3 TAKING CARGO CARE TO THE NEXT LEVEL In 2016, modern container shipping celebrates its 60 th anniversary. Now, with an immensely innovative project, Maersk Line is taking the container into the digital era and turning it into a smart, connected device through the installation of Remote Container Management (RCM). Maersk Line is poised to make it the gold standard of shipping cool commodities. We foresee it to be a game-changer within the industry of reefer shipping. Fully implemented in 250,000 Maersk Line reefer containers, RCM enables us to faster complete pre-trip inspections of the containers, remotely handle alarms, monitor temperature and humidity, and much more. All through real-time data at sea or in the terminal. This way, we can instantly react in case of a system failure. Or, for example, if a vessel is delayed, we will consult with our reefer customers and share our recommendation for the ideal environment for their cargo. These are just some of the attributes that provide our customers peace of mind. Through innovation, we have redefined the meaning of cargo care. 4 5

4 BEAR FRUIT WITH 30,000 NEW REEFERS During 2015, Maersk Line s fleet of reefer containers has seen 30,000 new reefers join the family. The containers are equipped with all the latest technological advances, and the investment manifests our commitment to improving our customers cargo care. We have listened to our customers and recognised the need to upgrade our reefer fleet. Our job is to enable our customers to deliver their promises in the exact condition they were intended to. The 30,000 new containers are all equipped with modern capabilities, such as: Cold Treatment used for the transport of grapes, citrus and other commodities where regulatory approval of the temperature treatment is required Ambient loading of commodities that normally require pre-cooling, which means cargo can move from packing house straight into the container Freezing down of commodities to the required temperature while in the container such as cheese and frozen tuna, enabling cost savings and an unbroken cool chain. All containers both those delivered in 2015 and the coming year are equipped with a very special invention that will enhance the way we, as well as the rest of the industry, take care of your perishable goods. 6 7
