UNPACKING When unpacking, check to make sure all the parts shown in the Parts Lists on pages 9 and 13 are included. 3 2. Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away from the Gantry Crane at all times. Distractions can cause you to lose control. PERSONAL SAFETY 3. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense during use. Do not use the Gantry Crane while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. 4. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts. 5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better control in unexpected situations. 6. Always wear eye, feet, and hand protection. Wear ANSI-approved safety impact goggles, non-skid safety shoes, and heavy duty work gloves when using this product. TOOL USE AND CARE 7. Store idle tools and equipment out of reach of children and other untrained people at all times. Tools and equipment are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. 8. Maintain the Gantry Crane with care. Keep this product clean. A properly maintained tool is easier to control. Do not use damaged tools and equipment. Tag damaged tools and equipment Do not use until repaired. 9. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, loose or broken parts, and any other condition that may affect the Gantry Crane s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools and equipment. 10. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one product may become hazardous when used on another product. SERVICE 11. Tool service must be performed only by qualified service technician. 4 12. When servicing the Gantry Crane, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Inspection, Maintenance, And Cleaning section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury. SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES 1. Maintain labels and nameplates on the Gantry Crane. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement. 2. Use the right product for the job. There are certain applications for which this product was designed. Do not use this product for a purpose for which it was not intended. 3. Industrial applications must follow OSHA requirements. 4. Store idle tools. When not in use, store the Gantry Crane in a clean, dry, safe location out of reach of children. 5. Prior to using this product, make sure to read and understand all instructions and safety precautions as outlined in the vehicle manufacturer s manual. 6. WARNING! Do not exceed the maximum lifting capacities of the Gantry Cranes. The maximum lifting capacities are as follows: A. Model Portable Gantry Crane: 1 Ton (2,200 Lb.) B. Model 94831Portable Gantry Crane: 660 Lb. 7. Always use the Gantry Crane on flat, level, solid, dry surface capable of supporting the weight of the Crane and any object that is lifted. 8. Before each use, check to make sure the Trolley Stoppers are firmly secured to both ends of the Girder. 9. Before each use, check to make sure all the Nuts on the Gantry Crane are firmly tightened and secured in place by Pins. 10. Do not lift people or animals with the Gantry Crane. 5 11. Do not lift loads over people or animals. 12. The Gantry Crane is designed for short term lifting of loads only. Do not leave loads suspended when the Crane is unattended. 13. Always chock the Wheels of the Gantry Crane when in use. Do not move the Crane when it is under a load. The Caster Wheels are not designed to be rolled when the Crane is lifting a heavy object. 14. This Gantry Crane is not designed to be used for aircraft purposes. 15. Always monitor the object being lifted so it does not rock back and forth. 16. Before each use, check to make sure the weight lifiting capability of the strap or chain (neither included) used with the Gantry Crane is rated sufficiently to safely lift the load. 17. When lifting a load, make sure the load is centered under the Girder. Be aware of dynamic loading! A sudden start or jerk may create for a brief instant, an excess load, which may result in damage to the product and/or personal injury. 18. Always use an appropriate hook (not included) with a safety mechanism to keep the load from slipping off the hook. Make sure to use an appropriate trolley or hoist capable of supporting the weight of the object being lifted. 19. WARNING! The warnings and cautions discussed in this manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 1. CAUTION! Always wear eye, feet, and hand protection. Wear ANSIapproved safety impact goggles, non-skid safety shoes, and heavy duty work gloves when assembling and using this product. 2. IMPORTANT: The methods of assembly for Model 94884/1 Ton Gantry Crane and Model 94831/660 Pound Gantry Crane are virtually identical. For additional reference to the parts described, refer to the Parts Lists and Assembly Diagrams for your specific model shown in the last pages of this manual. 3. NOTE: A minimum of two people will be required to assemble the Gantry Crane. 4. Lay out all of the parts on a workspace or clear area of the floor. Make sure you have a large, clean, dry, uncluttered area for the assembly. SKU For technical questions, please call PAGE 5
6 5. In the center of the assembly area, use same type of wooden base to form a temporary assembly table. (See Figure A.) 6. Place the Girder on the pallets with its Shoulders facing up. (See Figure A.) 7. Attach the four Pillars to the two outer Shoulders by adding a Castle Nut to the pre-installed Bolts. Then, lock the Castle Nuts in place by inserting the Roller Pins through the Castle Nuts and Bolts. (See Figure B.) SKU For technical questions, please call PAGE 6
7 8. Attach the four Hypotenuse Bars to the two inner Shoulders and four Pillars, using the Screw Bolts and Castle Nuts provided. Then, lock the Castle Nuts in place, using the Roller Pins provided. (See Figure B.) 9. Attach the two Bottom Bars to the four Pillars, using the Screw Bolts (4 x 5/8 for Model x 5/8 for Model 94831) and Castle Nuts provided. Then, lock the Castle Nuts in place, using the Roller Pins provided. (See Figure B.) OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. WARNING! Do not exceed the maximum lifting capacities of the Gantry Cranes. The maximum lifting capacities are as follows: A. Model Portable Gantry Crane: 1 Ton (2,200 Lb.) B. Model 94831Portable Gantry Crane: 660 Lb. 2. Before each use, check to make sure the weight lifiting capability of the chain or strap (neither included) used with the Gantry Crane is rated sufficiently to safely lift the load. 3. With assistance, carefully move the Gantry Crane over the object that is to be lifted. Then position the Trolley directly over the object. CAUTION! Make sure the Gantry Crane is positioned on a flat, level, hard dry ground surface that is capable of supporting the weight of the Cantry Crane and its maximum workload capacity. 4. Always chock the Wheels of the Gantry Crane when in use. Do not move the Crane when it is under a load. The Caster Wheels are not designed to be rolled when the Crane is lifting a heavy object. 5. Attach the lifting chain or strap (of a sufficient strength rating) (not included) securely to the Trolley of the Gantry Crane and to the object that is to be lifted. Then, slowly and carefully raise the object from the ground surface. 6. When finished, make sure to remove all tools, equipment, etc. from under the object that is suspended. Then, slowly and carefully lower the object to the ground surface. 7. Remove the lifting chain or strap from the Trolley of the Gantry Crane and the object that was lifted. 8. Make sure to store the Gantry Crane in a dry, clean, safe location out of reach of children and other unauthorized people. SKU For technical questions, please call PAGE 7
8 INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND CLEANING 1. Before each use, inspect the general condition of the Gantry Crane. Check for bent, cracked, worn or damaged parts, loose or missing parts, and any other condition that may affect the Crane s safe operation. If a problem occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. Do not use damaged equipment. 2. To clean, use a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use solvents or other flammable agents. 3. When storing, keep the Gantry Crane in a clean, dry, safe location out of reach of children. 4. CAUTION! All maintenance, service, and repairs not discussed in this manual should only be performed by a qualified service technician.
