1 THE BOLOGNA FREIGHT VILLAGE Moves the global logistics The company Interporto Bologna SpA has been managing since 1971 the Bologna Freight Village, one of the largest and most important intermodal platforms in Europe. The freight village is located in Northern Italy in a key position on the national road network, with a dedicated toll gate on the Bologna-Padova highway, and directly linked to the national rail network through the Bologna-Padova-Venezia main line. It is moreover located along 2 EU TEN-T corridors: Corridor 1 Baltic-Adriatic and Corridor 5 Helsinki-Valletta. The freight village covers a total fenced area of more than 4 million m 2, of which: 3.5 million m 2 represent the logistics area; m 2 represent the rail area. More than 100 companies (freight forwarders, road haulers, couriers, intermodal operators, rail companies, customs brokers and logistics operators), included the leading international operators (DHL, DB Schenker, Geodis, CEVA, Gefco, Sifte Berti among others), have chosen the Bologna freight village because of its high-quality and customized real estate offer, the security and additional services provided, the strategic position along the main national and European transport routes. The whole logistics area is included in Condominium Interporto, which is disciplined by an ad hoc regulation. Following the above mentioned regulation, the costs related to the common services comprehend: a) lighting, clearing, routine maintenance of the buildings of shared use; b) lighting, clearing, routine maintenance of roads, areas and external infrastructures of shared use; c) waste collection, pest control and rat extermination of the area of shared use; d) treatment of waste waters; e) cleaning and snow disposal of roads, yards and parking area of shared use; f) surveillance of the area of shared use; g) Interpass service: Bologna Freight Village is characterized by two access points equipped with the INTERPASS technology, which includes automatic video surveillance service 24/24h. Such technology also enables the Companies established in the area to authorize the exit of vehicles. Lastly, the area of the freight village is completely fenced and there is a video surveillance system through the use of 45 cameras.

3 THE LOGISTICS AREA The logistics real estate represents one of the company s core businesses: it both sells and rents custom-made warehouses or areas equipped for warehouse building. The company also offers a wide range of services to support the daily transport and logistics activities: - services to transport, such as refueling station, car wash service, rail shop for locomotives and railcars and the Custom Offices; - service to people, such as snack bar, self service restaurant, public showers and toilets, post office and vending machine for Hot Meals. 4 RESEARCH ACTIVITIES For over 10 years, the Company Interporto Bologna has decided to increase the presence of the logistics platform in international scenarios, focusing on research and development activities. These R&D activities, which are conducted by the homonymous department, have as their the main objective the promotion of the intermodal freight transport and the development of relations with international partners and institutions, in order to increase the collaboration on several fronts. The research of funding is done both at national and European level, as well as the consequent development and elaboration of projects of research and development, and they fit well in this perspective. The fact gives to Bologna Interporto the opportunity to extend its own skills to what happens at the European level, thus giving a greater community perspective to the work of the logistics platform. Also the coordination of the relations with the European Commission and several community partners participates to this purpose. These activities include as well the management of the financial resources made available as co financing as support for participation in European projects, with the related budget control and the report of the cost items. In detail, the department participated and participates to project within several funding programs such as the Marco Polo Program (AGORA and HINTERPORT), the 6th and 7th Framework Program (MEDIGATE, MENTORE, PROMIT, MOSES, METIS, CITYLOG, TIGER, CONTAIN, ICARGO, EMAR, ECOHUBS, LOGICON, VIWAS and SPIDER PLUS), the MED Program (FREIGHT4ALL), the CENTRAL EUROPE Program (Logical) and Industria 2015 (SLIMPORT). Anyway, the activities of the department are not limited to the participation to R&D projects. The support to the study of new commercial strategies is indeed equally important, as their aim is to encourage the management of the supply chain and the urban distribution, the process analysis of the activities of the rail terminal, in particular related to the management of financial resources and the organizational improvement. All these actions support and sustain the Company in its decision-making processes. The research department supports as well the analysis of the processes of the activities of railway operation and the management operations within the rail terminal, also identifying, for this purpose, ICT solutions for the intermodal activities. They were processed, for example, management systems of handling of containers within the terminal (T-YARD) and another parallel system to optimize the loading and unloading of trains (T-MOVE).

THE RAIL AREA The Bologna freight village is equipped with 3 rail terminals, property of the Italian rail infrastructure manager R.F.I., where the operators can have access to qualified rail services and to several national and international rail connections.
