8 THE ROLE OF COOPERATIVE ITS Vehicles are connected with the infrastructure Real time information exchange between vehicles and with the Traffic Operation Centres Vehicles play the role of data and event sensors (FCD Floating Car Data) Vehicles receive traffic information and warnings An additional component in the information chain, which contributes to road safety 28/05/2015 8
9 THE BENEFITS OF COOPERATIVE ITS Avoid vehicle collisions and multiple accidents Signal obstacles, stopped vehicles, traffic jams, road works, etc. Protect road operation staffs Anticipate before a hazard, slow down, adapt speed Change of itinerary, of transport mode -> objectives: safety, fluidity, mobility 28/05/2015 9

12 NEED FOR LIABILITY AND ROBUSTNESS Guaranty the proper delivery of all messages Guaranty the timely transmission of the messages Present useful information to the driver and at the right moment Do not distract nor disturb the driver -> redundancy of communication means -> an appropriate human machine interface Verify the coherence of the information transmitted over different medias 28/05/

15 TECHNICAL COMPATIBILITY Frequency issue between ITS-G5 and CEN DSRC tolling systems Need to guaranty the coexistence between different technical systems Avoid mutual jamming of systems (no interferences) -> Mitigation techniques have to be implemented and verified on real sites (according ETSI TS ) 28/05/
