2 The Port of Seattle The Port of Seattle plays a key role in bringing international trade and travel to the Pacific Northwest. The Port provides maritime and airport operations for the greater Seattle area. About one-third of Washington's economy is linked to the Port in some way. The ports of Seattle and Tacoma are working together in an innovative partnership called the Northwest Seaport Alliance, unifying the management of the two ports marine cargo terminals and related functions to continue our leading role in international trade. The Port of Seattle manages two cruise terminals that make Seattle the preferred choice for Alaska or Pacific Northwest cruises. About 960,000 visitors are expected by the end of this year s cruise season, with 203 ships calling on Seattle. The Port also manages Fishermen s Terminal, the headquarters of the North Pacific Fishing fleet, as well as three recreational marinas and the Maritime Industrial Center. The Airport The Port of Seattle operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), the 13th busiest U.S. airport, which served over 42.3 million passengers and handled more than 332,636 metric tons of air cargo in For the sixth straight year, Sea-Tac served a record number of passengers in 2015, the fastest growth among the top 20 U.S. airports. For year ending 2015, Sea-Tac had over 21 million enplanements and 381,000 operations. The planning role has become ever-increasingly critical to meeting the facility needs and passenger growth at Sea- Tac. The Port is developing a master plan to provide a 20 year blueprint for Sea-Tac Airport to sustainably accommodate future growth. The Sustainable Master Plan (SAMP) aims to meet the needs of the airport s customers by forecasting future demand and the projects required to meet that demand. Key Elements of the Sea-Tac Airport Master Plan: Future growth will be served within Sea-Tac s existing three runway configuration. Potential strategies include terminal expansion, airfield and cargo improvements, efficiency enhancements, environmental management and landside access. Sea-Tac will be the first U.S. large hub airport to fully incorporate sustainability into planning its facilities, operations and management. Sea-Tac has been a national leader with initiatives in the areas of climate protection, energy conservation, stormwater treatment, habitat, noise mitigation, recycling and waste management. p a g e 2

4 The Position The Senior Manager, Aviation Planning will provide leadership and oversight of the aviation planning group for comprehensive campus-wide airport planning including airfield, terminal, landside, land use and economic development planning. This position will also: Develop planning approaches and processes for use in helping to identify and test potential solutions to best meet Division needs, such as: quantitative analytical methodologies, physical planning, incorporation of stakeholder perspective, and strategic thinking. Provide technical subject matter expertise for fast and economical response in lieu of use of external consultants. Manage the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) process, including consulting services contract and work with the SAMP team, finalize analysis and documentation of the SAMP and transition to environmental review. Advance project definition to transition projects identified in the SAMP from planning to design. Manage staff, and provide leadership, coordination, direction and focus for significant Aviation Planning programs to keep the issues, projects or activities involved in harmony. Provide leadership and direction to interdisciplinary teams formed to accomplish projects within the programs. For a complete job description, click here. Position Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a combination of education, experience demonstrative knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to: Bachelor s degree in Planning, Aviation, Engineering, or related field and/or; Ten years of general experience in airport facility planning, development, management and policy. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a wide range of disciplines related to airport facility development, management and policy. Experience in many diversified aspects of airport planning across landside, terminal and airside. p a g e 4
