4 Road transportation Well developed industry dominating in the market. Very modern, new trucks over 35 thd units EURO 5 in More than 100 thd transportation companies registered. Out of this over 90% are small from 1 to 5 trucks. Very few operating more than 100 own trucks. Very strong competition, so prices often do not cover all costs. Roads improvement is in progress but heavy and congested traffic. New EU regulations imposed within few last years made life of trucking companies more difficult and complicated. Due to slow down in economy in 2008 and 2009 many of truckers bankrupted. In 2010 and 2011 new started again.

5 Rail cargo Market is changing due to liberalization. Registered and licensed about 40 providers offering services. Relatively poor conditions of railroads. PKP Cargo national rail transport company is in a deep crisis in spite good results within last two years when profited of shuttle carriages of materials required for highways construction. Relatively good development of the container shuttle trains to/from Gdansk and Gdynia seaports. Decreasing of east-west transit via Poland.

6 Maritime transport Growing volumes of containers and bulk cargo, decreasing in steal products. Majority of containers transported to/from polish ports by feeders from North Sea ports, mainly from Hamburg. Due to new container terminal in Gdañsk (DTC) first direct services from Far East started in Services offered by all major carriers. Dominating position of Mersk, MSC and CMA-CGM.

10 Maritime forwarding In spite of direct sales activity by ocean carriers there are about 200 forwarders concentrating activity on the sea freight and complimentary inland services. Pareto principle applicable 20/80. Some of them are equiped with own container trailers, hiring warehouses located in/near port area and expand intermodal acctivities. Due to growing volume of goods transported from far east by sea vessels demand for services is constantly increasing. There is also very big development of cargo export from Poland over sea. Some large traders consequently rerouting cargo to sea transport due to improving quality and competitive prices.

11 Road forwarding Only large customers interested in FTL services. The real demand is for groupage and LTL goods. Several forwarders offers regular groupage services to/from majority european destinations. Much more offers services to/from limited destinations (even traffic between two countries). Poland is a very interesting market also for local inland LTL and groupage cargo. Few companies are offering countrywide deliveries based on own networks. Also some networks are created lately by smaller local operators. Demand is growing but still limited by own services arranged by largest retailers.

12 Air cargo forwarding Still small but very competitive, open market. Demand is permanently but slowly growing, mainly for export. About 70 forwarders looking and fighting for a good market position which depends on long term contracts with customers and carriers. Development of regional airports and airlines services providing possibility to arrange air shipments not only from Warszawa

13 Polish Chamber of Forwarding and Logistics Chamber was registered in 2002 and is continuing activity of Polish International Freight Forwarding Association (PIFFA this name of chamber is still used). PIFFA has been established in Gdynia in 1920 and was one of the founder of FIATA in There is 140 ordinary members of chamber as per begining of April 2013.

14 Protection of rights and representation of interests of the Association Members before the govermental bodies and local authorities, trade unions and other organizations associating shippers, carriers and their agents and brokers; Representation of the Association Members interests before international organizations of forwarders, shippers, carriers, etc. If their activity touches upon professional interests of PIFFA Members; Supporting high quality services rendered by the members according to internationally recognized standards; Enhancement of professional ethics in the international freight forwarding industry. The merits of PIFFA activity are executed through statutory authorities and bodies such as: Professional Ethics Committee Experts Committee Vocational Training Committee Customs & Excise Committee Finnancial Committee Working Groups comprising sea, road, rail and air transport.
