2 REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN STAKEHOLDER SURVEY RESPONSE HIGHLIGHTS The Cape Cod Commission conducted a stakeholder survey during the 2015 Regional Transportation Plan process. 125 Number of Respondents Barnstable Bourne Brewster Chatham Dennis Eastham Falmouth Truro Harwich Wellfleet Mashpee Off-Cape Orleans Provincetown Sandwich Where They Live 0 < >65 Age Respondents were asked to identify problem locations they experience locally and across the region. A total of 235 data points were entered. 2
3 23% I would OPPOSE a bridge project, no matter the conditions. 77% I would SUPPORT a bridge project, with appropriate conditions. 18% 77% I would SUPPORT a bridge project, with appropriate conditions. 82% Private Financing Public Financing 36% 64% 58% 42% No tolls, fund through public sources Tolls, construction reimbursed by users Replacement, No New Lanes Additional Crossing, More Lanes 60% 40% 20% 0% GREATLY SUPPORT SUPPORT NEUTRAL OPPOSE GREATLY OPPOSE ROUTE 28: FALMOUTH/ CHATHAM IMPROVED BIKE ACCOMODATION SHINING SEA BIKE PATH EXTENSION TO BOURNE CAPE COD RAIL TRAIL: EXTENSION TO PROVINCETOWN The survey asked respondents to rate their level of support for projects that had been developed in previous planning efforts (excerpt above). 3
4 30% 25% 20% 15% 10% 5% 0% ROADWAY PROJECTS SAFETY HISTORICAL ALLOCATION CONGESTION/ AIR QUALITY ROADWAY MAINTENANCE RESPONDENT AVERAGE ALLOCATION BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TRANSIT SERVICE BIKE/PED IMPROVEMENTS INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS Respondents used sliders to describe how they would allocate transportation funding, representing the fiscal constraints in the planning process. If the T is to come to Bourne, it should cross the Canal. The Flex bus should include stops at all public affordable housing complexes in order to make the Cape truly accessible to low-income residents. The very high usage of the Shining [Sea Bike] Path and Rail Trail bikeways shows the importance of safe bike facilities to tourists. We do not need a third bridge! There has been much discussion on an additional bridge and the impact that may have on bringing additional traffic to the Cape a complete impact study should be conducted. Create an environment where all road users can feel equal and feel safer. People come to Cape Cod for the quality of life. A sustainable transportation plan will support the unique characteristics of Cape Cod. Additional comments/questions? The full survey results are listed in Appendix O of the Regional Transportation Plan.
