate crush testing and crop saw equipment into the testing area to ensure quality and accurate testing is taking place. Page 8 / 12 Steel Mill Solutions RUGGED EQUIPMENT YOU CAN COUNT ON CASE NO: 05 LOCATION: Canada STEEL COIL ACCUMULATOR Brandt designed, manufactured and installed an accumulator for use in a 2 steel pipe mill. The accumulator functions as a surge bin, allowing a continuous supply of strip to the mill while being fed with coils. The accumulator uses a series of angled rolls in a spiral pattern to change the strip orientation in preparation for entry into the mill. Prior to the installation of this accumulator, the end of the strip in the mill was welded to the beginning of a new coil. This required the mill to stop production for each new coil. Successful steel mill configuration requires precise planning and execution to ensure that equipment will stand up to the rigours of production. Brandt has been working with steel mills for many years; retrofitting, repairing, and designing equipment for this difficult environment. Our skilled team of designers, manufacturers, and repair personnel understand the needs of these facilities and will confidently tackle the project handed to us. Damaged units are thoroughly inspected, looking at failure modes and opportunities for design improvement. After assessing the unique need, our team engineers a solution resulting in tighter tolerances, and higher work output and productivity for our customer. Downtime is a major profit-killer. Getting you back up and running sooner and keeping you running longer is often the difference between making money and losing it and that s where Brandt comes in. We can fix almost anything and repairs and refurbishing have been our specialty for over 80 years. Page 10 / 12 Case Study No. 7 PROJECT: TUBE UPGRADE CENTRE LOCATION: SAUDI ARABIA Brandt has been providing comprehensive, purpose-built Finishing Floor Solutions to the Tube & Pipe industry for many years. This unique capacity has taken us to locations around the world and given our team the opportunity to provide turnkey solutions for numerous pipeline suppliers. One of these was an innovative greenfield project in Saudi Arabia. An oil industry pipe supplier, based in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, required a vendor to design and complete a comprehensive upgrade facility, including plant layout, process flow and size requirements; a group of integrated facilities that together would comprise a one-stop tube upgrade center. The customer s goal was to transform low-cost green tube into high-quality OCTG product in a range of API and special grades in various sizes. The finished product was to be marketed for use in the oil and natural gas, power generation, mechanical structures, and chemical industries in Saudi Arabia and internationally. Based on a comprehensive plan from Brandt, the final project recommendation comprised three facilities Heat Treating, Testing, and Finishing (Threading) for which Brandt engineered and project-managed all of the required manufacturing, delivery, site construction, installation, and commissioning HEAT TREAT FACILITY (95,000 FT2) The largest of the three, it contains equipment and controls to heat treat, inspect, bevel, and track seamless pipe for oil drilling applications. The requirement was to optimally house and position two furnaces, quench, custom hot sizer, straightener, tables, gauges and beveling equipment for maximum efficiency and plant throughput. Brandt worked with major international suppliers of equipment and employed our own internal design and manufacturing capabilities to successfully provide, install and commission the needed units. TESTING FACILITY (55,000 FT2) The purpose of this facility was high-efficiency hydro-testing and other non-destructive performance metrics for pipe. The inspection and testing plan for the product was developed with the customer to satisfy stringent industry seamless pipe specifications and requirements. THREADING FACILITY (75,000 FT2) The threading building was equipped with threading, coupling installation, testing and individual pipe tracking capacity for both API pipe connections and premium connections. Through key strategic partnerships, Brandt was able to supply a complete system. To precisely monitor production as the facility went into production, an individual pipe tracking system was developed for the entire site. Through a wireless network, each unit was bar coded and tracked, from the moment they were offloaded onsite to the moment they were loaded back on a truck for delivery to the end user s location.

Page 11 / 12 RESULTS This major project proved highly successful for our customer and we continue to work alongside them in a product support role. When complete, the production equipment was packed into 149 shipping containers along with several large pieces that sat on deck for the trans-atlantic voyage. Successful completion necessitated an extensive international project management effort, with Brandt coordinating the efforts of vendors in Japan, Germany, Taiwan, England USA and Canada providing leadership to navigate the complex project variables and create a highly successful outcome in this logistically challenging location.
