5 Getting Started Getting Started Dispatcher overview Two types of Dispatcher are available for installation: Dispatcher for InputAccel and Dispatcher for API Mode (standalone version). Both versions can be installed on, the same machine, although, typically, only one version is installed. Dispatcher for InputAccel overview The Dispatcher for InputAccel software integrates the InputAccel and Dispatcher systems through the use of four InputAccel QuickModules that are specifically designed to work with a Dispatcher project file (DPP): Dispatcher Classification module - Performs automatic image classification at the form level and can route images to a Classification Edit step (for manual classification) or a Recognition step (for data extraction). Dispatcher Classification Edit module - Enables operators to perform manual image classification on images that could not be classified by the Dispatcher Classification module. Dispatcher Recognition module - Performs automatic data extraction for each field on an image, as well as a confidence value for that data. Dispatcher Validation module - Enables operators to perform manual character validation and correction on images at the form and field level EMC Corporation 1 Jul-07

6 Getting Started Dispatcher for InputAccel also includes an optional statistics module. The Dispatcher Statistics module enables you to report on various production-time statistics to control and optimize processes, measure operator productivity, and troubleshoot problem areas within Dispatcher for InputAccel. Before you can use your Dispatcher for InputAccel system, you must first install all of the appropriate software and then configure it properly for your environment. Dispatcher for API Mode overview The Dispatcher for API Mode standalone software is composed of two module sets that constitute the development and production environments. The development environment is comprised of the Dispatcher Manager and Free Form Designer modules. The production environment is comprised of automatic and manual classification and indexation modules. Dispatcher is installed on one single machine, requiring no client/server architecture. Before you can define the Dispatcher system, you must first install all of the appropriate software packages and then configure them for the environment. Prerequisites/Assumptions The steps in this document assume that you are an experienced Dispatcher and InputAccel application designer and understand how to design and use these products within both a design and production environment EMC Corporation 2 Jul-07

7 Configuration Guidelines Configuration Guidelines Overview Dispatcher for InputAccel and Dispatcher for API Mode (standalone version) require specific hardware configurations and software versions, and can run only on specific operating systems. You should first check these guidelines before installing any of the software. To install or upgrade Dispatcher for InputAccel, refer to Installing Dispatcher for InputAccel on page 9. 8 Configuration Guidelines Licenses Licensing Dispatcher for InputAccel Dispatcher for InputAccel requires a valid InputAccel license file to run. Each of the Dispatcher for InputAccel modules contains a module ID that is licensed within the InputAccel license file. The InputAccel license file contains all of the necessary licensing information for Dispatcher to run, including number of connections, number of pages processed, and additional options for Dispatcher Statistics, Array Fields, and Free Form technology. Prior to processing a task, Dispatcher queries the InputAccel license file to verify that the program is properly licensed to operate, the connection or number of pages processed limits have not been exceeded, or that a particular option is enabled. Licensing Dispatcher for API Mode (standalone version) Dispatcher standalone version requires a software license key that defines the functionalities, document volumes and period of validity. This key is registered using the Dispatcher License Manager module. 13 Installing Dispatcher for InputAccel Installing Dispatcher for InputAccel Overview To create a Dispatcher for InputAccel environment, you must install InputAccel software on the server and client machines as described in the following sections. Dispatcher for InputAccel client modules are installed as part of the InputAccel client installation. When you set up your InputAccel environment you can choose to install the client modules on the server or client machine; however the InputAccel Server software must be installed before the InputAccel client software. Running Dispatcher for InputAccel modules as services The following Dispatcher for InputAccel modules can be run as services: Dispatcher Classification Dispatcher Recognition 2007 EMC Corporation 9 Jul-07

14 Installing Dispatcher for InputAccel Because these modules are unattended modules, meaning they do not require operator intervention to process batches, running them as services can provide a number of advantages. For example, modules run as services can be configured to launch on workstation startup and continue to run and wait for batches to process. Also, when configured to process batches in Run All Batches mode, the module running as a service will automatically process batches as they become available, without requiring user intervention. There may be reasons that you do not want to run unattended modules as services. For example, you may only want to process specific batches on a specific server. Modules run as services will always process all batches from any server as they become available. Or, if a batch requires some type of operator intervention, such as responding to a dialog prompt, a module run as a service cannot display the user interface to enable this response. Starting unattended modules as services By default, all modules installed as services are set to Manual (off) within the Windows Services dialog. Before you can begin using the module as a service, you must start the service. For specific instructions on how to do this, refer to the Starting a module as a service section in the InputAccel Installation and Configuration Guide. Installing unattended modules as services You can easily install unattended Dispatcher for InputAccel modules as services during the Dispatcher for InputAccel software installation by specifying a server machine name and attempting to contact this server during the installation process. However, there may be circumstances in which you do not install modules as services during the installation process, which will require that you manually install these services EMC Corporation 10 Jul-07

