Competitors products in GL8 s market segment are all too often made with heavy-duty fabricated structures that require a complex design phase, prolonged and inconvenient in-situ erection procedures, and can only be given their final protective coat at the work-site, resulting in a reduced level of finish quality. When using solutions of this type, the structure tends to be inflexible, since modifications after initial erection are complex and expensive and the original system cannot be readily adapted to serve altered requirements. Armes was one of the first companies in the world (first in Italy) to develop a system for long-span mezzanine floors. The GL8 mezzanine is accompanied from the outset by comprehensive design documentation, which is a fundamental part of the system, especially when the structure is designed for pedestrian access as well as storage of material, in which case it must be furnished with a specific loading report. 10 10 Globally and in each individual component, the GL8 system has been optimized to obtain the highest possible performance with the smallest possible amount of material, thus maximizing savings in terms of weight and cost. Weight savings are particularly significant when compared to conventional fabricated steel structures. This is a result of the optimization of each component in the GL8 system starting from the design stage, so that the assembly phase, which is performed on site with the minimum fuss, is straightforward, rapid and easy to plan. Since joints are made exclusively with nuts and bolts, all the components reach the site ready for assembly so that they can be finished in the Armes factory to the highest technological standards. If the structure requires modification at a later date, all the parts utilized in the initial layout can be re-used in all revised versions. One of the hallmark features of the GL8 system is its reduced number of components, all of which GL8 THE HEART OF

11 are standardized and compatible with warehousing procedures. The central component of the system is the capital, which is available in different versions to fit uprights in accordance with their position in the structure; the capital is designed to allow easy and quick assembly between beams and uprights; the 8-fold sigma section beam, an essential component when long spans are required, is available in a range of different dimensions and thicknesses and is utilized both as main and as A SYSTEM secondary beam, with the use of brackets, spacers and other accessories. Different heights (250 and 300 mm), several thicknesses (from 2 to 4 mm) and the use of proper steels enable the beams to reach particularly significative performances. The GL8 mezzanine floor, which is a fully selfloading structure, is designed and built to comply with static and dynamic loading requirements that take into account risk factors, including seismic events The GL8 system is protected by international patent. 11

The access stairways, in single or double flight versions with or without landing, are fully in line with the requirements of the relevant legislation, which defines different criteria according to whether or not the structure is designed for public access. The railing, which comply with the most stringent safety standards, is constituted of uprights, handrail and other components. There are various types of gate available, hinged with one or two doors, sliding, and overhead safety types, thus providing a comprehensive response to all types of access requirements to the various levels for goods loading, also using lift trucks.
