1 DOC:STI/2404/4 SCHEME OF TESTING AND INSPECTION FOR CERTIFICATION OF MALT EXTRACT ACCORDING TO IS 2404 : LABORATORY -A laboratory shall be maintained which shall be suitable equipped and staffed, where the tests shall be carried out in accordance with the methods given in the specification. 2. TEST RECORDS - All records of tests shall be kept in suitable forms approved by the Bureau. 2.1 Copies of any records or charts that may be required by the Bureau shall be made available at any time on request QUALITY CONTROL - It is recommended that, as far as possible, statistical quality control (SQC) methods may be used for controlling the quality during production as envisaged in this Scheme (See IS 397 (Part 1) : 1972, IS 397 (Part II): 1985, IS 397 (Part III): 1980 and IS 397 (Part IV) : QUALITY SYSTEM As far as possible, quality systems as per IS 14003: 1988 shall be installed by the firm. 3. STANDARD MARK- The Standard mark as given in Columns (1) of the First Schedule of the licence shall be stencilled on each drum containing the malt extract. provided always that the malt extract in each drum to which the mark is applied conforms to every requirement of the specification. 4. MARKING - In addition, the following information shall be given on each drum: a) Name of the manufacturer or his recognized trade mark, if any: b) Name and type of material ; c) Source of manufacture d) Net mass of contents: e) Identification in code or otherwise to trace back the date, and lot of manufacture to factory records; f) Mae in India, if required; and g) Any other details required under the standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities Rules) PACKING - The material shall be packed in sealed, clean, sound and airtight containers made of galvanized iron, glass or any other suitable material.

LEVELS OF CONTROL - The tests, as indicated in Table 1 and at the levels of control specified therein, shall be carried out on the whole production covered by this Scheme and appropriate records and charts maintained in accordance with para 2 above. 5.1 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA FOR MARKING - On the basis of the test and analysis results, the decision regarding the conformity or otherwise of a control unit of malt extract to the requirements of the specification shall be made as follows: CONTROL UNIT - For the purpose of this Scheme the total quantity of malt extract prepared by digesting with water sound malted grains of cereals (such as barley, wheat & millets like cholam or ragi at a suitable temperature & the strained Water extract evaporated at a time shall constitute a control unit SAMPLING A composite sample shall be prepared by taking malt extract from four randomly selected drums of 50 kg. capacity from a control unit and tested for all the requirements as given in table 1. The control unit shall be marked only if it satisfied the given requirements of the specification Conforming criteria for control unit : The control units shall be declared to conform to the requirements of this specification if all the test results in satisfy the respective requirements. 6. HYGIENIC CONDITIONS The material shall be prepared filled and processed under hygienic conditions and the manufacturing premises shall be maintained in a thoroughly cleaned hygienic manner. All workers shall use clean, washed clothing, including head-covers, and properly sterilized suitable gloves. Incidental contamination of the product from soiled equipment or from personnel suffering from injuries, eruption or boils shall be avoided. 6.1 As far as possible, the firm shall follow sanitary conditions for food processing units as given in Is 2491: REJECTIONS - A separate records shall be maintained giving information relating to the rejection of control unit of malt extract which do not conform to the specification and the method of their disposal. Such material if packed in containers, shall not be stored together with that conforming to the specification. 8.0 SAMPLES - The licensee shall supply, free of charge, the samples required in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (Certification) Regulations as subsequently amended, from his factory or godowns. The Bureau shall pay for the samples taken by it from the open market.

3 DOC:STI/2404/4 9. REPLACEMENT - The licensee shall replace at his own cost certified products which are found not to conform to the Indian Standard. The final authority to Judge conformity of the product to the Indian Standard shall be with the Bureau. 10. STOP MARKING - The marking of the product shall be stopped under intimation to the Bureau, if, at any time, there is some difficulty in maintaining the conformity of the product to the specification, or the testing equipment goes out of order, or if directed to do so by the Bureau for any reason. The marking may be resumed as soon as the defect (s) are removed or when the Bureau gives the permission to do so. the information regarding resumption of marking shall also be sent to the Bureau. 11.PRODUCTION DATA - The licensee shall send to the Bureau, as per the enclosed proforma, a statement of quantity produced, marked and exported by him and the trade value thereof during the half-year ending 30 June and 31 st December. This statement is required to be for warded to the Bureau on or before the 31 st day of July and January for the preceding half-year.