15 Installing Dispatcher for InputAccel Working in an InputAccel ScaleServer-aware environment Within InputAccel, a ScaleServer environment enables a group of InputAccel Servers to be connected within a single network. Up to eight individual InputAccel Servers can be licensed and configured to work together in one information capture system. All four Dispatcher for InputAccel modules are ScaleServer aware and can be used within a ScaleServer environment. However, the functionality of the module within the ScaleServer environment differs depending on whether the module is an attended or unattended module. The Dispatcher Classification and Recognition modules are unattended modules. The Dispatcher Classification Edit and Validation modules are attended modules. Refer to the Using the Dispatcher Classification Edit or Dispatcher Validation user interface topics in the Dispatcher for InputAccel Help for more information on processing attended modules in a ScaleServer environment. Refer to the InputAccel Installation and Configuration Guide for conceptual information and instructions on setting up ScaleServer groups. 22 Installing Dispatcher for InputAccel 3. From the Authentication area, select SQL Server and Windows. Windows Authentication becomes the mechanism used to connect to the database. SQL Server uses a login ID to give access to a server. The login ID is an account identifier that controls access to SQL Server. SQL Server does not complete a connection unless it has first verified that the specified login ID specified is valid. The login only allows you to connect to a SQL Server. To access an individual database within the server requires permissions within the database. These permissions are controlled by user accounts that are created within the database. Notes: 1. Local System Accounts do not allow access over a network. 2. If workstations are configured in a workgroup, the user name/password used to run the IA Server must exist on every machine in the Dispatcher for InputAccel environment. In a workgroup, every machine maintains its own user accounts EMC Corporation 18 Jul-07

Note: The Installation key is provided by Technical Support based on the terms of the license agreement. 4. Specify the installation folder. 5. Select OK. If the registry keyword and the installation folder are correct, the Dispatcher Registration window closes and the main Dispatcher License Manager window displays the functionalities, credits and OCR engines available with the license. If the key or the installation folder is incorrect, an error message displays. Caution: After three registration failures (e.g., typing error, incorrect installation folder, etc.), the registration window closes EMC Corporation 28 Jul-07

33 Installing Dispatcher for API Mode (standalone version) Testing the Dispatcher installation After installing the Dispatcher components, you can test the system using the following steps: 1. Open Dispatcher Manager from the Start > Programs > Dispatcher > Dispatcher Manager menu. 2. Select File > Open to open an existing Dispatcher project or File > New to open the Dispatcher new project wizard dialog box. Follow the instructions to create a new project. 3. Select Test > Classification test. The Classification Test dialog box should open with no errors. 4. Select File > Send to production. No errors should be generated during this process. Sharing Depending on your business requirements, you may want to define the Dispatcher folder and all its subfolders as being shared so that other user profiles can use Dispatcher. Configuring the Dispatcher installation After all components are installed, refer to the Dispatcher Help for instructions on configuring and designing the system. Open the online help from Start > Programs > Dispatcher > Documentation menu EMC Corporation 29 Jul-07

34 Uninstalling the software Uninstalling the software Overview If you wish to upgrade Dispatcher (Dispatcher for InputAccel or Dispatcher for API Mode), you can simply install the software in the same installation folder as the previous version. You can then rename the installation folder. You will be able to use all old projects in the newer version. Make a backup copy of your production environment before upgrading your system. Saving project files and folders Before uninstalling Dispatcher software, make a backup copy of the production environments, including files that are related to all projects. Projects can be saved anywhere on the machine but if they have been saved within the Dispatcher tree structure they will be lost during the uninstall process. You should make copies of all files relating to projects (e.g., files in format.ddp,.dft and.bt) together with related folders (e.g., Cache, IdxClasses, Models, and Resources), which are created automatically when you create and save a project EMC Corporation 30 Jul-07
