What is this course about? 1.1 Course description Today competition takes place between supply chains, and no longer at the inter-firm level. Enabled through information technology, supply chain management addresses the integrative approach of managing all activities related to products/services from the point of origin to the point of consumption. You will study basic methods of analysis in planning, organising and controlling supply chain operations, to ensure that the right product/service, in the right quantity, in the right condition, is delivered to the right customer at the right place, at the right time, at the right cost. 1.2 Course content Supply chain strategies Supply chain network design principles Planning and managing inventories Principles of logistics and transportation management Procurement and sourcing decisions Information technology in a supply chain Supply chain performance Innovative supply chain business models Supply chain risk management and sustainability 2. Specific Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this course you should be able to: Describe and apply the different levels of supply chain activities. Utilise a systematic framework for analysing the behavior of supply chain networks and best practices in supply chain management. Appraise the latest trends, technologies, and business models related to supply chain management. Use Supply Chain design, processes, and thinking to improve the competitiveness of an organisation. Blackboard Group 40% 15 minutes Week 12 In class Individual 50% 2000 Words Week 13 SafeAssign 100% Assessment Task 1: Individual Assignment /SCM Proposal Goal: The purpose of this task is to assess students understanding of the supply chain concept Product: 2-3 page supply chain visualisation /diagram, approximately 400 words Format: This is an individual assessment. You are required to: review a given supply chain visualise the main components in a drawing/diagram describe the main components provide a short commentary Criteria Level of comprehensiveness and detail of the supply chain diagram Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Problem solving Assessment Task 2: Group Assignment: Supply Chain Management Presentation Goal: This task provides an opportunity to develop your supply chain management skills by researching, analysing and presenting in a group the results from a supply chain case analysis. Product: Supply chain management presentation. Format: In-class (or recorded) group presentation of 15 minutes duration. Further details available on the course Blackboard site. You can alternatively submit an electronic version (PowerPoint, or equivalent), a video or voice recorded version of your presentation. Criteria Application of relevant supply chain management concepts/frameworks and theories in completing the report Logical development of arguments in presenting your analysis Conclusions and recommendations Engagement with audience Use of relevant credible sources and appropriate referencing style Collaboration among group members (peer evaluation report) Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Collaboration Problem solving

4 Page 4 Assessment Task 3: Assignment: Individual Supply Chain Management Report Goal: This task provides an opportunity to develop your supply chain management skills by individually refining the analysis delivered as a group. Product: Supply chain management report Format: Individual report of 2000 words. Further details available on. Criteria Application of relevant supply chain management concepts/frameworks and theories in completing the report Logical development of arguments in presenting your analysis Conclusions and recommendations Error free writing with appropriate formatting Use of relevant credible sources and appropriate referencing style Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Problem solving 5.3 Additional assessment requirements Plagiarism In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks, when submitted to Blackboard, are electronically checked through SafeAssign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that SafeAssign has access to. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct 5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate: 5% (of the assessment task s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. 10% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the third day 20% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. Weekdays and weekends are included in the calculation of days late. To request an extension you must contact your course coordinator to negotiate an outcome. 6.
