3 A History of Expertise in the Crane and Hoist Industry Rockwell Automation Drive Systems is no newcomer to the crane and hoist industry. Over the last 60 years, we ve been responsible for many of the industry s milestone achievements. Beginning in 1940, we became a major supplier of marine-rated cargo winches for the U.S. Navy. In the 1950s we introduced the step-less solid-state generator control for cargo winches. That s why Rockwell Automation Drive Systems Minimum Time/Motion, or MTM, anti-sway system, will mean more productivity for ports that employ it. The MTM anti-sway system using the patented Wagner/VIT technology communicates with the control processors over the backplane, and is optimized to work with Rockwell Automation drive and control components. The result is a significant improvement in container-handling cycle time that can also result in measurable improvements in port trade and ship time. The MTM system automatically determines the correct mathematical solution to the anti-sway problem in real time. Then it offers a nearly optimal, maximum-velocity/minimum-time solution that works smoothly even when trolley and hoist operations occur simultaneously and safely in all circumstances. And because the control algorithms are feed-forward only, expensive sway sensors aren t needed. Adding the anti-sway system to most existing installations is easy.
